Hi Miranda! I also enjoy books about productivity and living intentionally. I have heard great things about Atomic Habits, I hope you enjoy it. I am reading Things That Matter by Joshua Becker right now . The sub-title is Overcoming Distraction to Pursue a More Meaningful Life. I appreciate that he is bringing to my attention things other than the obvious distractions in our lives such as social media, television and the internet. He discusses things like fear, past mistakes, happiness, money, possessions, applause and leisure as distractions. I am really enjoying it. Thanks for sharing your new books with us. Have a good weekend!

Hi Miranda, Green for Danger was made into a film in the 1940s with Alistair Sim as the inspector. I remember watching it many moons ago . The Wikipedia page says it was banned for a while as it could undermine confidence in hospitals!

As usual, I'm enticed by all of your selections--thank you! Two that top my list are Rooms of My Own, for all the reasons you shared, and The Real and the Romantic, as I love art history and learning about the interwar years. Atomic Habits has long been on my radar, too. From the shortlist, I've only read Great Circle. I enjoyed it so much that I've begun reading through her backlist, too. I'm eager to dip into the others, especially Erdrich's bookstore punished by a ghost. Wishing you and your mum a delightful weekend. 💐 📚

Rooms of Their Own very much appeals to me. I'd love to bake the Raspberry and Pistachio Frangipane, it sounds so delicious! The Whalebone Theatre sounds fascinating and I love Dorset too, know various parts of the county quite well. The Sentence also sounds as if it will be my cup of tea. Many other titles that I'm tempted by too.

Hi Miranda. Do you listen to Audiobooks? If so, which cost recommends do you have?
@Sherlika_Gregori2 жыл бұрын
The title French Windows reminded of a recent read I had to go to the British Library to read. It’s called Blind Windows by Edwina MacDonald . The author of Blind Windows sued Daphne du Maurier for plagiarism ( obvs, Rebecca), and I had to verify this. It was, as I expected, absolute nonsense. But it was a good read ( apart from the racism in it which I found very disturbing and uncomfortable).
@MirandaMills2 жыл бұрын
That's so interesting about the MacDonald book. I've never sat and read through a book in the British Library - that must be an interesting experience in itself!

Well it varies of course, but this week, for example, which was a busy one for me, I read three books and am working my way through a larger one as well. Time is always an issue though isn't it? Hope you can grab some to enjoy a book this weekend, Michelle!

Thank you, Miranda!🌷Two of the books you’ve mentioned are now on my wishlist: “How We Might Live” (I’m a huge William Morris and Arts & Crafts Movement fan) and Rooms of Their Own (those watercolours!). I’ve downloaded The Edinburgh Mystery on my kindle. Thanks to Martin Edwards I’ve discovered George Bellairs and Cyril Hare and very much enjoyed all their novels! As you know, Ruth Ozeki won the Women’s Prize. Her book is next on my TBR (I was very much impressed by A Tale for the Time Being). I’ve read The Sentence and The Island of Missing Trees, enjoyed both, and actually hoped Elif Shafak would win…😊📚
