@TamarLitvot9 ай бұрын
Yes! Art should be personal and meaningful, not just match in style and color. That's my one gripe with all the DIY/Home Decor people I follow (Alexandra is one of my two favorites). They put art on the walls of other people's homes that is not meaningful to the person. I understand why they do it (they need to do a complete job), but I wish they would talk to their client and ask them to collect art themselves that can be used in the space.
@staceyschmidt31499 ай бұрын
@@TamarLitvotI agree. I have started to imagine that all these recipients of the makeovers start to switch out the generic art for their own style one piece at a time as soon as they find something that speaks to them in their price range. On the other hand, I would _never_ allow someone to come into my house and start removing and changing what I've done and what speaks to me, because it's my style and I gather what I like together, and I think it has cohesion and makes me happy and works great together because of all that. It's nobody's style but my own. And I am independent and don't need anyone else telling me that it works together and oohing and ahhing over it to make me feel good about it. I trust my judgement. And I'm guessing a lot of people that watch shows like these feel the same way. But then there are those who like a certain "feel" in their houses but have no sense of how to create it and pull the whole thing together. Those are primarily the people that I imagine are signing up for these makeovers, and maybe they don't care one iota whether the art is meaningful to them or not.

It's a very pretty room -- love the wallpaper and the bed and especially the chest of drawers -- perfection! The overhead light is gorgeous. Once you changed the shade on the taller lamp, those two different lamps are a good touch. My only gripe is the bedside tables. They're very nice but a vintage set would have worked better and also, they don't provide the kind of organized space that Niamh made clear is important to her. But that's so much less important than how lovely the room is in general.

Pelmets traditionally seal the gaps around the top of the curtain rail, saving on heating and cooling. I am always surprised by the flimsy curtains and rails in the cool climate you live in. Here in my semi tropics we have dispensed with pelmets by running a track on the ceiling and the fittings on the curtains face upwards with a disguising pleating. We have two tracks per window one curtain is a fine linen for light but heat protection and the next is more heavily lined to block the light and keep the cool inside. Glad to see a pelmet. Of all the rooms you’ve done, this one would have been PERFECT for thrifted things and I think the second hand piece would have added to the cozy nature, pieces that have history and stories. Home Sense has great pieces and I understand the need for it, when you’re looking for specific things, but the knick knacks and styling pieces especially I would love to see more thrifting. The adventure of the hunt and the treasures you can find, plus giving things a new life. Like, the thrifted mirror at the end was one of my favorite pieces of the whole room.

Fabulous! If anything, maybe attach the marble to the radiator or wall somehow? Marble can crack if it is bumped off. You could use l-brackets upside down to hold the marble in place without drilling in it. Or maybe use classy metal ties? They come in brass, silver and gold looks and literally are cut to the length you need at the hardware store. You can make cute bowes in the front of the marble or on top, or hide the twist/bows underneath - Heat won’t bother them.

I would never want to leave this bedroom. It is just perfect in every way!

I have a pelmet in my bedroom from a CARDBOARD KIT my mom got in the 90s, folded and covered by fabric from the headboard we made ourselves 12 years ago. Not having light leakage out the top of the curtains? AWESOME.

That wallpaper is gorgeous. Wish I could do my walls, but the government won't let me. It was fun to see Graham's first visit to Home Sense. You guys are fun to watch, makes an older lady feel so young and vibrant. Love your book.

@@annie-pierlagueux7479government offers senior citizens and low income families apartments at a VERY reduced price, but cannot change/paint, hang pictures or change flooring, other than a throw rug. Very sterile. Suppose to help on cost when people move out.

Even the peel and stick? You have to test a little spot for damage first.

Alexandra used painter's tape all over the wall, then used peel 'n stick wallpaper. There are ways. Google to get ideas - good luck!

While the OP doesn’t specify the exact situation they are in that prevents wallpaper, a trick I’ve used in situations where I cannot paint or wallpaper is to use foam core. Foam core can be attached to the wall with Command Strips. You can paint, wallpaper, and glue fabric to the foam core. It’s great for dorm rooms which often come with rules preventing any alteration of the walls.

I loved how much of the inspiration meeting with Niamh we got to see in this one! She really clearly had an inspiration and I like how the coastal was done without being cliché! Beautiful job all around Team AG!

Graham finding pieces to gift everyone in HomeSense is so me 😂 P.S. Love how Niamh can now grab ✨AeSTheTiC✨bedside tables in an emergency Edit: It's only been 42 minutes guys. 10 likes is more than I've ever had 🥳

in the inspo pic i loved the rounded shelf above the radiator detail and is something i could so see in the clients space, she clearly picked these inspo picks w serious intention and vision. The artist in her dad lives through her !

BEST MAKEOVER EVER. Reminds me of my childhood bedroom, but more eclectic. Please come do this to my house.

I think it would be so cool if team AG & Mr. Kate did a collaboration. Mr. Kate has so many amazing wallpapers in their collection & also awesome furniture. It would be fun to see what Alexandra would choose & how she’d decorate with it! This was a beautiful makeover! I absolutely love the wallpaper!

I love how this isn't the style I go for, but the makeover is wonderful!

Tears! Every. Single. Time!! Very nice! Love the mirror - gorgeous!! Her dad's art - sweet! Still getting used to the 2 different lamps; it doesn't work with OCD!!! Graham - needs more trips to HomeSense! Probably a good distraction from all the detailing work he does - need a break once-in-a-while. Have a blessed day!! xxoo

Hello! I love all of your make-overs, and your team and the way you all get along! But, I just want to point out that your reveals are the best!!!! The camera work, and the amount of time spent actually showing details and whole room shots is so appreciated!! Some shows gloss over the final results so that you don't really see much. To me it shows that you all love what you do and are proud to show it off!!!

This might be my absolute favorite makeover you've ever done. The gallery wall with the headboard, wallpaper, art, and lamps is just - *chef's kiss*
