Yes! Art should be personal and meaningful, not just match in style and color. That's my one gripe with all the DIY/Home Decor people I follow (Alexandra is one of my two favorites). They put art on the walls of other people's homes that is not meaningful to the person. I understand why they do it (they need to do a complete job), but I wish they would talk to their client and ask them to collect art themselves that can be used in the space.
@staceyschmidt31498 ай бұрын
@@TamarLitvotI agree. I have started to imagine that all these recipients of the makeovers start to switch out the generic art for their own style one piece at a time as soon as they find something that speaks to them in their price range. On the other hand, I would _never_ allow someone to come into my house and start removing and changing what I've done and what speaks to me, because it's my style and I gather what I like together, and I think it has cohesion and makes me happy and works great together because of all that. It's nobody's style but my own. And I am independent and don't need anyone else telling me that it works together and oohing and ahhing over it to make me feel good about it. I trust my judgement. And I'm guessing a lot of people that watch shows like these feel the same way. But then there are those who like a certain "feel" in their houses but have no sense of how to create it and pull the whole thing together. Those are primarily the people that I imagine are signing up for these makeovers, and maybe they don't care one iota whether the art is meaningful to them or not.

It's a very pretty room -- love the wallpaper and the bed and especially the chest of drawers -- perfection! The overhead light is gorgeous. Once you changed the shade on the taller lamp, those two different lamps are a good touch. My only gripe is the bedside tables. They're very nice but a vintage set would have worked better and also, they don't provide the kind of organized space that Niamh made clear is important to her. But that's so much less important than how lovely the room is in general.

This makeover is magical and I’m obsessed with how it turned out, but I would love to see y’all thrift more. Of all the rooms you’ve done, this one would have been PERFECT for thrifted things and I think the second hand piece would have added to the cozy nature, pieces that have history and stories. Home Sense has great pieces and I understand the need for it, when you’re looking for specific things, but the knick knacks and styling pieces especially I would love to see more thrifting. The adventure of the hunt and the treasures you can find, plus giving things a new life. Like, the thrifted mirror at the end was one of my favorite pieces of the whole room.

Pelmets traditionally seal the gaps around the top of the curtain rail, saving on heating and cooling. I am always surprised by the flimsy curtains and rails in the cool climate you live in. Here in my semi tropics we have dispensed with pelmets by running a track on the ceiling and the fittings on the curtains face upwards with a disguising pleating. We have two tracks per window one curtain is a fine linen for light but heat protection and the next is more heavily lined to block the light and keep the cool inside. Glad to see a pelmet. Love a great fan !!

Niamh said she liked wallpaper. Possibly everywhere. She got two-tone walls that will look dated by April. The proportions of the lovely pelmet are wrong. It should be wider. The curtains are too short. They look squashed. The Rug, again, lovely choice is the wrong size. The gallery wall should be on the other side. The light fixture above the bed is not conductive to relaxed sleep and, again, somehow disproportionate to the room. The dresser is the wrong shade. The handles on the folding doors look jarring because the style of the door clashes with them. There’s too much wicker. The side tables have the wrong height and use up too much space without any real storage value. The lamps: should be nearer in height and the green is all wrong. Not because it’s not the same green but because, like the dresser, it’s in another color family, temperature wise. There’s so much lovely choices and some seriously bad decisions. The room will look untidy when not styled.
@lynnburlingham81603 ай бұрын
Agree, definitely wider and longer curtain arrangement that frame the windows and radiator. Cover the radiator flish with the window sill for a deeper window shelf. Love the wallpaper and accent pieces, but hate the mismatched side table lamps. Doesn't say "eclectic ". Instead, it just looks "thrift store poor" rather than thoughtfully curated.
@centralWisconsin18 ай бұрын
Personal preference, blue walls, -yuck. I would have gone with a soft green color, similar to what’s in the wallpaper. I know, it’s just me. I just hate blue walls. Marble top over register, great idea Alexandra! Regarding 4-panel sliding door. I would have considered treating 2-panels as one, and picture framed 2-left doors as one piece, and 2-right doors as one piece. Each of the 2 pictured frame sections would then be tall vertical rectangles, but it might work, else just do center 2-panels together. In this case, one could consider painting the left & right outer edge panels same color as the wall paint color. Also, in either case, picture framing trim would need to be painted same color as closet panel doors, as I believe using the outer closet pink trim would be too much.

Great makeover!!!❤️❤️ I want to do this style also and I'm searching for inspo and you uploaded this, thanks 😍😍 the only thing I would do is to wallpaper all the walls and wallpaper the closet door to look like wood or something because they seem too modern compared to the rest of the space 😊 all in all great makeover, cant wait to see more!!❤❤❤

That wallpaper is gorgeous. Wish I could do my walls, but the government won't let me. It was fun to see Graham's first visit to Home Sense. You guys are fun to watch, makes an older lady feel so young and vibrant. Love your book.

@@annie-pierlagueux7479government offers senior citizens and low income families apartments at a VERY reduced price, but cannot change/paint, hang pictures or change flooring, other than a throw rug. Very sterile. Suppose to help on cost when people move out.

Even the peel and stick? You have to test a little spot for damage first.

Alexandra used painter's tape all over the wall, then used peel 'n stick wallpaper. There are ways. Google to get ideas - good luck!

While the OP doesn’t specify the exact situation they are in that prevents wallpaper, a trick I’ve used in situations where I cannot paint or wallpaper is to use foam core. Foam core can be attached to the wall with Command Strips. You can paint, wallpaper, and glue fabric to the foam core. It’s great for dorm rooms which often come with rules preventing any alteration of the walls.

Tears! Every. Single. Time!! Very nice! Love the mirror - gorgeous!! Her dad's art - sweet! Still getting used to the 2 different lamps; it doesn't work with OCD!!! Graham - needs more trips to HomeSense! Probably a good distraction from all the detailing work he does - need a break once-in-a-while. Have a blessed day!! xxoo

Not my style, but you did it so well I'm converted. I love William Morris, so the wallpaper was a total win. And Graham is so talented and quirky, I just love him to bits ❣

Used to have a giant pelmet across my entire living room window in the same sad fabric as the vetical blinds. Took it down before we even moved in 😂 but now I'm kind of wishing I'd thought to just re-cover it in a fun fabric! #pelmetclub

Something about this makeover is so satisfying, like getting a soothing sweet tea time! While the picture wall was appropriate I personally wound have picked lighter colors except for the tree painting, which I loved! The wallpaper was Devine!

She’s like me, I love pink, but I’m very very drawn to light blues too. Most of my homes is in shades of blue because I feel pink just isn’t for the masses.
