You should staple a layer or two of that heavy gauge foil you used on the wall to the underside of your firepit lid. Protects the wood from charring and reflects the heat back down on whatever you are cooking.

Over the years, in my tiny cabin in the woods (not remote, but certainly quiet), the mice ate / gnawed the contents of my kitchen cupboard (including the tea-candles), a blanket, sheets, a pillow, the cover of my couch, my electric blanket, and the Christmas lights. The mess was sometimes overwhelming, and whilst I could deal with the droppings, it’s the pee that is most disgusting.

Before you leave spread dryer sheets and moth balls around cabin. Mice hate both!

I suggest that you keep everything in metallic containers. The ones for the cookies are perfect since they close very tight.

The grass did very well on this roof. Like how you can stand right outside the door and cook in the pit. I’d say you need a shutter on the window yet. And a roof over the firewood before the snow starts. Nice to see looking so cute and tidy. Make it warm and cozy.🌹🌿

For covering the window, instead of a kitchen towel you might be better served by a quilted or insulating fabric to help keep in the warmth on winter nights, and keep out the heat during summer.

Always so good to see a video from you. Seems like you are always working when at the dugout, the jobs never end do they? Shame some mice got in and made a mess for you, don’t they realize you put stuff around the inside to repel them, they are just disrespectful! 😅 You are always such an excellent cook, making great food. That’s an added treat to your videos. Take care, be safe, stay well.

Great video! I noticed that you are using aluminum foil for cooking a lot, which is actually not very healthy. Aluminum is a neurotoxic metal, that has been linked to health issues, such as Alzheimer's disease. Wrapping something in aluminum foil might not be the biggest problem, but cooking with it is, as well as putting acidic stuff in it, such as citrus and tomatoes. Maybe put parchment paper between the food and the aluminum foil? Stay safe

My first instinct was to say. Put down some mouse glue traps. But then I thought "We are in there world". I guess maybe get some plastic bins with a tight fitting lid for storage of goods when your away? That foil will probably be a nice reflector of heat off the stove! The Outdoor rocket stove was a great idea.

I was planning to make this suggestion because I see others also cleanup dugouts and even abandoned cabins with only gloves. Mice poo and urine can make people sick, even when it's dry or old. Sweeping should be done carefully so very little flies into the air where it is breathed into the lungs.
