i think being comfortable talking about money and sharing part of your financial journey (within reason) comes with maturity. i was the same way in my 20s, and it has changed so much in my 30s. especially as a black woman, i’ve learned the importance of transparency within my circle. keeping it hush-hush and taboo can really hold us back and limit our earning potential. thanks for sharing!❤

owning a house a really fun in many ways. I think the things I would tell people is that 1. Really make sure that you have funds after buying the house. I honestly bought at the top of my budget, and I think ultimately I stand by the house I bought/etc, but at the same time, I'm house-poor now lol. 2. Plan on home maintenance being a hobby/ part time job. I don't have a fixer upper but wanting to just maintain etc does take more time for me than when I rented (maybe I was a negligent renter?!). I think you will love it -- it's really special to build out a space and customize it to your liking!

Your suburb vs city comparison really resonates with me right now. I happily lived in Chicago for 15 years and then moved to NYC recently- and BOY does NYC make me want the calm of the suburb life more than ever!! The chaos of this city is unbearable at times and I find myself staying inside my small apt a lot more than I ideally want to.

I just bought my first house this year as well, and boy do i understand the waking up at 4am every day to overthink every single thing even tangentially related to buying a house, haha. Make sure you give yourself time to rest and recover during the renovation and move in process, especially if you're doing the work yourself. It's an indescribably incredible feeling once you're fully moved in, enjoy every minute of it!

Also I can confirm you will be so glad to have painted / done flooring before moving - it makes SUCH a difference in making it feel yours right away. Omg Ken why are we living the same life… not really BUT me and my husband Ryan are buying a house too and We close at the end of December!!! I have never been more stressed but excited and proud in my whole life. In a month I’ve turned into an interior designer, lawyer, contractor and mental patient! Same here!! Our last house was the one (in 2012). We bought very low (& well below our means) and put some elbow grease. Since then, the house has 4x'ed in equity and helped us get out of student loans and ALL commercial debt. We refied at 2.75% for 15 years and it will be ours in less than 8 years. So, depending on your goals, home ownership does still work.

Had a very similar experience buying my first home last year. Also worked two jobs for a while and saved up. It’s in my name but my husband does help pay the mortgage. I totally had the imposter syndrome but once I found the right house it all fell into place. I’ve had no buyers remorse and it’s completely changed my life for the better. You will love it 💕

New homeowner here! We purchased our second home earlier this year in late March and it was a big experience vs the first time. Im 27, husband 25 and we have no kids but 4 pets. Its a lot and we arent loaded but we are able to make bills, save and have little hobbies like games and crafts. When we got out first house in TX (where we are from originally) we knew right away that it was a stepping stone but it was a GOOD stone. We were 19 and 21 I think. It was 145k and the mortgage was high and when we refinanced we ended up deciding we wanted to move in 2022 to NH. We sold to some family who were growing their own family and we left. We rented while we looked for 2.5 years in NH for a house and we just got this 1948 cape style house for 450k. Cost of living is insane but we are making things work. People say “you’re too young” or “that house is old are you sure” but you will KNOW when it is right to grow and move on. Even when it seems new and scary. No regrets here and now he and I both have our own hobby rooms 😊

Hey Kennedy. I love watching you do stuff like this because, to me you are probably one of the most down to earth, sensible KZbinrs out there! And I mean that as a compliment. A lot of KZbinrs are quite young, haven't really lived any life experience yet and end up earning lots of money on their social media and just go a bit crazy. That stuff can be fun to watch, but it can feel a bit like - watching a completely different breed of human doing stuff that anyone a generation or so would just never do. Watching you reminds me that there are sensible people out there, who do fun jobs and create wonderful spaces for others, while also benefitting from their hard work and staying down to earth. I sometimes watch your videos and thing 'Oh yeah okay, she's still quite young and that might change, but it's nice to watch people enjoying themselves!', and I don't mean that to sound as patronising as it does, it's just sometimes I can definitely see the sort of younger mindset being very different (or maybe just generational...who knows). I'm not actually that much older than you, but I do feel like a lot of people go through a massive journey when they hit 30 and you come out the other side different. And I think in a really lovely way you have the sensible thinking of someone who has had that slightly longer life experience, but also the really lovely hopefulness and joy in life that younger people tend to. All that to say - I think you're awesome, and lovely, and down to earth. And I really hope that you keep those core traits because they make you such a wonderful person to watch and follow along with. Enjoy your new house, I can't wait to see how you make it yours, and just sending you lots of love and gratitude.

46:57 yay house!!! I bought a house last year-my partner and I were looking for a new place to rent and just sorta stumbled into a deal. It was literally the first one we toured and it was under contract but the original people dropped out of it!!! the process after the offer was so stressful but it’s been so worth it. I’m also someone who never thought they would be able to buy a house, but it was a great lesson in trusting the process and flexibility.
