Railfanning with Tony V

In this video we follow trains past Beavermouth and Fraine and through what was known as the Rogers Pusher station. Rogers pusher station was where trains added power to them so they could make the steep 10 mile 2.5% grade up Rogers pass but with todays heavy trains this became too difficult and CP rail built a second less steep grade so that trains going west could climb with a bit more ease. This 1% grade was much more manageable
For more information check out this video about "Rogers pass, Tunnels making the grade" • Rogers Pass, Tunnels m...
Please if you like these series I would love to do more but the cost of gas to travel is getting to be quite high so any support you can give would be greatly appreciated!
By clicking the "Thanks" button under the video window you can donate to the cost.
Once again THNKY YOU for your continued support

A question re flying towards National Parks. Will the drone sense a National Park boundary or does the operator have to use good judgement when flying near these parks?

Bring back memories Tony, I have sat at Rogers plenty of times waiting for the pushers to be cut in to our trains, both from working as a brake person on the lead locomotive and also as a conductor in the caboose. and I was on one of the first trains going up the new Macdonald track. It is a beautiful area with plenty of bears. some trip on the new stretch between Rogers and Bear Creek we could see up to 30 bears most black and some Grizzlies. Great camera work at both Beavermouth and Fraine along with outstanding drone work. very smooth. well done Also one note is that the pushers were not always cut in to a train but also what was known as a nose job where on lighter trains the pushers would be on the head end also.

I have to agree with another of your commenters, your aerial videos do justice to the areas the trains travel through. Now another question, do they shut down the DPUs when they are not needed, or are left idling?
@TonyVRailfanning
@TonyVRailfanning Жыл бұрын
Thank you, so that’s a tricky question as it depends on how many DPUs and where the trains are travelling. In Canada no more than 2 units (if there are more) on the Head end of a train will ever be on line so if a train has 5 units on the HE only 2 will be running the others will be completely shut down. Mid or tail units will idol when in motion and come on line if required but if a train stops they will shut down completely after 5 min and restart when the train has to leave

Question: At Fraine with the Westbound train waiting for the meet, I'm wondering why it needed to wait. From my view of your video, it appears to be double-track between the wait/meet location and the place where the "new" MacDonald track diverges. But I'm assuming that the tracks weren't far enough apart to allow for safe passage of both trains?
@TonyVRailfanning
@TonyVRailfanning 2 жыл бұрын
You’re correct there’s plenty of room for both trains to pass however there was a broken rail inside the McDonald Tunnel that they had to wait to get repaired
