Since the weather has been getting warmer, I have sometimes been pulling my CPAP off while asleep (apparently pretty early in the night). I think that the heated humidifier/tubing made me too hot in combination with the weather. Sleeping without my CPAP for one or two nights makes me feel like absolute trash. I could not imagine going two weeks without it these days. Also, I looooooove Mask Bright, it is my new favorite thing. I'm an RT with lots of hospital experience and have learned so much from you since starting in the DME world a few months ago. Thank you!!!

I never EVER go a night without cpap! Neither does hubs except when he has to get up with the dogs in the middle of the night and ends up staying downstairs with the dogs poor guy. Slept on an overseas flight with no cpap if that counts (which increased the crappy jetlag I endured). In that vein, I do hope that all commercial pilots who need cpap therapy are using it without fail! Thx for your awesome videos, Lanky!

I'm due for another sleep study this year but I can't sleep with out my CPAP. The very first time I used CPAP was incredible. I didn't know sleep could be so restful. I'm just gonna find me a slightly used machine and save money not having a sleep study done. With oscar I tuned my settings to where I feel really good. I really can't wait for A.I. to take over sleep studies instead of a doctor just prescribing a general setting range.

Companies (like Jason's sponsor) will write a scrip for you for a fee and consultation. Your doctor's a prick for making you go through another torture session when we both know your diagnosis already. See if you can talk them out of it and just get a titration where they start you on CPAP and find your good pressure. If they make you do the full study then demand an Ambien pill... I've got an Ambien waiting for my titration session next week.

Went on a trip last fall and when I unpacked, realized I forgot the humidifier tank (Airsense 10). It was just two nights, but it was horrible. Constantly snored myself awake, throat was raw, was cognizant of how often I was waking up. Won't happen again. Lessons last longest when learned hardest. As for when I first started CPAP, one BIG thing I immediately noticed was that I was aware I was dreaming again and in the mornings, I was groggy as if I was sleeping deep when the alarm went off. Before CPAP, I could not remember the last time I dreamed and getting out of bed was not hard because I had only been half-asleep or was already halfway to being awake.

Hello Lankey, I enjoy your content.. My experience with this scenario is the following: A middle aged person with private insurance gets dx with mild OSA and accepts hypopneas scored at a 3% desaturation. Several years later they are retired and are now on medicare which requires hypopneas to be scored at a 4% desaturation. Medicare will now require this patient to undergo a re-evaluation. The idea to have them stop using CPAP for atleast 3 nights prior to their sleep study is to allow the effect of snoring to cuase inflamation and likely get them qualified at a 4% desaturation. However, there is a loop hole, if the sleep physician dictates on the original interpretation the AI (Apnea index) which does not have a desaturation criteria and it is >5, they might be able avoid having another sleep study.

I had 5 hours since starting cpap almost 3 years ago. The power went out. I was bummed but needed some sleep, even if it was bad sleep. My husband said I didn’t snore a bit. He said I breathed steadily and rhythmically through my nose the whole time. I asked my doc about that. Like, have I trained myself to breathe correctly in my sleep? He said naw fam. If you did it the next night, it would’ve been a bit worse, until like 5 nights in and I would be miserable again and snoring. After those 5 hours, I felt like crap, even though I seemed to breathe fine. There’s something to that. Every now and then I wake up to find that I never put my mask back on after I woke up an hour before to let the dog out. I feel like crap after an hour. So, I put it back on and go for 30 min to an hour more of sleep and I feel much better.

I’ve skipped using the mask a number of times for varying lengths of time. Where it was 1 to 3 nights no CPAP was definitely tired, headaches etc. Where I went without for a few months (due to frustration over mask leaks) it was like trading one “evil” for another. Everything you described but no dry mouth. Also made me extra emotional/short fused (sorry fam!)

Aah Joshann - What happens with the Tesla if the grid goes down and you need to take a trip? As someone who has been on Cpap (bi-pap) for 6 + years, I only had one night back in August of last year that I did not use it. I was in a hotel and could not get the plug to work in the receptacle next to the bed so my Resmed Aircurve 10 could not be used. I was awake all night. That afternoon I had Hotel Mtnc up to the room to fix it, and right away I took a nap. So NO - can not sleep without it.

June 2021 to February 2022 without a cpap was WAY long enough for me to know I don't ever want to have to go without it again. That's the time from the day my doctor told me to stop using the %&@!# Dreamstation until the day I took delivery of the AirMini that I was finally able to find and buy by myself. Nine months of hell. Short spells of nights with no electric power, bouts of nausea where quick bucket access was paramount, and things of that nature are the only exceptions to my 100% compliance nowadays. How you stood two whole fricking weeks is beyond me. I love me some good data but dude... don't think that I would be able to sacrifice that much for science. Too outright dangerous.

I tried to go without my ASV last night because I'm so frustrated, but only made it to 1am - painfully dry throat, waking up constantly and catching myself not breathing. My problem is I feel horrible whether I use it or not. I do have some pretty good days but I've developed dizziness/vertigo and extreme exhaustion and inability to focus/stay present. Met with my sleep doctor (MD) and he kept mentioning Orthosomnia. Never heard that term before so I wrote it down. I'm actually angry now that I've looked it up. Wtaf? I'm getting a lot closer to meeting with grandpa lefty. I feel it's just a pressure adjustment problem, but I have no way to find the right setting, so I'm at the mercy of these sleep techs who seem to be just guessing and making me wait a week or more to see. Meanwhile, I have to live those days one at a time and it's no fun at all.
@cebruthius
@cebruthius 6 ай бұрын
ASV can be quite tricky to get right. Lots of settings, that have to be tailored to the individual. Orthosomnia is just a word doctors use to insinuate that you are "unreasonably obsessed" about your sleep quality. It's a huge red flag that you are being targeted by Medical Gaslighting.
@moidfpv
@moidfpv 6 ай бұрын
@@cebruthius Thanks for the reply. I thought that was a red flag. I had a lot of questions since I've been using CPAP then ASV for a year and have never met the MD that works at the Sleep clinic here. I thought that was the right approach since I had a lot of questions. But as I did he started dropping the Orthosomnia term. He then started asking me if he should change the pressure settings! Like what?? I was confused so I just said, look, you're the doctor I have to defer to you for stuff like that. In any case, he did change one of the settings and it was a little rocky at the start but I'm feeling better now. The vertigo has reduced quite a bit for example. I still don't feel what I would call great, but not being super dizzy all the time is an improvement. Thanks again, have a great day.

@moidfpv
@moidfpv 6 ай бұрын
@@cebruthius Yes I have a ResMed 10 ASV. In the flow limit chart I see a lot of spikes on both good and bad nights. Are you on SleepHQ? It's easy to share data with people there so I could show you my data if you want to see it. I'm ranging from as low as AHI=3 to 20 (last night was 17.5 and two nights ago it was 3.47). I'm all over the place with no consistency. Every day is a roll of the dice on how dizzy I'll be not to mention how overly exhausted and/or how much trouble focusing or staying present I'll have.

I had brain surgery on Feb 1st. I had to go without my CPAP for 2 weeks after the surgery. I felt horrible, but thought it was because of the surgery (still recovering!). However, a couple of days after resuming my CPAP it seemed like I turned a corner on recovery, mainly in how sleepy I was and how dry my mouth was. I've been using my CPAP since the 2 weeks were up, but my AHI's have increased. Do you have any idea or experience on why this would happen? I had a craniotomy for an aneurysm clipping. Thank you!

Yeah... *that* ain't happenin'... my diagnosis AHI >100, no thanks. I tried going in for a sleep study recently (14 years on CPAP by now), it was torture in the extreme... and they wouldn't have mercy on me... my doctor made a *big* mistake sending me in without Ambien... I though I'd tough it out with three Benadryl... didn't touch it. Six hours of torture later I escaped... they said later they'd got enough data to give me a diagnosis... the doctor told me insurance would want a study every so often... I talked to *both* my insurance and Medicare and both said no, that's between you and your doctor. I think he owns part of that clinic, srsly. Anyway, I can rant for hours on this... if you find yourself without your machine in a situation, find a straight-back chair and sleep in it... prop your head up, you might get an hour or two, it will wreck your neck. Anyway I've got a titration session coming Tuesday, single and bi-level, got an Ambien waiting at the drugstore... at a different damn clinic for sure. And that '>100' diagnosis AHI? Pretty sure the tech had mercy on me and fudged the number, that first taste of sweet sweet pressure I'll never forget. REM rebound, anyone?
