I started in June last year. It was a very rocky start but now I get a 100 score on the MyAir app most of the time. I still have problems with managing too dry / too wet, but I recently started adjusting my humidity level, 1up or 1down, every night, depending on the humidity level in my room. I don't have central air or airtight windows, so I'm at the mercy of the Hawaiian weather.

Been on CPAP for nine and a half years. Only missed 5 nights during that time. (Normally when at a dinner party, had a few drinks and decided to stay the night ... lol ) Started with Resmed S9, now using the Air Mini. Right from the start I've used the Airfit P10 nasal pillows. It's a piece of cake and about as unobtrusive as you can get. I put off getting tested for years because I couldn't stand the thought of wearing a mask to bed but when the doctor said "you're going to go to bed one night and not wake up .... EVER" I kind of knew I HAD to do it. And the nasal pillow mask is so easy to wear. The whole experience changed my life from Night One and due to the possible dire outcome if I didn't use CPAP, I went into it with two major thoughts .... #1. I HAVE to do it .... and #2 ... I'm going to have a POSITIVE ATTITUDE and make it work, no matter what. I think this is MOST important. Have a positive attitude to make it work. If you have problems with a full face mask, try a nasal pillow mask. Here in Australia we can rent them so it's possible to try one out. Can't speak for your part of the world but worth investigating.
@beerich21174 ай бұрын
In the US, we have a 30 day trial of any mask we buy. If it doesnt work out, we can return and try another, and another, and another. 😉 I started with nasal pillows. I am getting ready to try the Philips Resperonics under the nose nasal mask. It has a less stretchy strap than the P 10 air pillows. That mask ends up off my head half of the time. The doc tells me to sleep on my side. It only stays in place if I sleep on my back. But, I stop breathing more on my back. Sigh!! We will figure it out. 🤔

I mouth-breathe a lot during sleep. How will this new mask work with mouth-breathers? Also, I am a fetal side-sleeper. One of my nostrils is usually a bit stopped up. If I flip over on my other side, the opposite nostril opens up and the other clogs. Will this inhibit the vortices?
@sueworsell41224 ай бұрын
Just the same here .. Apart from mouth tape I can't see it working.
@elzie11004 ай бұрын
@@sueworsell4122 I hope we get a response because I would love to have even less face coverage. I already use the Evora under-the-nose mask that does cover my mouth. I moved away from the full face mask mostly because the seal would get so bad after a couple of weeks of me squashing it around due to my sleep position. The air from the bad seal around my nose just blasted into my eyes during the night so that they were painfully dry every time I woke up in the mornings.
@marvinwhisman33334 ай бұрын
I have exactly the same issues. Just find yourself a good full face mask and you don't need to worry about taping your mouth shut or one nostril not working. I also sleep on my side at night and it isn't an issue. I just hang the mask off the end of the pillow and tuck the hose under my arm (the side not on the bed) and it works great. I will say it takes some work and dedication to finding the right mask, tubing, pressure settings, mask tightness, where you put the mask on your face, etc etc etc.. But once you get it working it is great.

Glad to hear from someone who has exactly the same sleep challenges as me. I have resmed 10 and F20 cushion masks. Generally works well and quite tolerable, althouhg I struggle to sleep more than 5-6Hrs/night at best of times 😞 I do tape my mouth shut ~85% (not fully shut) which has helped with mouth breathing/dryness. Bridge of my nose is always very red in the morning from the mask and have tried various solutuons/tapes without much success.

@Aiti_Tovi the theory that it is only intermittent vs. someone who has many more severe episodes sounds about right.

@@sharon94503 No I mean that the technology is different, because this new device doesn't utilise constant air pressure. My understanding is that it only activates during an apnoea episode, whereas traditional cpap machines are in a constant state of blowing air- therefore drying us out.

It is pretty hard to treat something if you do not understand the cause of the problem. And what doctors do, at least in my country, is simply measuring the problem and apply enough pressure until the symptom is successfully suppressed. And then call it, ridiculously, "Gold Standard".Why? Because it is easy and inexpensive - and it works every time, if it works for the patient, of course. We do not need another clevery way of supplying air, we need elaborate diagnosis systems, that find the root cause of the individual problem, so that the patient can decide for himself what to do next. It could be CPAP, it could be some form of surgery - or whatever.

Go back and look at that vortex mask at the very end in Freeze that shot of the mask on his face. His upper cheeks are all pushed out from the mask squashing his face and his ears behind his ears looks incredibly uncomfortable. To me it looks like a new torture device for CPAP users. I’d say they should concentrate on the injection to make everybody skinny again and stop sleep apnea that way.

While I'm not in favour of said injection idea lol, I too had noticed exactly what you mention. His ears looked like they would be so sore within just a few minutes of putting it on and his cheeks were being squished. There's a reason hospital doctors and nurses are constantly trying to find ways to wear their masks without the pain of the ear loops continually rubbing their ears. Don't think ear straps are the way to go myself, plus there are lots of people unable to endure things that go up into their nostrils.

"I’d say they should concentrate on the injection to make everybody skinny again and stop sleep apnea that way." You know that isn't a guarantee right? "Although aging and weight are increased risk factors for apnea, thin, younger and even highly fit individuals can have obstructive sleep apnea."

If only the Resmed mini came with the warm tubing, i would be a happy camper. Strange i seem to have higher apnea events when i'm using the full mask versus when i use the pillow cushion mask

I don’t have those issues….. I use a Phillips nasal mask, pressure is 12, tape, and I am good to go. No issues at all. I understand thought it is difficult for many others.

Do you know there is a recall on Phillips CPAP machines? 😰

@@molly5292 Yes, thank you. 👍 Their masks should be fine.

If there is no mask seal, how will this system report on events during the night?

Great question! It can still monitor the flow rate (breathing trace). Cheers
