Old vid but I will still comment never the less. Thank you for a quick concise vid. I'm so sick of long Bs vids with 2 min content stretched out to 30 mins. Well done.

Thank you Aussie! These old videos were VERY QUICK, as the "algorithms" at the time showed that was what people wanted, or something...I don't know! Nowadays with more people "cutting the cord" on cable, we have tried to walk the line of showing a bit more of the process while still keeping it on task without a bunch of fluff!

I never knew how good I had it when I was 16yrs old removing my 66 baja motor. I did it by myself sooo many times. Fast forward to 2022 and I was given a 71 beetle with a dual carb motor that needs to come out and I'm watching this thinking omg it's so much extra work with a standard bug! Lol. Now I know what I get to look forward to. Thanks for the vid!
@Sam_Mebane2 жыл бұрын
With dual carbs, you'll typically have to pull the manifolds and carbs off to clear the side trays of the engine compartment. Once that is done, it is pretty straight forward from there.
@JH-yk5se2 жыл бұрын
@@Sam_Mebane Thanks for the info. That sucks. The motor with those carbs is packed in there like sardines with the factory insulation still present.

It isn't difficult, just takes a few tools and a few minutes!
my Dad bought a brand new 1958 Beetle then a 63 new one and a 68 so he had. A special love for Bugs in general. In the 1970s we lived on the same street as a family member who is a Rock and Roll Drummer and when he and his Wife bought their first house it became a hangout and crash destination for many of their 1970 Hippie freinds one of which drove a Aircooled VW Beetle accross the Country many times my Dad took a liking to that guy who was often outside Wrenching on his car my Father used to come home after talking to the guy and tell me how many hundreds of thousand miles my Cousins band ate and Freind now had on his Beetle in total amazement what my Dad never knew was this Hippie was stealing newer Beetles out of Driveways in the middle of the night and had a System that he could swap out their Engine width his in under 3 hours so he would return their car the same night running with. A old worn out Engine when he had a newer one in his Beetle ! My Dad passed away about 12 years ago and my Cousin told me that story at a family event privately as to why that Freind drove his Beetles for so long I remember VW used to give out badges for every one hundred thousand miles and they attached onto the engine lid or the air vents above the Engine Cover. / below the rear window my Dad wasn’t stupid or naive he was just a friendly guy that liked and trusted almost anyone especially someone that he had common interests with and was talkative and friendly my Cousin is still in the Music scene and his old Freind still stays in touch with him all these years later last I heard he was driving those older Toyota pick up truck motorhome Conversions still traveling around the Country and apparently living in Campgrounds

When I used to do this I would jack up the car and place two tires. (with rims), under the car. That was all the room I deeded to pull the engine.

please clarify when you are jacking the car up to slide the engine under the apron, Where exactly is the middle of the chassis? I want to make certain I have the strong point. Thank you

Just in front of the transmission, there is a small nub on the chassis. We jack the car up at the nub.

There isn't any difference. The engines are the same for any given year Beetle.

Hi. Is it possible to change the intake. Manifold from a 1200cc engine without taking the engine out?
@Sam_Mebane4 жыл бұрын
It is, yes although most of the top portions of the engine will have to come off. We cover some of that in our alternator conversion video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWGYoXuEhJyFh9k
@carlosdanielpinto24804 жыл бұрын
@@Sam_Mebane Will try. For a newbie here, how much time do you think I will need to do so, and what can I do to the new intake manifold not to rust or ''carbonize'' I will post a photo of my intake as it is as soon as possible and why I think why it should be changed. Thanks a lot for your input. From my point of view if it can be done with it inside, I will try.

We’re actually going to start some more videos on the 71 Super Beetle, shortly. We probably won’t be covering much if anything in the way of body work or paint. Paint and body work iisn’t typically VW specific so short of perhaps a floor pan video or something similar, we don’t anticipate doing any body work videos in the future. We will be covering pulling the car apart and getting it ready to head to body work in the immediate future. Thanks for the interest, stay tuned!

Is there a left nut behind the fan shroud??
@Sam_Mebane4 жыл бұрын
No, 1971 and later DOGHOUSE style engines have a threaded boss on the engine case.

What about the upper nut on the driver side?
@stevediy9632 жыл бұрын
What size is the nut?
@Sam_Mebane2 жыл бұрын
Late model engines have a threaded insert in the case as access is very difficult with a "doghouse" oil cooler. For early non doghouse engines, the nut is a 17mm, like the rest.

What bolts did you use to connect the engine to the transmission?
@JBugsVWParts6 жыл бұрын
The transmission is connected to the engine my two studs on the bottom, one upper engine bolt ( www.jbugs.com/product/N104707.html ), and the starter bolt ( www.jbugs.com/product/98-1003.html ). In order to connect those you will need four nuts ( www.jbugs.com/product/N110102.html ) and six washers ( www.jbugs.com/product/N115271.html ).

kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4KVXpV3iLuKbrM&lc=&t=158s - I did, but I mistakenly called it the upper right again, as from the transmission side looking back it was at the upper right.
