did the brakes end up squealing when run?

No, not at all. Grant it we don't have many miles on the car but I've never had many issues with brake squeal. I use brake grease on all the contact areas between the pads and the caliper and that has served me well.

Yo-ho! Yo-ho! The pirate life for me! 'Point at the gap....and move the wire around...' that was awesome. Truer words have never been spoken. Oddly enough, that's about as much as you can say. Welding seems to be 'learn by doing' Just as soon as Nate get comfortable getting CLOSE to the arch, he'll be awesome. Speaking of which...now that Nate can weld, send him out to Arkansas, I need some help!

The first bulb on the top of the tail light unit works with 6v and 12v or how come it lights dim and when the turn signal active it gets full power? Thanks for vid bro.
@Sam_Mebane
@Sam_Mebane 15 күн бұрын
The top bulb should only come on with the turn signal. If it is coming on otherwise, chances are there is a bad ground somewhere. Most likely in one of the tail light assemblies. a 6 volt or 12 volt system doesn't change how the system works, just make sure to match the bulbs (and the rest of the components) to the battery and generator or alternator.

Thank you sir. Yeah, Nate got me on that one, I was thinking 24 and 14 or something along those lines! Either way, not having to cut into the body and still ending up with more than 12" of travel will do just fine for a play car I think.

I would change the angle of the shock to 90 degrees to the rear arm, when the suspension is at full bump... you'll get a better response out of the shocks that way. Congrats on getting shocks on, though! Also, I widened my thing beam for my baja if you have any questions...

Absolutely, a little notch goes a long way, we end up with about 14" with a shock in place. Not bad considering we didn't have to cut into the body for a "long travel" shock. We'll see if it's effective enough in time.

Looking good! So, what's the purpose of the nee tubes? Are they to tie-in of the shocks as well as connect the cage with the frame horns and all?
@Sam_Mebane
@Sam_Mebane 19 күн бұрын
The subframe as a whole was installed to do all of that, but the first purpose was for the shock towers. By the time the shocks are installed (video at 12:00 today) it ends up as a support for the shocks. Second purpose is to tie the roll cage rear legs into the frame horns, and strengthen the whole rear end. Third, it will give us a place to mount the AC condenser.

Had a 72 super with a dealer wide eye Baja kit. Previous owners used it as an off-road toy not knowing any better. That thing was quite literally falling apart when I got it and needed everything. But, got it redone and enjoyed multiple trips across numerous states and light trail riding. Nothing the super couldn't handle. Flat windshield.

Wish I could understand it but I do not understand what you are looking at on the pulley with the light.
@Sam_Mebane
@Sam_Mebane 23 күн бұрын
The timing light shows the moment when the spark plug at #1 cylinder fires. Since this timing light has an adjustable flash, we set it to shine on the TDC notch in the pulley. So, whenever the plug is firing, we look for the notch on the pulley as the light flashes.
@abs656
@abs656 22 күн бұрын
you are looking at a vibrating line on the edge of the pulley that moves to the left or right as you increased the rpm .

Standard beetles had beam front suspension, supers had struts on the front requiring moving the tank and spare.
@Sam_Mebane
@Sam_Mebane 23 күн бұрын
Partially correct, Standards do have beams, Supers do have struts but removing the tank in a Super only allows access to the steering column. There is no need to pull it to to do anything on the front suspension.

What's the problem when you're vw beetle produces a lot of smoke everytime you turn it on
@Sam_Mebane
@Sam_Mebane 27 күн бұрын
The smoke could be excess fuel that has leaked down into the cylinders, or it could be oil leaking into the cylinder. If the smoke is black, fuel is usually the cause and the carburetor might need some work or the fuel pressure might be too high. If it is grey or white, that would indicate oil and indicate the engine has some wear, possibly worn pistons and cylinders, bad valve guides, etc.

Absolutely, the HPMX carburetor has a vacuum port at the lower right hand side - www.jbugs.com/store/graphics/00000001/23/EMPI-40-44-HPMX-Carburetor-Tuning-Adjustment-Components_540x540.gif - where the vacuum diaphragm can be connected.

@ thanks… I asked that in the forums before and got a lot of “dual ports won’t provide enough vacuum”
@Sam_Mebane
@Sam_Mebane Ай бұрын
@@danielhass4812 that depends on the vacuum canister, but in our experience it has worked just fine. You can always check how much vacuum the port pulls with a vacuum gauge, then check the canister to see how much vacuum is needed to advance it, to verify.
