Thank you for this helpful video! My family watches it regularly to stay fresh. I was wondering: if the child is unconscious due to choking (i.e., blocked airway) is it necessary/helpful to do the breaths? Isn't it the case that if the airway is blocked and they can't breathe, we won't be able to push air down the trachea with our own breath?

Hello, The Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines recommend starting CPR if the child is unconscious with abnormal/absent breathing. You may get some air past the object, possible not. The guidelines indicate you carry on CPR as you normally would, regardless of the cause. Hope that helps.

Very informative. I do have an important question. I always hear “get the clothes off” but in reality, do we really have time to do this? Who would have scissors to cut or have the ability to get a shirt over the head?

Great question! AED's usually have shears in the prep kits which can be used to cut off clothes, otherwise just lift up the shirt etc to expose the chest.

Thanks very much for this video. I have a question to be backed up with 2 experiences of a fainted victim. Actually, I've never been trained about or experienced where CPR is being performed on a fainted person/victim before. But I've been hearing and reading about it. So this is one of the first sets of 3 videos I've watched today as regarding CpR. sometimes around August 2020: Exp1. I was in a traffic where two motorcycles collides in a full speed which caused a very fatal accident. One of the men sustained very serious injury and had deep cuts all over his body, while the other man was just lying unconsciously (totally gone) myself and some other guys rushed to the scene, carried the unconscious man to a saver place in a lying position; 'for the first time, I tried performing CpR on the man and after about 30minutes, the first thing I noticed was that I began to feel some kind of rush on is chest which was quite before then, it was during that time the man raised is had for the first time to hold my hand. I continued for another 10minutes though exhausted, then the man raised his head and tried to stand up then we helped him up. After another 10minutes he started talking. To cut the story, he regained his consciousness, we took him to the hospital and he was ok. Exp 2. Just yesterday 23of November 2020. A boy of about 7 years old was beaten by him mother and then fainted. The mother brought him out and cried out for help, everybody were trying their best and I also tried mine, laid him flat and noticed HE WAS FLOPPY AND QUIET. HIS CHEST WAS FLAT AND TOMMY INFLATED kind of; 1. I tried rubbing his Tommy back to the chest to cause ballance, performed some minutes of CpR while others where slapping his foot and yelling his name, after 10 minutes, he started making some sound from his nose (as if the nose was blocked) he was then rushed to the clinic. But unfortunately this morning, he was announced Dead. My question is, though some of us could not follow them to the hospital, and vehicle could not even get to the house due to bad road, so someone placed him on the shoulder lying on his Tommy with his face down to where the vehicle was: 1. What could have been the cause of his death after getting to the clinic 2. Could it be the way he was being carried to the hospital or 3. Were there things that was supposed to be done for him being a child before he was taken to the hospital. FOE7 Because babies are much smaller than adults, you don’t want to over-ventilate them with your breaths and using your whole hands as you would an adult is dangerous. Instead, the two-finger rule for infants 0-12 months is just right amount needed to resuscitate assuming it’s 1/3 depth as opposed to to 2 inches for an adult. It’s just a ratio you’re supplementing for, just as if the adult weighed 400 lbs, you would probably need to press about 4 inches to have effective compressions.
