British Heart Foundation (BHF) celebrated its 6th annual Heart Hero Awards on Wednesday 6 December 2023 at Glaziers Hall in London.
The annual awards recognised some of our CPR Heroes who demonstrated incredible courage and bravery by attempting to save a person’s life from cardiac arrest by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR.
Ray was at his local working men’s club when someone entered and asked for help from anyone with medical experience.
As a former miner, Ray had received first aid and CPR training, so volunteered his skills not knowing what had happened.
He was confronted with a women collapsed on the floor and after assessed her, Ray immediately started CPR while working with a 999 call-handler on the phone.
Ray performed CPR for around 15 minutes until paramedics arrived and continued to help by monitoring the patient’s breathing while they worked to stabilise her.
Ray was nominated as a CPR Hero by his partner, Carol, as his knowledge and fast action saved a stranger’s life.
