Just a curiosity, at 3.5Ghz (T = 285.7ps) light travels 8.56cm each pulse. This really puts things in perspective. Record was 8.723Ghz, at this speed light travels 3.43cm. Pretty insane knowing that the cpu needs to communicate with other devices in your computer.

But the only information we usually have is the clock speed, so how do we know the amount of information per clock a CPU can handle ?
@MaxsTech
@MaxsTech 3 жыл бұрын
It will depend on a lot of factors. But the main take away should be that just because 2 cpus have the same clock speed, 1 can be much faster due to its architecture, since even modern cpus today can have the same clock speed as a chip from the last generation but perform much better.

AWSOME EXPLAINING !! QUESTION PLEASE @35 - 55 YOU SAY "A CLOCK CYCLE IS A SINGLE ELECTRICAL PULSE IN A CPU DURING THIS PULSE THE CPU CAN PERFORM A BASIC TASK, LIKE ACCESING MEMORY, WRITING DATA OR JUST GRABING A NEW SET OF INSTRUCTIONS TO PERFORM" aka fetch/decode/execute... ? then from what i am trying to understand... the pograms to be ececuted which are all based on binary yes then hex / instructions assembler , transitor/mosfet bla bla bla .. ok i think i get it.. the 20 minute videos these days wre like my whole semster in 1987 computer colleges studies... BUT MY QUESTION PLEASE what is the association between the electrical pulse and the .. how does does it get "converted" ?? into the cpu as a "command".. ?? i have seen other stuff about has something to do with 5 volts (wh 5volts) that make the bit/ transitor ...? high or low but stil if we refer to this other great explaining please (tom scott): kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGatdGyMmpamnKs can you make a video about my question
@MaxsTech
@MaxsTech 3 жыл бұрын
That is a bit more in depth on the fundamentals of how that works. Could be an interesting video, perhaps a little niche but ill look into it. From what I know currently I would assume these pulses are the changes in the transistors position from on to off, (0 to 1) or vice versa.

I am currently about to purchase a Laptop for Trading. My main concern is it being very responsive and fast enough to execute buy/sell orders and not experience slippage, which can occur when the price quoted was not the price it was bought or sold at because of the slight changes due to the milliseconds that passed. Option one: 2.6GHz with 6 Cores Option two: 2.3 Ghz 8 Cores Does it make a difference? What do you recommend?
@MaxsTech
@MaxsTech 2 жыл бұрын
I recommend you use limit orders to avoid slippage, otherwise you’ll always have it. Most of the “lag” between you sending an order and it processing is via the internet speed rather than your pc.

I'm confused between "base clock speed 2.6ghz" vs "Max clock speed 3.6ghz" What does this mean? Does it mean my cpu is 2.6ghz or 3.6ghz?
@MaxsTech
@MaxsTech 2 жыл бұрын
Most cpus these days have these “turbo” or “boost” speeds which just means the processor changes speed based on work load/temperature. If it’s cooled enough it should be able to remain at its top speed but as temperature increases it can throttle down to ensure safe operating temperatures. So it will automatically ramp up to that max clock speed when it can to give you the best performance when it’s required for your work load.

IPC uplift is why AMD dominated Intel with Zen 3. Their single core performance was pretty slick without blowing up clock frequency. I may be switching back to AMD in the near future but for now I am content with the performance of my 9900k and 10900k systems...
