CQB In A Mansion

This was filmed and edited by Red Earth Society back in October of 2022. Jared, Jason, and @Stuffsnpews take on a large space with a second story, with limited manpower (3 total). This demo shows a few key points: spacing and cross coverage are important and should be used when available, nonverbal communication is key, and initiative based tactics can solve almost any problem with any amount of manpower, as long as the whole team is well trained and operates on the same SOP.

I started off looking in to the left, and the wall isnt super long. By stepping center and following the wall, I plugged an open closet door straight ahead that y'all can't see. I wouldn't have been wrong going to the left either, as you suggested, but I would have been picking a deadspace over an open door. Ultimately, either choice is fine. Good eye.

We had run the house back to front a dozen or so times by this point, and debriefed on what we liked or didn’t like. So yes and no, it wasn’t a script but it wasn’t an unknown floor plan either.

I'm not anywhere near being an expert and I understand you guys are pros and there are exceptions to the 'rules', but why is team member number 3 standing in the doorway covering the rear from inside the 'fatal funnel'? I mean I understand logically its the best place for him to stand, yet doctrine would suggest he stand either entirely outside of the room's doorway or fully inside the room providing rear security from there?

It’s not about doctrine it’s about what’s best in the moment. If the room is too shallow for him to occupy a good space inside it for holding rear, he is better served by relative concealment from the next biggest threat ( the immediate doors right there) instead of standing out in the bald open.

Going back to back to cover that angle causes the 3 of us to be standing in a clump in the large doorway to the dining room. By splitting the space and making an L shape (the most basic tactic there is) we can keep dispersion and also gain a better angle into the next room. Come out to a course we can show you these very simple solutions that may be outside your doctrinal norm.

@@ericobrien2406small unit CQB is a staple of our curriculum, it’s designed to apply to residential or commercial spaces by teaching based on principles and angles, not on cookie cutter doctrinal solutions. Mansion or trap house, it’s a valid system.
