Epic video. We actually had an Onsrud F98HD in college. Amazing machine, 20hp, 5 axis, 8x8 foot table that can split to 2x 4x8 footers. We used it to CNC profile our FSAE body molds. Awesome to see how the machine is made!

Onsrud used to make huge mills for the aircraft industry. I used to work for a machine tool re-builder back in the early 80s and one of the jobs was to rebuild an Onsrud Gantry skin mill it was 12 ft wide and 90 ft long. We had to climb inside the bed sections to bolt them together. They were made of steel plate 2 or more inches thick. The ways were hardened steel sections that were bolted on as well as the gear racks. The Gantry moved on recirculating roller bearings. The machine used to have hydraulic piston motor drives. We designed and built new anti backlash gearboxes with permanent magnet DC drive motors. Everything about that machine was huge. I am so happy to see they are still in business.

I remember CR Onsrud when they had the small plant down the road 20 years ago. They were a good customer of mine back then and we Blanchard ground the origional Router table tops for them. One of the owners, John Onsrud was in a blue grass band and I still have the CD he gave me.

NYC CNC what a fantastic video I enjoyed every minute. Brilliant American manufacturing company making amazing CNC machines. What a set up. I remember seeing the Onsrud inverted router at the 1980's/90's Woodmex Woodworking machinery exhibition's here in the United Kingdom. I'm glad to see they have survived against the fierce competition from other countries offering similar for less. In house, flexibility and quality always wins if possible. I'm also really impressed by the knowledge the management has about the machinery they have to offer. They're like old school bosses. Brilliant. Tony
