Hey guys how are you all on this wet and cold Friday? Well at least where I am it is . A lot of disappointment I'm sure with today's video as people are probably expecting more but it is something I haven't done before and never really thought about it. But good news is I Finally Got the kiln wired up today so running it through a few checks and hopefully next week it will be in action as I have a few ideas of what my first kilned clay casting will be🤔. Anyway I hope you all have an awesome happy safe weekend and I'll see all you beautiful people next Friday 😃👋🏻

The colours come from different metals in the paints on the caps. The heat 'excites' electrons and raises them to a higher energy level. As the flame cools down the electrons lose this extra energy, emitting it in the form of light. The amount of energy and the relative position of the electrons determines the colour of the flame. The green you see is most likely copper, iron is a very vivid orange, magnesium burns bright white, barium flames are green, strontium gives off a lovely brick red etc.

What about the blue?....
@TheDiplococcus Жыл бұрын
@@exsappermadman25055 There are quite a few that create a blue or blueish flame including copper, bismuth and arsenic. In this case though it's most likely to be tin.

"TheDiplococcus" explanation about exciting electrons and it's relative position is quite correct. Not necessarily metals though. Boric acid for instance burns a color quite similar to certain copper ions ;) Boric acid is used in the making of dyes and paints. Titanium dioxide is also typically used in paints. So are many other metals. Hopefully these days none are carcinogenic.

Hello Interesting melting today! Different colours are due to metals present in the caps paint. Here are some common flame colors associated with specific metals: 1. Lithium (Li): Bright red flame color. 2. Sodium (Na): Intense yellow flame color. 3. Potassium (K): Pale lilac or pink flame color. 4. Calcium (Ca): Orange-red flame color. 5. Barium (Ba): Pale green flame color. 6. Copper (Cu): Blue-green flame color. 7. Strontium (Sr): Bright red flame color. 8. Lead (Pb): Bluish-white flame color. 9. Zinc (Zn): Bluish-green flame color. For next melting video, pls consider a huge motor melting 😂 Have a nice weekend

It's different metals that produce the coloured flames. Magnesium produces a white flame, sodium produces a yellow flame, while copper produces a green flame. I'm not sure what produces the magenta and the violet coloured flames. Based on the paint pigments, which contain a certain amount of metal, the casting could have traces of other metals in it. Cheers! ✌️

As to the question about the colors, aluminum does not live paint. It has to have a special primer for the paint to stick to it. Or you opened up a portal to another dimension.
@kahvinorja Жыл бұрын
What do you mean does not live paint? To my understanding paint sticks to aluminium without primer.
@lyleslaton3086 Жыл бұрын
Paint doesn't like aluminum. Modern paint may be different. In the beginning of aluminum production,the paint would slide off with out the proper primer. The interior of aircraft were zinc chromate green. Also modern sandpaper has helped the problem. However, the rougher the surface, the more drag you have. As to the bottle caps,it was just a thought. I'm going with he has opened a portal to another dimension.

@@lyleslaton3086 Oh, i forgot to respond.. Ok, yea might depend on the paint type. But i paint aluminium five days a week without a primer at work, so thats why your comment interested me.
