Crabbing at Lavallette NJ - 4th of July Weekend 2023

On this 4th of July weekend, went to Lavallette with our guest crabber, Alma. It’s her first time crabbing in NJ!! And our first time crabbing at this dock. We didn’t catch much but the sunrise there was beautiful. As usual, we wont go home without our crab dinner🦀. So off we went to our favorite place (Windward) and she never disappoints. Met other wonderful crabbers and ended up with 26 crabs🦀. Smoked fish, eggs and corned beef for lunch on a hot day. Happy 4th!!! Enjoy the video! 🥰

Hello my friends. So happy to see that you had another successful day of crabbing; you are truly the 'Crab Wisperers' (you need to t-shirts made up for that). Be mindful this week with FULL MOON coming up on the third of July, maybe you will get lucky with a few soft-shell crabs or some shedders (remember the size limits are smaller than hardshell crabs). Tip: make sure none of your crabs are upside down in your bushel basket because they will die before you get home and need to be thrown away. Enjoy your catch!

I love your videos!! I’ve been watching them all day on 4th of July. I also live in NJ and have been trying to find places to go and crab/fish. Mostly around the ocean city area but I’m having a heck of a time finding places that are free and open to the public. Please continue to always post where you are. I also wish I could understand what you are saying any chance of adding subtitles?

I thought your first choice was going to be a winner>. Looks like I'm sticking with your "Plan B" spot as my "Plan A" spot. I didn't do any crabbing this weekend. We got our crabs from my sisters house in Toms River. They have a dock in their back yard and crab from there. Her husband keeps three pots in the water all the time. He gave us about 24 to take home. I'll probably head to Plan A next Thursday.

Yeah, we thought with the hot weather the crabs will be out, but its Windward for the win again. When you said you got 24 crabs from Toms river, we decided to go there this morning and they were all over. They just won’t get into the traps. Most of them we caught with drop lines and ended up getting 40. Couldn’t stay longer because it was too hot. Good luck crabbing next week🥰!

If you clean them before cooking they have a better flavor plus you dont have to deal with the guts when eating . I use to steam them live till I tried them cleaned and rinsed before cooking.

Walmart, or any bait and tackle shop (get the metal ones, NOT the string ones which do not last as long). Have fun!

Yes, you can get them from Walmart or Dick’s Sporting goods, and yes we suggest that you get the ones made of wire. They last longer and don’t go tumbling around in the undercurrent. They cost about $ 9.99 each. They come with little strings. You should replace those strings with stronger ones. You don’t want to loose your traps in a little snag. Thanks for watching. 😊

@@MheiTheFishBeWithYou 😊Using drop lines is a lot of work, and yes a lot of fun. We sometimes blame each other when a big crab gets away and then laugh about it. Its a slow process but you can see the crab as you slowly scoop it. Sometimes you’ll see 2 in 1 bait. We always combine traps with drop lines, so we can check the lines while the traps are in wait.
