Crabbing is a popular recreational activity that involves catching crabs for either sport or food. It offers an engaging and hands-on experience for those who enjoy being near the water and exploring nature.
To go crabbing, you typically need a few essential tools such as a crab trap or pot, bait (often raw chicken or fish), and a measuring device to ensure you comply with size regulations. The process usually begins by loading the trap with bait and lowering it into the water, where crabs are known to inhabit. Waiting patiently for theabs to be lured in is just part of the excitement.
Once the trap has been submerged, it's time to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Depending on the location, you may have stunning coastal views or peaceful riverbanks to enjoy while waiting for your catch. Crabbing can be a great opportunity to connect with nature, often accompanied by the calming sounds of waves or the gentle flow of a river.
After some time, you'll need to retrieve your trap. Pulling it up slowly, you might feel the weight of the crabs inside as you eagerly anticipate what you've caught. Once the trap is at the surface, there's a sense of anticipation and curiosity as you assess your catch.
As you open the trap, you may find a variety of crab species, each with their own distinctive colors and shapes. It's important to handle them with care, ensuring your safety and theirs. While many crabs are released back into the water after measurement, some may make it to the dinner table if they meet the necessary requirements.
Overall, crabbing offers a unique and engaging way to spend time outdoors. Whether it's the thrill of the catch, the satisfaction of connecting with nature, or the enjoyment of a delicious meal, crabbing provides a memorable experience for people of all ages and skill levels. So grab your gear, head to your favorite crabbing spot, and immerse yourself in this rewarding activity.

Thank you so much and there are 2 types of crabs that are very common at this beach. First one are call Dungeness crabs and are highly sought after because of their big size and full of tender sweet meat. Their shells are easy to crack open as well. The 2nd one are call red rock crabs and not many people enjoy them due to their size. If people were to keep them, they usually only take the huge claws. I personally enjoy them because their meat are a lot sweeter than the Dungeness. Only downside of them is their extremely tough shells that is a lot tougher than the Dungeness and their size. When they are tiny it’s extremely tedious to eat.
