Kuat SD's, Providences, MC75 OC's Venator 1's often want to close fast to get blue crit, black crit and raid upgrades in range. Never underestimate the power of Phylon Tractor Beams. If your opponent has a Christmas tree with pricey upgrades that are out of range for one or two extra turns, it can give you the win.

Semi-RIP Armada. Never gained the traction that it deserved, but the pricing was at a level that didn't seem like a good value. Part of this was that people didn't seem the cost that went into the bases. Part of it was the size of some of the ships. The movement tool is brilliant and I'm waiting for the patent to expire, so that other games can steal it. The order dials are also a nifty way to make the big ships seem sluggish without the need for literal movement pre-plotting. On the other hand, Christmas tree Star Destroyers were a mistake. The sheer number of options gives the impression that the game is about list design, not tactics. It also makes the rules (that appeared on the cards, not in the rulebook) overwhelming for new players. And squadrons! Great ideas ruined by overpowered aces. Eliminate almost all of the aces and you have a fascinating tactical game.

I actually had one match end taking one of the last two dyng Cruisers and crashing it straight into the unshielded bridge of the destroyer. Next action I think the SD would've wiped the remnant of the fleet. Hell of a game.

Just a small nitpick, at 6:32, you cannot deploy your ship at speed 0 iirc, you can only deploy at a speed that is printed on your ship’s card, which they all start with speed 1. The way to do it is to navigate command that ship and slow it down to speed 0 during the movement phase. It’s a nitpick on a tournament level so it’s not often brought up

You usually cannot deploy at speed zero but there are some tricks that allow you to, like Interdictor gravity wells for example. However more typically the move is to deploy at speed 1 and Nav first turn down to zero so still resulting in not moving.

Is it possible to use squadrons oriented fleets to take down big ships? I mean like a Quasars with a bunch of squads or are squads useless in the current meta?

I think the gameplay for armada is well designed so that there is a reasonable decision to be made between large and smaller ships. I agree with the general tactic of keeping the large ship at arms length for as long as possible then use the speed and maneuverability to get out of danger.

I love running small ship swarms, especially with Rebels. Ramming with Hammerheads can be fun especially with Garrel's Honor. I've faced 8 Hammerheads and they can be annoying to deal with in a game

I'd just assumed you bring a large section of bomber squadrons, or squadrons that throw down alot of dice. Shreds the armour for relatively low cost
