the hvac person who came to my house for a leaking drain pan said they need to disconnect/cut the copper tubes and re charge the freon to change the drain pan. Is he just padding the bill? want's $1200 in NJ I have a high efficiancy Rheem furnace that looks similar to the one you worked on in the video. I liked and subscribed. That was a great video.

Some systems you do need to disconnect the coil which requires removing Freon, evacuation, etc. seems like a fair bill if all that’s needed. Thanks for the support.

OMG! This is the best video I've found yet, I'm having this same exact issue, only thing I have refrigerant lines directly in front of that triangle panel so I can't get it off to get to those two screws way in the back. Any suggestions are welcome thanks alot.

That’s a tuff one. Only way is to try and bend (without kinking) them out of the way or cut the Refrig pipes and do the whole process with that. Good luck.

Great video! I had some technicians do a similar pan replacement, as well as replacing my drain pipe. A few days later now my system ices over. Any ideas why that would be?

If the filter and coil are clean it Could be low on refrigerant. If they had to pump the refrigerant down to replace the pan (which you have to do sometimes doing this) they may have either not put enough refrigerant back, or you might have a leak. Best to get them back out to have a look.

I, have been following your videos . I have an issue trying sell my home during first hvac repair guy found no serious issue. Fast forward two weeks later check we hear water dripping inside bottom drain pan. We looked only one side had condensation a rust spot on corner metal on one side and at the bottom a rust stain opposite side. The water leaking coming out the front and dripping into the drain pan. How can we stop if on a budget we have a buyer who wants no inspection. Should I think about fixing anyway?

Could the crack be "repaired" by coating the inside of the drain pan with a waterproof sealant, such as Flex-Seal? Cracked drain pans are common in Whirlpool refrigerators. The Whirlpool pans are plastic, and it's believed the cracking is due to the vibration of the fridge motor. Perhaps the frequency of the vibration is close to a resonant frequency of the pan? Maybe the vibration could be dampened by inserting rubber grommets between the pan and the points where the pan is screwed down.

Could have used a pan spray or flex seal but I usually only use that in a temporary fix. Sometimes if it’s just a very hair line crack I’ll leave it with pan spray but a crack that big I like to do the whole pan. I’ll check the vibration next time. Thanks.

I have an AC from 1999, the drain pan is metal and rusted out near where the PVC drains the water to outside the house. I want to replace it with one of these plastic units. Where can I buy such a pan? Thank you. Other than the leaky pan, the AC works just fine. I really don't want to replace the whole thing.

Typically the original coil would have needed to come with a plastic pan to get a plastic replacement.

The cracking is probably due to repeated expansion and shrinking due to temperature fluctuations. Or maybe it's just a bad batch of drain pans from the factory.

What is a good way to find the crack? I had 2 HVAC companies came and 1 said there is a crack, the 2nd pour water on top of it and didn't find any crack or leakage from the drain pan. Very frustrating. The leak only happens when the AC is OFF. No leak when the unit is ON. Plumber cleared the primary drain line with a snake and a blew air in it. Does that says anything to anyone as to the root cause of the leak?

The pan needs to be inspected thoroughly (Sometimes even removed from the unit) to inspect it for cracks.

You did not show getting the coil over the top of the drain pan. Please show the whole process and don't skip over anything, makes for better videos.
