@Incorruptus1 Well, one could look at it as a small beginning. Her exposure from where she came from could inspire others to be bold enough to speak out. Plus she would work well for the western media. There have been other Russian people who have spoken out such as the Russian dude from Canada, Konstantin of INSIDE RUSSIA and now Ivan of Sanctioned Ivan. The common denominator is they all left Russia to do it. The ones that had some power and influence in Russia before they left life this woman and Konstantin and a few others could throw more weight around as for knowing what they are talking about.

Thank you Dr. Smart for an excellent conversation it couldn’t be excellent without a great guest! Ms. Gaidar has a very experienced view of Russian behavior and a pleasure to listen to. What is Russia’s fascination with Ukraine? Fertile soil, minerals, gas and oil and most important - Sevastopol. Thank you! 🙏🏻 🇺🇦
@briseboy2 ай бұрын
Insightful comment! But MORE than Sevastopol. Direct route to Africa and other targeted subjects. More complete control of fossil fuels to Europe, as Azeri, Kazakh, and Turkmen gas & oil routes will be completely controlled. There exist more MAJOR factors, as this ignores the fact that warm water ports, the equivocal Turkish attitudes shown since invasion, russian "ownership of Black Sea will doom Georgia, pull Armenia firmly back into muscovite sphere. The once-soviet steel, shipbuilding, and other industries - Black Sea gas fields, will economically add to sontrol. The defection of Sholtz to putin puppet shows that Germany will rather fragment EU unity than recognize that russia MUST itself be fragmented into the several or man nations. Such economic conservatism, the farcical desire to return to the past, when all russian aggression absorbing and reabsorbing Central Asia, and, economically controlling East Europe, was ignored. There are more major considerations that should concern the now-fragmenting EU and other nations, and of course the USA, presently too inward-concerned. The French see the problem of russia. BRICS meeting is Oct 7, and russian propaganda operations concerning the huge populations, and vulnerable small nations, continues, ignored by English-speaking media.

She is one of the expatriate community of former Russian politicians. As such she is a threat to Moscow today. One of the reasons the South African transition from apartheid to today's governance worked well was because the African National Congress largely was able to stay together regardless of apartheid & even when their leaders were in prison on Robben Island. I believe that Putin understands this, understands how political opposition can survive & even thrive under imprisonment, & that's why he'll never allow a Robben Island under his watch. Putin will always attempt to murder any Russian political opposition regardless of where they are or who they are. This is one of the reasons Putin has no visible nor groomed successor. A successor could replace him, & that's the last thing he wants. He will keep himself at the center, & that fact is why Putin is really the largest threat to Russians' National security. If he gets sick or he dies, his Federal government can't sustain itself because they rely on him for all important decisions in addition to the political power he alone wields to keep every senior Ministry official secure in his or her job. If that decisional authority or that power is substantially weakened or removed the knives, ever-present in every senior Russian Ministry environment today, will come out. Russian governmental stability, already built on top of a house of cards, will not survive that. It'll be like the late Nineties in Russia all over again. There'll still be laws, yes, but noone will follow them.

This ladies assessment is right on target in my opinion , further defining the idea that you can't negotiate with, or trust Russia , and the answer to this issue is not an easy one no matter what happens. The Ideology of the Russian people is deeply engrained and won't be transformed easily if ever no matter what becomes of the current regime, chances are the next leader will be a different flavor of the same ideology, Russian society may not have the ability to assume independent thought because what they have is all they know, and becoming responsible for their own future may be more than they can navigate without dominating and suppressing others to get what they want. Russia is truly the bully on the playground taking others lunch money, it seems the only way to get what they want, it's all they've ever known.

The conscripts dying and being captured in Kursk will have some impact throughout the country. As was suggested in the video it will probably be easier to blame Ukraine rather than the government. Perhaps an economic collapse will shift the full blame to the government. Will it be replaced by another authoritarian government or will the Russian people learn to value themselves and choose democracy. If they don't value themselves, they won't value the lives of their neighbors and peace won't be achieved.

From 22:20 into the video Maria Gaidar begins to ask the question""WHY? WHY? The Baltic countries could get into NATO and why, why Ukraine couldn't get into NATO? Her answer reflects on the International Community only reacting to Russian Imperialism manipulations, yet one must recall that many aspects of Ukrainian Society were directly shaped and interwoven from Soviet times to function in many similar ways. And in spite of Ukrainian Society rejecting Russian mores and practices large numbers of societal functions were simply not to be scrapped overnight. The West responded both enthusiastically as well as reservedly. Joining the EU is a process, played out over time. Certain requirements were demanded from Brussels to KIEV, and they are amazingly increasingly being ticked off the list of TO-DO tasks in Ukraine, in spite of 10 years of War with Russia/Pukin. Uniquely, Ukraine is addressing Corruption which is Russian to the core, Oligarchs included ; yet step for step being weeded out of the Ukrainian Societal garden. While Russian interference in Ukrainian admission to the EU membership has been of enormous significance in the delay, the fact remains that the overwhelming majority of EU Members (as well as NATO members) are highly supportive of Ukraine's joining. The Simple fact is that ascendance to membership shall not occur until THE END OF WARFARE. SLAVA UKRAINI! 🔱 😎

Last year for instance, the Europeans imported €1.35Bn of Russian grains with negligible tariffs, and reluctantly allowed €20.0M of Australian grains in with a 50% tariff added. It’s very peculiar that the Europeans proclaim unity of The West while waging a very long term economic war against an ally who too often has come to their rescue, and who also spends hundreds of of millions on their defence every year through Five Eyes and who they recently begged for AWACS cover.

I believe she's wrong on the market-driven economy issue. A market-driven economy is one where demand drives supply, that's true. But on top of that, a market-driven economy is one driven by real, fair competition - without fair competition supply and demand are not getting matched through a market, i.e. a place where all agents have equal access to supply and demand, but through occult political relations which channel supply and demand based solely on political clout. In Russia, there was never real competition from an economic or technological point of view. Competition was driven solely by political clout. You can even have an entire multi-million company stolen from you, without political protection.

In the first 3 minutes she has analyzed the INTRACTABLE nature of russian culture, and WHY russia must be fragmented into numerous peaceable cultural nations, from Yakutia, Buryatia, Kalmykia, Tatarstan, Idel-Ural, Finno-Ugric and Karelia independent nations. Dagestan perhaps, but from my ignorant view, it is mixed tribals. Armenia, recognizing it needs protection from more than one inimical neighbor, will also be sacrificed by Scholtz along with Georgia, and of course the EU. Ms. Gaider must be aware of all these socioeconomic vectors. There was no real democratic pressure -- the old ex-soviet siloviki, and the oligarchs arising in the final soviet years controlled far too well, and the former still do. The apolitical russians are easily controlled by internal policing. This had never changed from Tsarist Cheka. "i dont understand".... I do. Listen to russians, they call themselves "pofigists" it means i dont care. Listen to Russians about themselves тихи ездишь дольше будешь. It means go quieter life longer. Ничего не получается. It means nothing will come of your efforts. Welcome to the real Russia! Государство обманывает

Russia behaved badly and should have let Zelensky join NATO so NATO can setup missiles' along Russia's border. Putin should consider these missiles as deterrents and not a threat. Putin.over reacted, just like the US did when Kruschev started to put missiles in Cuba.

Jason's Smart's questions are pertinent, but somehow Maria Gaidor's answers disappoint. Is it partly because she likes to speak too fast in English for someone with a foreign accent, and her voice tends to drone, or is it that there is little new that surprises?

Let me give one example. I might be not accurate, with deviation of +-10% In WW2 (btw, with enormous support from US and UK), on one dead Natsi, 11 russian soldiers died. In the current war, the relation is 1:6 thanks God. and he keeps sending. No brain. Trying to figure his common sense, is a waste of time. self awareness - Zero
