I know that I get a lot of joy and fulfilment from my turning and I enjoy sharing my ideas, so I'm pleased you find them interesting. I've got a giveaway going on one of my platters. If you want to be in the draw, leave a comment on this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmPWaIqqg7CFeLs Best wishes!

Stewart Furini I did think that tbh. Have you tried crackle paint? Just wondering if you could use that as an underlay and then colour over the top

I haven’t used crackle spray. I’m seeing what I can do with the supplies I already have....unofficial new Year resolution is to buy as little as possible...but still have fun!

Stewart Furini hi Stewart, thanks for answering so quickly. I sprayed (painted) my first platter recently and then spray lacquered it, however when I went to turn the centre like you did, where the paint meets the raw middle section, the painted area is cracked? Are you able to please give me any advice??? I love the stuff that you do! Cheers Sean
@stewartfurini7 жыл бұрын
Hi Sean - how did you turn the middle? Did you start by setting the outer rim with a parting tool? This might cut through the paint cleaner than if you started with a bowl gouge? You could also try marking the edge of the rim with a parting tool by making a shallow cut before you start colouring - this way you won't be cutting through the paint to form the bowl centre. Hope this is helpful...Cheers.

What a great start to the year, a really good effect on the platter and a great piece Stewart. Can you just confirm what you were spraying, I think I heard spirit stain rather than acrylic paint.....is that right...? Many thanks and a Happy New Year.

Hi Stewart, today's question; since your my font of knowledge. What kind of mask are you using when spraying the acrylics/lacquer/pyrography. I have a powered respirator, but to my knowledge, they are for dust, not fumes. Ta for the help you've given me to date. I do really appreciate it. The guys at my club are a bit old school and don't seem to do anything inventive.
@stewartfurini5 жыл бұрын
Hi Debbie - I have an Elipse vapour mask for spraying. For pyrography, as I have only done a few things, I don't have one of the charcoal filter fans that I've seen. The vapour mask gives some protection though. Here's the type I have: www.amazon.co.uk/GVS-Filter-Technology-SPR503-Respirator/dp/B013EBJPPM. If you were going to do a lot of pyrography I'm sure one of the charcoal filters would be advisable given that the wood smoke is carcinogenic! Where is your club?
@debbiecoull69575 жыл бұрын
Thanks Stewart, my club is in Dundee. They are a great bunch, but not experimental.
@debbiecoull69575 жыл бұрын
Oh, I already have that mask. It's what I used before I got my powered one. I'll just use that then when spraying. Ta again.

Really nice effect, Stewart -- but I'll cheerfully admit that I don't have the patience to steal this one. I've personally found that the solution for those times you don't want to wear your mask is to just hold your breath for 15 minutes :-D Clyde

HI, what spray gloss product did you use?
@stewartfurini5 жыл бұрын
Hi Debbie - I used Hycote lacquer from Amazon: www.amazon.co.uk/Hycote-Bodyshop-Clear-Lacquer-400ml/dp/B0086V45JW/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_1?keywords=hycote+lacquer+professional&qid=1553105295&s=gateway&sr=8-1-fkmrnull This costs a bit more because it has a 'professional' nozzle which I find gives a better finish than the standard nozzle...Cheers!
