Craft Fur Clouser

Detailed instructions for tying a Craft Fur Clouser.
Recipe:
Hook: Standard saltwater hook (here, a Dai-Riki 930), sizes 2/0-2.
Thread: Red, 6/0 or 14 Denier, red.
Eyes: Dumbbell eyes, size large (1/4-inch), white.
Flash: 4 strands of Gold Krystal Flash.
Back: Off-white Craft Fur.
Belly 2: Craft Fur, medium olive.

Hey Tim! I may not use craft fur but that was a brilliant tye. Everything you do has effective purpose and great thought. I would like to build that head and gills with buck tail. Great tutorial and pattern. Even though it's a "Clouser" I've wondered how a head weighted thunder creek would look, never thought of barbell eyes and and craft fur. Cool scissors, new "ray gun" bondic, lots of tips, thanks Tim for another excellent tutorial! 👍

Indeed! I'm thinking 4 or 6. I was also wondering if you could tie this on an offset Texas worm hook to make it a bit weedless.

That's a great idea. The hook would need to have a fairly long offset behind the eye.

have made a lot of saltwater clousers in my time but a thunder creek called a clouser is new to me. but I guess if you turn it upside down and put a weed guard on it they do look very closely the same.

Crafts get cold as well you know! They need the underfur to stay warm!

Yes but I prefer the ones harvested in Summer when the underfur is much thinner and easier to comb out!

Tim -- Sometimes you use barbless flies and sometimes you don't. Under what circumstances do you believe that you need barbs? I used to use barbs, but that was so long ago (>40 years) that I don't remember any need for them; maybe I have forgotten some good purpose for barbs?
