Nice details you've added to this fly. I like flies that are tied with function in mind. This is a great fly.

Thanks, glad you liked the video. For smallies, adding rubber legs to the pattern works wonders. Just overhand knot two or three pairs onto the hook shank before wrapping the estaz forward. Have fun.

You’re an inspiration @tightlinevideo. I’m 100% self/KZbin taught and it’s surprisingly difficult to find good tying into, especially gurgler instructional information considering how ubiquitous they are. The 34011 hooks and the foul guard changed the game for me. I think Jack had 2 things in mind when he tied them half way down the shank with the long hook out the back. 1st like you’re saying to keep the vulnerable materials out of the way and out of the mouth of a fish and to get purchase with short strikes. Secondly, and maybe I’m over analyzing this, but the fly cants back and down in the water, and sits exactly like my spooks, poppers, whopper ploppers, and pencil plugs at rest. Genius… and I think that position at rest has gotten me bit more than it hasn’t. Not sure if you’re still tying these, but I like a large googly eye on the bottom front. Maybe it’s a confidence thing, but I like a topwater plug with an attraction point and to knock and rattle, and this has been a great way for me to get that effect with a fly. Thanks again and well done.

I watch all your videos and when I saw this video I figured I would tie some of these for my week long trip to Florida...wasn't really going just to fish but was toting the flyrod and fished most every morning and evening....my first cast I caught an 18" snook..and the rest of the night couldn't keep the fly away from the jacks!!!! Thanks for all your videos

I'd strongly urge you to get both sets of jaws. I use the large hook groove all the time particularly for streamers. The midge jaws not only hold hooks smaller than an 18 really well, they also allow much better access to the back of the fly which makes things like splitting a microfibbett tail on an RS2 much easier. Glad to hear you're getting the Indexer, it's a great vise.

Both are great choices if you want rotary capabilities. If you don't do a lot of rotary tying, the Kingfisher Limited Edition looks is really nice.

Dyna-King Ultimate Indexer, worth every penny. Get the optional midge jaws and the vise will handle anything from an 8/0 down to a size 32. Check out their website, we did the video outlining the features of the vise.

You can use sewing thread in a pinch, but you'll find threads specifically made for tying like UTC Ultra Thread or Uni-Thread much easy to work with and far more durable.

Planing on getting the Ultimate Indexer, just have one last question, the midge jaws dont have the 2 larger game hook grooves from what i know and i didnt know if the grooves would be very important in adding stability for my larger saltwater patterns, just didnt know which jaws to get (even though i dont tie too many size 32 midges). Thanks again!

Do you recommend a mono weedguard for smaller sizes too (varying thread size with hook size). Seems to make sense.

Hi I just wondered, didn't Jack Gartside's Gurgler use his Gartside's Secret Stuff (GSS) for the body? I understand that the flashy chenelle is easier to work with, but it can't do all the things GSS can do. I just got Jack's Secret stuff book but haven't had a chance to read it yet. I am in hopes the gurgler recipe is in there. All the best, Sean
