Just a thought, but if you were interested in making those grave markers just a little more "slapped together", run some dental floss against the flat of your hobby knife to fray it up a little bit and then wrap it around your marker spokes. This'll give those markers a really nice "tied together" look, like some rustic bailing twine. You can soak this in some brown water color after it's been frayed up to give it a rope look.

Wow! This is brilliant! I just built a graveyard about two months ago. Wish I saw this video first, but hey, we can always go back to the cemetery!

Great tutorial, I use a similar technique, though I have an added step to help make sure that the sand stays in places. Before I paint, I add a coat of glue/water to the sand/gravel combo. This makes it harder for the sand or gravel to break off and necessitating a repaint at a later point. I usually do about a 50/50 mix of water and glue, something similar to what you would use for papier mache. Cheers on your videos, I've been loving them.

That with a mound of the dirt taken out from it would be a cool add on to this piece. Roderick trips over the pile and goes headfirst into the grave. Poor Roderick.

Very easy to make and it looks really good. But for the first ten minutes of the video, it looked like a sandy toilet seat. ;)

Alternately, you could just cut the head off of some stick matches. They'd be a little bit shorter, but It would work too, and lots of people have stick matches around the house.

Top notch! I just ordered a little of that clay. Seems wise to have a small bucket on the craft shelf. You mentioned that sand mixture in a previous vid (a specific kind to get - not play sand) but I forget its name. Mind re-sharing that sand term again? Assuming a Home Depot or a Lowe's carries it.

These are just painting guidelines. You can always add more color variation.
@starwriter3412 жыл бұрын
I like it over all, but I would have added one more lighter layer of brown on the dirt.. But that is me, I have always drybrushed three different colors and layer them to bring out textures..

most of my stuff is pretty cheap compared to other crafters. You just need some tools and paints.

Great video. Without the grave marker, this could be a burrow entrance. Rabbit season? Ankheg season?

Finer sand and you don't have to paint the sand... Just leave it natural dirt color.

How long did the sand-on-glue step take to dry?
@theDMsCraft7 жыл бұрын
about a day depending on conditions...I usually work on another project while one is drying.
@theDMsCraft12 жыл бұрын
Sure could.
@lynnskelton79716 жыл бұрын
Pretty cool. But, I do not understand why you are painting the dirt if it was already glued in place. It looks more realistic to me when the sand used was not painted.

I wanted it to look like turned earth and preferred the brown but the great thing about crafting is that you can paint it (or not) any way you like.

i just wanted to say that the cross is actually a symbol for the sun, or rather it's a part of the cross of the zodiac, the symbol has just been adopted by christianity.
@timothyhunt1256 жыл бұрын
Actually, no. Christ was crucified on a cross. That's why it's the symbol for Christianity...
@LuciferVonCarstein5 жыл бұрын
@@timothyhunt125 But it's use predates Christ. I'm not sure if Sebatian's statement is correct or not, but it did have a symbolic meaning long before Christ was ever born.
