this album is still so fucking good. I got into music in my freshman year of high school and am now in my senior year and this is one of the FEW albums i can bump in entirety now that i could do the same to in grade 9. criminally underrated.... those reverb soaked vocals and guitars..... hngggggggggg

I still listen to this LP every so often. Still good to listen to! I'd forgotten how catchy the tracks were on my most recent listen, and I found myself liking track after track. "Oh, it's *this* song" I remember thinking to myself many times. Songs I'd forgotten about had become instantly recognizable again, in a good way. Can't believe it was nine years ago now.

Gallery/Idle Labor remain my favourites by Craft Spells, quite disappointed in Nausea. Not particularly enjoying their new, more chilled out sound. Lacks that explosive uniqueness that made them so great.
@MegaSnippezz7 жыл бұрын
Nausea is probably my favorite from them, especially the song Nausea from it. The chorus in that song is just purely beautiful.
@robert73577 жыл бұрын
agreed, it's mine too, the first time I heard it, when it hits the chorus I had the feeling I was melting and everything was really slow and nice

@daylightdude i wasn't saying the bedroom music sent to me is BAD. i was saying most of it doesn't sound like a new wave revival with very accurate representations of the synths / drums in that era.

@theneedledrop Hey Anthony, could you review Craft Spells' newest album, Nausea? You gave this a pretty favorable review, was hoping maybe you'd like this newest one from 2014, I believe.

I love bands that sound like this, but only a few can I truly enjoy without it sounding like something I've heard before-neverthless I'm definitely digging Craft Spells...I love the album artwork as well. I also love The Needle Drop, and you Anthony and Cal as well...keep being awsome :-)

Thanks for reviewing this, wouldn't have discovered it if it wasn't for this video. I just finished listening to it for the first time, and it was very enjoyable. I enjoyed it much more than I initially thought I would. I agree with you mostly, I would give it a light to decent eight. Great analogy with the cassette, by the way. Haha!

My favey New Wave album is most likely So by Gabriel. Of the "New New Wave" (or New Wave revival, whatever the heck you wanna call it) bands -- I enjoy quite a few of them -- my faveys are Bloc Party and MGMT. But it's a pretty broad sub-genre. You should probably review Tomboy by Panda Bear when you have the chance.
@iheartnewms13 жыл бұрын
Awesome review, loved what you had to say (as always). It would be cool to see you do a review of the new Bibio whenever you get the chance. OR maybe review Burial's new "Street Halo" ep. I know it's a 3 song ep, and I'm pretty sure you usually don't touch on shorter releases, especially since you got your track reviews as well, but you could always review this release alongside the other release that came out a week ago alongside Four Tet & Thom Yorke (Ego / Mirror).
@TheNorthernIcicle13 жыл бұрын
Nice review! I will definitely give this album a chance. Judging from your review, this will probably prove to be an interesting addition to my current, ever-expanding taste in music. As for what you should review next, I think, it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on R.E.M.'s latest outing, Collapse Into Now, and Rubik's new album, Solar. Keep up the good work! :D

Awesome review. So far this year I could say we're generally on the same page with what we think on some albums. You should review Peter Bjorn & John's Gimme Some next. I personally feel it isn't getting the love it deserves.

Your observations are spot on in terms of 'revivalism' and this is definitely a good thing. To know where we're gong we must familiarise ourselves with where we've come from! i feel a sense of nostalgia induced euphoria when listening to a lot of recent records :)

When i was a child or a young teenage in the '80 i hated new wave, because at that time this genre it was too mainstream. Growing up i discover that there is good in every style. For me some great album in new wave are the first 2 of DURAN DURAN (very pop but great), "Gentlemen Take Polaroid" of JAPAN, A secret Wish by PROPAGANDA (a not well known german band), and Matematics by JOHN FOXX, probably for me the highest expression in this genre.

Anthony, I didn't really like the Minks album and I thought the Wild Nothing album was decent. I like the bands that these groups are influenced by, but I am not sure I will like this because of the modern take of the New Wave/Post Punk genre. Should I give it a try or just stay away from it?

This is another album I'm really enjoying at the moment. So 80's but in a modern way. I like the falsely artificial quality of these tracks. This sound was once basically only coming from Great Britain, but they are from California. I am impressed by the catchy melodies structured in songs which sound so original and fresh. :)

@NostalgicProcrast You need to go in a quest to refind your passion. Asaguitar player myself I get that kind of frustration (in my case is the wall every player needs to burst trough: being able to play nicely but not impressive) I think most musicians have that feeling at least once. Experiment! Do strange things! I love jazz, but I think sometimes it gets swallowed by the rules it has... Good luck!

Joy Division > New Order. Yeah, New Order pioneered the electronic sound of the 80s that influenced a lot of the techno and electro of today, but Joy Division's music is some of the most powerful and intense music ever written. And lyrically, there's no contest. That said, New Order is pretty fucking good and I hear them all over this album, diggin it quite a bit
