A friend once text me something from her Facebook feed that said there are two types of crafters; those that collect supplies and those that actually use them. 😉 Sadly, I lean toward collecting as my time to use them has been quite limited. I would like to swing that pendulum back towards more usage in 2020. 🙂

It's totally OK to admit a product doesn't suit you, don't feel like you have to apologize, you didn't bash any of the products. I laughed when I saw the distress oxide sprays because I too went whole hog in on them this summer (because I LOVE the pads) and have not found the sprays that useful.

I recently bought the complete set, all 60 bottles. Not really because I need them, but like you I love the pads and because they came so highly recommend from crafters I follow. Two years ago l started hosting Art Sunday’s for 3 adults and my granddaughter (she is eight), I supply all the art supplies and they provide dinner. Tiffany we heard your hesitation, but you received a lot of love in the comments. Why? First because of the bravery in your honesty, and secondly because every crafter has purchased supplies - sometimes very expensive supplies - that we don’t use. As Susan Myrick basically said, your personal style just doesn’t lend itself to these particular products and supplies. As Ardyce Seabrook said: you like what you like, and as you said: your decision not to use is likely no reflection on the product’s quality. Great video - TFS!👍🏾

I was like you - buy because it's pretty, buy because I KNOW I'll use it someday, buy because I saw someone else make something beautiful, buy, buy, buy. Then my income changed. My life is fine but I did need to change my priorities. I decided to have a craft day and invited friends and family to come over, create a Christmas craft using all my extra supplies, and take with them whatever they wanted. (I had my favorites and most used items in my craft room which was off-limits.) We had such a fun day, lots of laughs, some treats to eat, and it was wonderful to know that everyone enjoyed themselves and had new craft supplies that they would use. Now, I use everything I have, my craft area is less cluttered, and my mind is more at ease knowing I'm not wasting my money. I'm much more focused on using what I have (which is still a LOT, believe me! LOL!) without spending until I actually run out of something. For me, this was the best choice.

I don't make cards for children, and I don't like that kind of card for adults. I also don't use many stamps for scrapbooking, which got me into all the supplies in the first place. I have tried to find places to donate some of the things I use the least (or never), but it isn't easy to find them. I have given quite a bit to a local school's art department. Including an a very expensive accucut die cutting machine (was I crazy?). Good luck getting your craft life into such clear perspective. I think it is super helpful to have feedback on products you don’t use. Helps us to question whether we should spend our money on them. I watch a lot of beauty videos and those content creators often do a ‘purchase or pass’ video on the new releases that come out and I do enjoy those. I have so many products and some I don’t use much at all. I used to buy all of the new colours of stampin’ up markers and now I don’t use them as they have been replaced by my clean colour real brush markers, especially as I don’t have the matching card stock now. I have been dying to have the liquid watercolours but I love my Daniel Smith and Altenew watercolours. I buy loads of interactive dies but haven’t used any of them at all! I have totally avoided the Project Life and Planner trend. Not my cup of tea. I totally get why that staycation if not useful.

Hi Tiffany, Whether we agree on the products you chose or not....your point is well taken. I've learned the hard way and spent dollars I didn't have to on products I could live without. Having gone, over the years from primitive painting with acrylics to fabric art, to needle felting, watercoloring and now mixed media I have supplies that have overflowed my craft space, into tubs out in the hall. I am now interested in journal making and all the various supplies that go along with them. I love all the various media I've worked in and even taught classes in some of them. So think carefully about all the wonderful art supplies that are out there before you invest in them. My Sister and I used to call it "the gathering". When you discover something you want to learn and do, you have to first "gather" all the things you feel necessary to work on the craft. So you buy and shop and watch for sales and coupons and gather up all your goodies before you even learn everything there is to learn about that particular skill. So take it slow and double think before you add anything to your supplies that you could easily do without or substitute with something else. You'll save money and storage space. Just sayin'.

I don't think you should apologize at all about any of your opinions. That's why there are so many options in the crafting world....everyone is different and loves different products. What works for one person may not necessarily work for another. And that's ok. And it makes all of our work unique. I appreciate your honesty. I'm not a big impulse buyer when something first comes out, but I have a hard time resisting a good sale...whether I need it or not! Like you, I can't get into the cute stamps and the scenic sets, but I love what others do with them. And I've bought planners and never really used them. I have to do a BIG purge this year and figure out what I really love. Great video! TFS, Heather

This pot is thrilled to meet a kettle! Having been a crafter/collector since 1997 you might well image that I have had my fair share of regrets in the items I've invested in over the years. I'm embarrassed to say that many things have been given to Goodwill, offered on my local Buy Nothing group, a few sold at garage/craft sales, but if I'm honest a lot have simply been thrown away. The only "negative" thing I would say to you, Tiffany, is own it. You apologize way too much! You weren't telling all of us to throw these things out and you weren't trashing the products, many of which are wonderful and you clearly state that. I hate that as women we all too often feel the need to apologize for sharing our truth! So my one piece of advice to you is step up and own your opinion after all it belongs to you! I guess I have one other piece of advice ... I read your comment about not being ready to part with any of these things. As your fellow pot/kettle and collector, I get it, but I encourage you to try and let go of something. It's the one thing I've been working on for the past year! I have supplies that I've stubbornly kept because, "I might use/need it one day". Without exception, I have never had that happen and I've been saying this since 2001 (my first cross country move after taking up crafting in 1997). I put stamp and die sets in an annual craft sale I participate in last summer - everything retired so I wouldn't easily be able to replace it - and I have not missed one item I sold. It was terribly empowering and I'm excited for the sale this June so I can pass along some things that I didn't think I could live without but have found that I don't miss in the slightest. So, stop apologizing so much and maybe try to let go of one thing ... this pot's 2 cents! Oh, and a BIG thank you for holding the mirror up in such a direct and honest way. I just stumbled on your video through a YT recommendation and I'm so happy I spent 20 minutes with you today! I'm going to watch a few more (I always do before subscribing) but I think you've added another follower! Cheers!

Once a year my friend hold a crop as a fundraiser for local hospice. Part of the crop is a “yard sale” table of random things where you can browse and you just pay what you think is fair. I often go through my inventory and put things on the table that I don’t use anymore like old stamps, embellishments, paper, and ephemera. If anyone wants to get rid of items but not throw them away, you can send it to me and I’d be glad to add it to the table. All money generated goes to hospice.

One more thing that I hardly use is the Tim Holtz stamp platform, with its separate carrying case. I loved the idea of reinking your stamp and having it hit the same place the second or third time, but as I'm not a card maker I hardly ever use it. I quickly bought it before they became unavailable due to the lawsuit over it, and I think that prompted me to buy it, rather than thinking through if I'd really get my money's worth out of it (I like the earlier comment about asking yourself if you're going to use it at least 3 times, that way it's not a one time impulse buy). I tried using it with my mixed media journals when I was stamping an image, but naturally they're way too bulky to fit into it, and the stamp never did hit the same place twice, so that didn't last long. Thanks for doing this video! These types of video are super helpful to those who are new and starting out building up their supplies. That was the thing that overwhelmed me the most in the beginning, not wondering if I had the skill/talent, but not being sure of what I needed to have for supplies. Everywhere I looked I was seeing different supplies being used, and I overspent on items I hardly use or came to realize I would never use. But then again there is a learning curve and determining what you, as a person, really enjoy doing. There's so many different types of arts/crafts out there, how do you know if you don't try? So there is that part to it, if you don't do something, you can't find out if it's really what you enjoy doing. Lately I've been doing watercolors, and I was sure in the beginning that I wouldn't enjoy it, but I did quite a few Christmas themed pages, and I'm finding I love watercolors. And even there I've found that having a good quality paper and brushes makes a big difference, so, again, even a learning curve when you're doing something you find you really enjoy. This type of video is great, and I'm sure that you're helping people become more focused on what they want to spend their hard earned money on. BTW, Happy New Year :-)

They find a video, usually on a subject that is unrelated to them, thinks that what the poster did was stupid, and add their own comment just to stroke their own ego. They are miserable, unhappy people. In the meantime, if there are any products you care to unload, I am sure a local rec center, senior center, or school will take them. I could also take them off your hands too, I am always will to try new products in my projects.

I'm glad that I'm not the only person who have bought stuff they don't use. I sometimes see other card makers use the products and I want it. I went through my stamps and stuff and donated it. Thanks for sharing.

I literally wasted my money on all the items you showed some exact and some very similar. I feel bad that you were so worried to share but glad you did because I can totally relate. I learned a lot of costly lessons the past two years thinking things would help my creativity but I know now that if you don’t use it your just collecting stuff. Luckily I have realized what I do enjoy creatively and it requires a lot less of this stuff.

Variety is the spice of life in the studio. You could make it a goal to use them more of donate them to a school art class as a tax write off. I have many of those products and I do not use them as often as I thought and have donated some of them to my grandkids. Sometimes I go shopping in my own studio and rediscover products I had forgotten. It takes many, many years for products to dry up and there are many ways to reconstitute them. You don't need to apologize for how you feel about something you have spent your hard earned money on. It doesn't matter what other people think.

LOL Wow, I thought I was the only one with buyers remorse. I love everything I buy but don't always use them. So, I understand just how you feel.

I appreciate your point of view. We all lean towards different supplies when we craft so no apology is needed. I've been paper crafting for only 2 years and I think I bought too much too soon lol. I've got some supplies I can't figure out how to use or never think to use. I enjoyed your video

Thank you for making this video, I understand what you say, you want the full set. Omg I have sets or organization planners, i don't use. You have this channel and can do destashes, but that is work in itself. I think your not alone in the thought of getting the stuff and than not using it. We all have been there, thanks for sharing.

great video. I am sure that if we are all honest there would be lots of items we bought and don't use. I got rid of stamps and inks that I did not use a little while ago. Yesterday I rearranged and cleaned out more products in my craft room that I don' use- washi taper and stickers.

I have so much crafting stuff that I could open a shop! The thing that gets me all the time is paper! I have card stock and tons of printed papers. I recently bought a whole bunch of alcohol markers which I now realize I don’t need - I have lots of markers already and mostly color with pencils!

I'm a scrapper/project life/wreath maker/floral designer/thrift store rehabber/jewelry maker/cross stitcher/diy..etc. Needless to say I have had allot of crap I never use. I end up donating them to organizations, give them to my fellow craftee family members/friends/ take them to crops to exchange with other scrappers, or I sell them when I attend festivals as a vendor or put together a basket for a giveaway in order to get their emails.

Tiffany we all have items in our stash that we wish we didn't buy because it's out of sight and out of mind or we just wanna finish the project that's supposed to be cute/pretty and quick. Please do not feel bad at all, part of being artistic, is doing and using what makes you happy as an artist. Embrace it and keep on keeping on love. Thanks for showing because I haven't picked up my distress sprays in a few yrs lol.

I think as crafters you have to figure out what kind of card maker you are and what works for someone else may not work for you. I have purchased so many things I wish I hadn't because it just sits on a shelf or lies in a box. You are entitled to your opinion don't worry about the "haters" just keep making your videos and be honest and true to yourself. Your real fans will keep watching.

I know this feeling, I have products that I never use but thought I had to have. The Distress Oxide sprays and inks I keep thinking that I should buy but for some reason when I see them I hesitate and you have just made me realize that I really don't need them as I won't probably use them. Thanks for the video. Jeanette, New Zealand.

I agree, I have done so many impulse buys because of liking demonstrations, I thought I would use them for projects or impulse and now I’m regretting some of the things I have bought. I need to either sell them or give them away.

Don't feel bad. I think we've all purchased something we might not use often are all. I know I hv. Rt now I'm cleaning my craft room and sorting out those barely used things and deciding on whether to keep them or not. Thanks for this video

I agree with your choices. You can cover the small paper pack cards and make journal cards with them. The sprays are nice but I don't use them as often either. I use the stamp pads and re-inker more

Wow!! I agree with everything you commented about - I've spent SO much money on things I never use. I really appreciate your honesty. Everything always looks so great on the process videos - but my follow through is very lacking!! I finally learned ephemera, stickers, printables and washitape are my best tools and I really wish the kit developers would make stamps sets optional - I rarely use them. Thanks for helping me to have a little backbone and realize I DO NOT NEED EVERYTHING!!

I believe everyone buys products that they think they will use and love and then they find out it’s something they really don’t care for. Whether you try again to use them or find another home for them by either selling or donating- I wish you happy arting.

I am so sorry that you have things that you don't like/use....I have done the same thing. When I gather several things that I don't use I gift them to my crafty friends....what they do with them I don't care or know, lol. I feel good about giving them stuff they don't have and they feel good because they get stuff they didn't have...win, win!!! Lol

your honesty is nothing to fear. there are people out there who need to see this because they buy out of impulse and trends. money wasted. here’s how i controlled my impulse. things i wanted i wrote down on paper with cost and the store name. i waited at least a month to which i allowed for me to think about the function and need. i also think of invest, environmental concerns, and finding it cheaper. if this item doesnt haunt in that month, it demonstrates that it wasnt needed. when i go back on the list, i have to be honest and knock it off. some times i leave it on for another month. i also eatablish a budget to which i save for it or put an emphasis on it by redistributing my funds for it. for example, if i want a shoe the money for that will be channeled to the craft budget. i lose something out of getting something else. this allows me to make the best judgment. its taught me to be smart about what i purchase. i used to buy things at random because they were featured and they ended not being used. the environment thing has been my emphasis because i think about the environmental impact and its toxicity to our planet. so much waste because of a hobby doesnt cut it no more.

I loved this video Tiffany. Don't apologize - at least you tried the items you bought. I can't tell you how many supplies I have that are still in the packaging. Tons. I think I have that "I have to have it all disease". I had to laugh about the planners. I had purchased one and found it so depressing to realize just how boring my life is. Seriously. I was looking for things to write in it. So very sad. I'm with you on the animal stamps. I've decided that those are for people who do a lot of copic coloring and send cards to children. I actually got to the point where I was buying container storage to organize the things I don't use, and I realized there's something wrong with me. I'm on a first name basis with my UPS delivery guy, who I told not to deliver the packages if he sees my husband's truck in the driveway. Yeah, it's a sickness. lol

Hehe, thank you for the video! I liked finding out what others regret buying (and was glad not to own most of what you have regrets about, sorry 😁). I agree with your opinion on Avery Elle Liquid Watercolors - they are very diluted and luckily I just have two of the colors. Prima Watercolor Paper would be another one - I am using it up, but it doesn’t really work for me, just absorbs the water much too quickly. I hope making this video wasn’t too depressing for you - I know I’d be a bit frustrated seeing all the products I bought with my hard-earned money that I just don’t use. Maybe a tip re the dies: I always keep coordinating dies in the back of the same pocket (sturdy plastic envelope, such as a passport sleeve) that I keep the stamp set in. This way, it’s not any extra effort to find the correct dies to cut out my flower or other image. So I use my coordinating dies all the time, would never choose fussy cutting over die-cutting if I had the choice 🙂 And re the scene-builder dies: some can be used for non-scene-cards, e.g. I have the Lawn Fawn clouds as well, but use them as a shape on baby cards and often sew them on for instance. 🧵✂️ Xoxo - a fellow collector 😁

I am new to paper crafting and supplies are not cheap. There are so many things I have seen in videos I had to have and then was sorry I spent the money on. No problem with you making it ok for all of us to admit we don't love everything we purchase.
@connieheitz89824 жыл бұрын
Not everyone will do things or use things like someone else. Just because I like something doesn't mean you will like it and vise versa. I liked the video cause I buy things before thinking it through as to how often I will use it. I work at Tuesday Morning and every so often we get 40 percent off so I buy a bunch of stuff and it sits. Thanks for sharing!!!

Tiffany, you are not alone. I gasped when you put out the distress oxide sprays because I also bought every set and have only used a few a handful of times. I also bought the Pearl inks but have used these quite a bit, I use them on Translucent Yupo paper through a stencil. I place a stencil on the yupo paper then squirt color over these. Let dry then remove the stencil. There probably will be wet areas after you remove the stencil so set aside until the rest dries. Thank you for your honest opinion, there are so many products on the market, and a lot of duplication.

I think it is brilliant and brave to admit when you do not find use for a product- as crafters we know it happens to all of us and it is refreshing to hear honesty- so many videos are more about getting people to buy and buy,( there are some very good enablers out there in the craft world!). We forget what we have in order to get that latest stamp etc and do not stop to reflect on what we really need. As you say, none of the products are wrong, they just do not fit with how you craft. If I sat down to do something like this I think I would come up with at least one forth of my stash not being used at all for many years...! I did a purge of my stamps some months ago- loving so many of them but never using them. So I am putting more and more of my things into bins that says Sell or Give Away- what I do not longer use can well be another crafters treasure. I have tons of patterned paper from my scrapbooking days that at least cost me 1000 dollars in all- either cry over spillt milk or remember the joy I had buying them, and also get them into work to refund some of that money by using them in craft I sell at Christmas fairs. Now everything I buy, and I still buy too much, has to be useful for the things I am going to sell- like Christmas cards or my collage papier maché animals or other artwork.

I think a lot of us have regrets about craft things we buy. I am so guilty of Impulse buys because someone used it and I loved the project only to buy the item and it just sits there gathering dust. I have lots of things I regret buying, most notably the tim holtz glass mat and multiple companies ink pads, I never use any of them. Refreshing to see that I'm not alone
