I belong to a church sewing group and we struggled with material scraps. Our solution is to make a very large, durable square pillowcase . With an opening we fill with material scraps stitch it shut and it becomes a dog bed. It has become a game changer.

I love your ideas. I just finished 15 Photo Albums for 3 nephews, 3 children and 9 grandchildren with pictures from 5 generations. I started in Sept. 2019 and just delivered the last three on Easter 2021. It really was a labor of love, but now I am excited about your videos and want to declutter my house. I'm going to be 82 on April 21 and would like to be stress free for my next 20-30 years. Lol My husband is in a Nursing Home and I hadn't been able to have a hug or kiss for a year, as they locked down on March 13, 2020 and our 62nd Wedding Anniversary was March 12, 2020. It has been a trying year, but with my Photo Album project I was not a basket case as some of my friends have been. The the Good Lord for putting the idea in my head to do this. I so enjoy your videos. Thank you so much!!!

idk why i thought this was a brand new video. i didn’t even get too far in the video when you were talking about the over the door shoe organizers and other ways to organize yarn. i stopped and ran into my “craft room” 😂 and pulled my yarn out of my plastic drawer to throw in the shoe organizer. woot woot!! this was a huge win. The only problem is my needles, magazines and books. i like to keep all my crafting likes together. i’ll figure it out.
@TheCraftyOrganizer
@TheCraftyOrganizer 3 жыл бұрын
Do you have shelves??? Magazine holders would be great for the magazines (Ha ha... guess the name gives it away) But, if you use empty TP tubes or paper towel tubes, you could fit them into the magazine holder as well, and organize your needles! The books can then be displayed more artistically around the magazine holders hiding the amazing organized supplies inside! I have all kinds of unconventional things stored in mine! :)

I have an older file folder rack made of plastic. I have 5 or 6 paper trimmers in it including my old CM cutting system. It works great. They are not heavy like yours, but the rack is not terribly strong. So your idea of an adjustable sturdy one sounds perfect. I know I'm responding to an old post but wanted to share. This idea came to me as I was repurposing old office supplies, and finding solutions for storing scrapbooking supplies.

Love the cookie sheet idea for works-in-progress! What I use is zipper-style baggies. If I have large-scale (as in number, not size) card projects I need to organize, I can just use sandwich zipper baggies to put in panels & smaller bits, so everything for a particular design is grouped. I can always put those in larger baggies if I have several smaller ones to keep track of, just to keep everything in one place. In fact, I'm currently working on an order for 144 cards in various designs & color combos, so that is proving very helpful! For scrapbooking, I discovered 2.5-gallon zipper baggies. I got some at Wal Mart initially, but then discovered Dollar Tree also sells them, too, just in smaller quantity boxes. Each bag can hold several sheets of 12x12" paper/cardstock, and I can add photos, ephemera, etc., in with the paper. I have several of the Cropper Hopper 12x12 plastic containers for paper storage. I used to stick my papers in those--sorted by color--and call it a day. Then I discovered silverfish in amongst some of my papers! So I got several of the 2.5 gallon baggies, and put as much paper as I could in them before adding them back to my Cropper Hopper organizers. I leave the bags slightly open, just so air can get in & the paper won't mildew, and so far it seems to be working great! And they are sturdy enough to reuse--and easy to fold flat & store--when I finish a project. Anyway, thank you for all the suggestions in your videos. I recently discovered you, and subscribed. I hope you are doing well. Take care, & have an awesome day! :)

for #4, I had been using the sorter for my 2 fave paper cutters (a rotary trimmer & A5 size guillotine), but the sorter was not in my 'bullseyes' zone. I would have to turn/swivel and scoot my chair over too often. SO I moved the 2 cutters to the FLOOR at my left foot and leaning against the leg of my craft/banquet table. SO much easier. But I still do use the sorter in the original location for other tools. I also use sorters on top of my book shelf for A4+ size paper pads or to display WIP art/junk journals. In the cutting/ironing zone, I use a sorter that I duct taped on top of a stackable rack (THe Container Store) for quilting rulers. Rack is also duct taped to the far left corner of my giant cutting mat. I also store seldom used quilting rulers on 'S' hooks hanging in holes on the risers of my industrial/metal shelves in the cutting/ironing zone. I tied thin ribbon, twine or string to tie a loop in the hole of the ruler. Then hung the twine on the hook. This was a hack because the rulers were too thick to just hang on the 'S' hooks. Love my industrial shelving, some that I inherited 50 years ago from my grandfather's library. I use it all over the house, not just for crafting... love your channel!!!

I bought a few of the scrapbook cases (?13x13?) from Michaels when they were 50% off. I labeled them "Project 1, Project 2," etc. Since they are clear, it's easy to see what's inside. Storing works in process. I just had an idea based on one of your videos I watch earlier. If I have a necklace laid out on a bead design board and have to set it aside for a while, I used to slide them into a two gallon zip-top bag. But it dawned on me that I could wrap it in press & seal wrap which would hold the design more securely. I can't wait to try it.

Love the idea of the foam board for sorting yarn, plus it's pretty to look at! Also like the cookie sheets for storage - there's also the larger aluminum ones that maybe could be used for lighter, bulkier items, but same idea. Very insightful to take note of the things that don't get put away as a tip-off that there has to be better organization. As a child, I was just told that I was "lazy", but now I can know that I just have to organize things differently.

Sorry your family has had health issues. Hope all is well. Life happens when we're doing other things. You have such a pleasing voice, you're very easy to listen to. I'm a new subscriber & want to watch all your videos. This is the 2nd one. My daughter is the best organizer ever. Unfortunately she lives over 1000 miles away. She did come to help me pack & she came to give me a start on getting settled in. God bless you and your family. 💞

Norrine, thank you for the new ideas. I am always working on multiple projects too I put them on trays @ 14" x 10" then store it in the garage with plastic over it. I first make the 20 cards/wk and cut them, then I put them in on a tray in the garage while I work on the next project. I get bored working on the same project so I have to go to the next to keep interested. But it works really well for me. Then 1 day a week I finish one project and put everything for that away. On to the next, since I make so many cards I only have time to usually do 1 other project a month which goes on a tray too. I also put my flowers in a big straw container and store on tip top shelves of my bedroom and craft room shelves because I only use them seasonally. I am glad to see you are feeling better you mean so much to all of us, especially me. Thank you for all your time and expertise I can see you are an incredible organizer. Have you ever worked for one of those companies that organize people you would be PERFECT!

Some great suggestions! I have a medium sized craft room.... I refer to it as organized clutter or my craft goodies on display! I organize everything! I have learned..... (might just be related to age! But, frustrating none the less!) transparent bins are the bomb! & modular! A plus! I have always loved boxes & containers..... but, with age comes memory challenges! Sometimes you can’t remember why you went into a room.... others can’t remember where you put the item you used yesterday! I’ve switched 95% of my considerable craft storage to transparent modular bins, categorized of course! I don’t spend time searching for things! Most have fun labels, but a few are still “under-consideration “ ..... I don’t think there’s a craft I haven’t met and loved.... I do it all for fun and personal satisfaction.... some items are gifted, some are kept.... some are deemed unworthy and stripped for a 2nd try! I have 2 PhD bins.... (projects half done) one for craft - one for handwork... projects inside are bagged accordingly. My supplies are great in number/quantity! I love finding things & receiving from family little gifts “we saw this, it was so cool, knew you’d make something great with it!” Items. I have stuff (not purchased!) from years ago! When the moment comes that it’s used.... I love it! I’m sad when I’m thinking of using something .... go to retrieve it and it’s no longer there... sad I gave up and purged it! I’ve put Cricut Maker & Silhouette Cameo3 away, cleared my ironing table..... switching to sewing for a while! Grandson getting married.... Papa needs a vest & Gramma needs a dress! I love being flexible in this way! Everything has a place.... and everything in its place when not in use! When I’m ready to return to something.... put everything I was doing away and switch gears for new arena of fun!

If I create a favorite background then I make a sheet of it into an envelope using brads which I store within. It then hangs from a favorite trim--usually antique lace:) That way I can see examples of all my brads, examples of backgrounds, and I enjoy the beauty of the lace every time I craft:)

I use ikea dvd towers to store me stamps in stamp pockets, not the expensive Avery Elle ones. I bought some from a business supply store without the annoying flap closures. I have another one of those shelves laid on it’s side on my desk for all my markers. I hot glued the shelves to the pins so they don’t move. I use a metal napkin holder for all my die cutting machine platforms and plates. In the past I’ve stored my stamps in A5 binders and after that I made my own stamp pockets from the A5 page holders and clipped them to a spinning shoe holder using ikea curtain clips. I loved that one before my hands hurt too much to take the clips off.

Thank you for showing pictures of various organizational supplies and examples of how they are used. These visuals stick in my mind longer. Thank you, too, for sharing the place where supplies can be donated. Our community has a craft exchange where we can donate our excess items...and buy new-to-us crafting supplies very cheaply. It makes it so much easier for me to purge my stash when I know someone else can benefit from them. Plus...teachers are allowed to "shop" free-of-charge.

Tulle (bridal veil netting) makes a great dust cover for craft supplies. It's lightweight so it won't crush down florals or other delicate items, comes in pretty colors, and it's pretty easy to see through. If you use an elastic band or ponytail holder to hold a piece of tulle or a piece of pantyhose (or a knee high stocking) over the end nozzle or dust brush on your vacuum cleaner hose, you can vacuum the dust off the tulle without sucking it up or having to remove and wash the tulle. Covering the end of the hose makes it easy to vacuum up dust in drawers and containers full of tiny or delicate objects without sucking up the tiny things, too. Of course, it's a good idea to wash your tulle covers once a year to keep them clean even if you vacuum them once a week or monthly. Just put in soapy water and swish. Swish through clean rinse water and roll in a towel to absorb excess water. You can hang outside to dry or run it through the dryer on air fluff or low.

So many great ideas, thank you! I am currently in the process of reorganizing my own craft room, which is a small attic room with a sloped ceiling. It's not easy fitting anything in here, especially on a very low budget, but I love the challenge of making the space work perfectly for me. I also try to make as much I can myself, both shelves and storage containers, so here's a few tips: Any store that sells shoes are usually very happy to give away empty cardboard shoe boxes for free - I've gotten tons of them in local shops. They are sturdy, comes in all kinds of sizes and you can easily make them really pretty by painting them or just adhering patterned papers. Cardboard tubes and cylinders (even empty tape rolls!) make great boxes if you shine them up a bit (I usually use patterned papers); you can cut them to size and make lids, or just use as a vase or pen holder as it is. If they're too light, just put some rocks in it and make an extra bottom over them. I also save all my glass jam jars, just clean them and put some pretty paper around them to disguise labels that won't come off. I'm a librarian and I get tons of cardboard tubes from the trash at work, as well as an endless supply of old book covers to remake as boxes. Most libraries don't mind one bit if you ask to get some books they've just thrown away. Most of the furniture in my craft room is from second hand shops, where you really can get great stuff for almost nothing - a few even from the local recycling yard, where they have a room where people can leave things in good shape they don't need anymore, so that someone else can take it home. All for free. Even the shelves and things I have bought from stores have extra compartments that I made myself by cutting up useable pieces from broken furniture and made new shelves with. For instance my work table is the top of an old kitchen table laid across cheap shelving units with some extra home made shelves. (Oh, and for stamps I use small magazine holders; I put all my stamp sets in equal size zip bags, with a paper card as a backing, and they fit perfectly. Dies I keep in a binder, stored in photo protector cases with different sized pockets.) Oh dear, this message grew very long very fast - sorry about that! Here's some pictures of the boxes and things I mentioned, if you're interested: facebook.com/charliethebookbinder/photos_all (This is under my original, non-anglizised name and most of the posts are in Norwegian, but if you have questions, just ask.)

Welcome back! So much great advice on this new video. Just after becoming a single mom of two teenage boys, I turned a bedroom into my office-studio. I planned out what I wanted in the room and ordered the cabinets that arrived the day before the contractor was to install them, only to be told that I had to assemble all of them before he arrived early in the morning! Three besties came to my rescue and girl power got them finished on time, whew! Thanks to your videos I’ve used quite a few of your suggestions to purge and organize my craft supplies. I’ve also begun volunteering at our city’s reuse/recycle crafting supply store where donated items go to live once again. I can relate to your medical misadventures with your offspring! Oh the stories we could tell! Praying for provision and protection and peace for you. Can’t wait for your next video.

For WIPs, I toss each into it's own Hefty zip lock bag (2.5 gallons). Toss several Hefty bags into a small cardboard Bankers Box. Bankers box is on a shelf of my metal industrial shelving unit (bought cheap from neighbors who are moving) - far from my primary work table. Your cookie sheets are a great idea - but the Hefty bags are better for my work style. Your tips are great. I love plastic shoeboxes too. I use pot lid racks, too - mostly to store my journals, canvas board and large watercolor paper pads on top shelf of 2nd shelving unit, in corner furthest from my primary work table. My craft studio doubles as my music room - the far wall house my upright piano, for practicing and composing. It's been a challenge to work around such a huge piece of heavy furniture - but I did it.
