Actually it's a cool idea that'd I more likely use to play PS5 or XSX when the TV is being used. But for $350? Nah.
@RETR0_P0CKET Жыл бұрын
I guess I’m the one weirdo this is made for. I play my PC games on a Retroid Pocket 3+. I hate sitting at a desk to play games so I never played PC games until I got the RP3+. I would just play a handheld like the Switch Lite in bed. Now when I game at night before bed I can also play my PC games on a handheld just 5 feet from my PC. It would be an even better experience with this. Something like the Steam Deck requires you to play at 720p low at 30-40 fps.
@greenprotag Жыл бұрын
You hit the nail on the head. EVERYTHING (phone, tablet, Chromebook, laptop, etc.) that can run a streaming app and pair a controller can do this along with its original intended function. For less than $300, I would look at the Retroid Pocket 3+ or the AYN Odin and add your appropriate app. For more than $350 I would look at the steam deck, the ROG ally, or a used laptop. If this device landed in my lap for any reason, I would connect it to my home theater PC and when the family wants to use the smart function of the TV, I would turn this on, connect to my HTPC, and continue to surf/ game. Basically what the original WiiU had in mind for it's paddle as an optional main screen or dual screen hybrid with limited range.

I personally like My own little theory that this was created while people needed a way to test their handheld platforms and optimize for the portable experience as developers way earlier on than the steam deck.

The line of sight thing is the real killer. Otherwise there are several uses I can think of. But if just walking by it will kill the connection, it's near worthless.

I'm almost sure the 4ms spec they mention is for the display's pixel response time, not for the signal latency

A nearly lag-free wireless monitor would be GREAT for a few applications. I'd pick up the monitor itself to have a monitor right by my bed for movies or playing a console if it could reach from my livingroom to my bedroom. Although at that point I could just run a wire.
@Ferzin400 Жыл бұрын
Movies? Consider a tablet. And streaming your living room console to your bedroom i would rather consider a logitech g cloud. Works in the cloud, can also do some local streaming i think and it doesnt have the limitations of the 60ghz, but still comes with its own flaws of course.
@TheNumbersPerson Жыл бұрын
@@Ferzin400 Given that the only tablet that's a solid choice is an iPad and I REALLY don't want to give Apple my money, I'd rather get another laptop than do that. I also never trust anything that uses the cloud buzzword since that's just me sending all my data that should be local to a server in gods know where when I'd much rather have my own solution and experience setting it up.

I have to wonder if this is actually some sort of promotion of the mmWave tech more than a gaming product. Send this out for 'review' to gaming/tech channels that normally wouldn't review wireless monitors to get in front of more eyeballs, and the reviewers might understand the usefulness in video production and speak to that as bonus.

Hard pass...... for gaming For a wireless display without joycons? $250-$300? Sure, What i'd actually prefer for this price is something like the NREAL Air, but with a battery, so i can wear these and connect the HDMI dongle to my camera. Would i prefer my A7iv to just output video over the USB-C port? Yes Are they going to do it? No

Your wife wants to watch K-Dramas cuddling on the couch, you want to Play Elden Ring. The console is in line of sight of the couch. You get to cuddle in the same space doing different things. Then the cat walks by causing you to lose your runes... Surprised you didn't bring up the AR glasses as a potentially similar use case, considering you can plug them into a wireless adapter and consoles use wireless controllers.

This is actually pretty cool and way better than the stupid cloud devices. The big draw here is clearly console compatibility. Looks like a mess of a device, but very cool idea. If it could compatible with the Wii U and pretend to be Wii U controller, that would be even more impressive, since the controller for Wii U is more expensive than the console now. NTSC is better than DCI-P3 TBQH.
@donovan6320 Жыл бұрын
The cloud devices make more sense, The problem with console compatibility is that: A the controllers need to be compatible to which they are joycons, so other than PC and switch they really won't be compatible. Not to mention, the poor penetration of 60 gigahertz millimeter wave stuff is so poor, you will need to actually be on your couch anyway.

Payment for a review can come in many forms, money, goods or services. You were paid for this review in goods. Those goods have a value and that is the value you would need to put down on your tax return to the IRS as taxable income if doing it as a private youtuber, if it was sent to a business then the rules are different of course.
