Season 3 will very likely begin with the Battle of the Gullet.
@MyUniqueVibe3 ай бұрын
They planned to end the season with the Battle of the Gullet, but HBO, I think, forced them into pushing it back to season 3. :/ I'm not sure how much power the show runners had at that point, and it shows in the finale. It feels more like an episode 8 of a 10 episode season, which it would have been had they not been forced to push back the aforementioned battle. Then again, perhaps the budget was too much, and I would rather wait for a a proper battle than one where we don't see the dragons and ship battling.
@YamatoTre3 ай бұрын
An extra battle wouldn't have fixed this. They've thrown consistent characterization out the window. Season 1 had only one battle, and one dragon "fight" if you could call it that. Yet it was infinitely better than this Season. Why?
@darthlouise3 ай бұрын
Either budget or schedule. It really does show and it sucks those two episodes were moved to season 3. It felt kinda anticlimactic (don't get me wrong the score and the ending gave me chills) because we're not left with much to ponder between the seasons ie is this character alive, what will happen now this character is dead. We also still haven't had a scene of rhaneyra talking to aegon, and I don't think we will until the end of the dance :(
@ft.jackjimmy72823 ай бұрын
@@YamatoTre it wouldn't be game of thrones without the character flaws and inconsistencies. Rhaenyra did not want to fight and plead with Alicent to stop but Alicent refused thus forcing Rhaenyra to start preparing her dragons and armies for battle, but right when Rhaenyra is about to fight Alicent come to ask her to stop. So yes, the show runners pointed this out, she has that choice to stop again but if she is smart, she knows the opposing army is on the march too, her gaining more dragons is not a deed that had gone unnoticed by her enemies. I'm sure now history will remember her as a queen that started the war by claiming more dragons when in reality she didn't want this war to begin with.

@@YamatoTre Because people are too tiktokbrained now and can't handle shows taking their time to build up for big events. No doubt people would be calling first seasons of GOT slow and boring if they came out today. Then have the audacity to complain about lack of episodes as if more episodes building the war wouldn't make them complain that much more. It seems like people just want action and battles and forget the whole thing that made them so good in GOT. Go watch it, you'll discover that it's not battle after battle every other episode, it even skips many if not most of them like all Robb's battles (even the one where Jaime is captured), Tyrion's first battle to name a few, only one big battle per season. As an avid hater of season 8 of GOT, it truly amazes and honestly irritates me to no end how people have problem with slow build and development when they previously complained about rushed ending and loose ends and abandoned development, and plots. People complained about Season 1 too, why? *Because it was "rushed".* How are they to write a show well received when even the fans don't know what they want?

I liked the season but I really feel like they’ve shot themselves in the foot by shortening the season. Battle of Rook’s Rest was awesome! The special fx is 🔥 but I thought we would see more than one battle this season. The way this season ended there are so many battle that should happen in season 3, their budget is going to be insane. Makes me worry they’ll pull a Battle of the Burning Mill and we’ll only see the aftermath of a few significant events. Season 3 needs to go back to 10 episodes imo. “The city is yours, Princess. But you will not hold it long. The rats play when the cat is gone, but my son Aemond will return with fire and blood.” Alicent loves her sons and halaena, despite them making the choice for her to not show comfort to Aegon when his son dies. She proves time and time again that she is willing to defend her children with her own BODY. She would never give up their positions and put them in danger for a friendship that ended decades ago. They killed Alicent and Aemond's relationship, she was the only one who defended him when he lost his eye. Not even Viserys did. Aemond was an interesting character, forced to deal with the reality that he could possibly be better for the throne than his older brother (in season 1) who bullies and undermines him. He is the most methodical and calculated person on team green besides otto and he is their biggest mental and physical advantage against rhaenyra, but they turned him into a one-note villain (basically s1 Daemon) who only wants the throne and power; where they could have developed Aemond into a fierce protector of his family (who ends up dying for this cause), they gave him the mad targ big bad wolf storyline...to prove that he's worse than Aegon?? why? the appeal of Aemond was that he was a foil to s1 Aegon (who is not invested in the idea of ruling at this point) but he cares for his family. No one is supposed to be wholly good or bad in this show, but its clear that the main characters (not just alicent and rhaenyra) were meant to have redeeming qualities and I think that's forgotten, every character does questionable things (i.e. people stand by rhaenyra but so many people die because of her inability to take action; she doesn't even admit to Rhaenys that her son, her only living child, is actually alive, she just kills someone random then marries Daemon infront of their four kids who have all lost a parent, Harwin and Laena).

Melinda Massey is wearing a red cloak just for the trailer to make us think there will be a red priestess in the show. -Cinematography is great, but I miss the vibrant colors of the original first 4 Got seasons. Please more natural vibrant colors while outdoor. -The GoT has so many scenes were multiple things happen: Tywin scolding his children, planning future war moves, great dialogue while writing the letter to the Freys. HoT should have more of this. -I do understand that there was a budgetary limit and had to make do. Writers guild strike might have affected the plot, but for those who don't know, for every Matt Smith or any other actor paid millions, there are thousands of people who work in the background to create shows who barely can make ends meet. Everybody deserves to have a reasonable salary and sustain their family.

you forget this is how actual tv shows work and have always worked...and not clips you watch on tik Tok or binge on Netflix, be so fr they still have to create the next season especially since it will be a lot of battles. y'all seriously need some patience and respect for the people working on these massive productions that take so many moving parts, it can't be done in a day.

This is what happens when HBO cuts 10 episode season down to 8. We're just stuck with episode 8 of 10 as the season finale. Second worst season finale after GoT Season 8

To be a little probably insignificant light in the sea of some negativity I want to say thank you to the bts crew, they make incredible sets and spend so much time and effort on these things and even find beautiful locations to shoot at/in. Yes it their job and yes they are getting paid but they are still taking time out of their lives to give people a beautiful show. Also hbo/crew of HOTD when you come back for season 3 please make these videos again it's so interesting. Also thanks to all the actors that have acted their hearts out in this show, some of them really came into the spotlight that we didn't get to see last season and we got to meet some awesome new actors and characters this season. Even though I too was a little disappointed that we didn't get a truly crazy finale, I stepped back and remembered many cliffhangers I had dealt with while watching another great show The Walking Dead, and those ones just made me more excited for the next season once I got over the surprise of a cliffhanger. So I'm excited for season 3 of House of the Dragon.

@@cosmicknight4665 the blacks are finally consolidated, you can see all the story pieces falling into place and the armies in their many factions are ready to converge. idk your knowledge of the books but if we had tried to squeeze the gullet in with magically teleporting triarchy ships knowing how that ends with a moment similar to the s1 finale, i think its better to save this big epic moment for all involved for s3. 🤷♀️ edit - fixed some grammar
@tatra-773 ай бұрын
@@kdjslvgds Fully agreed. Ending both S01 & S02 with similar losses (Storm's End & the Gullet) would likely have felt repetitive. Hopefully, moving the Gullet to S03 will allow the story some space to breath and the audience fully experience its aftermath without another two year gap. Also, we can thank the old gods and the new that these writers are (as yet) avoiding the magic teleportation of latter GoT seasons. Dragons may move quickly, but soldiers? Not so much.
@FrenzyVidzHD3 ай бұрын
@@kdjslvgds agreed also - S1 ending you see Green grow in power, and what people forget because Blacks simply had a lot more dragons is that they had literally nothing else to fight back with, a big factor in how they suffered a key dragon die. S2 is all about the Blacks recovering whilst under attack. People calling it a trailer for Season 3, its like saying GoT seasons 1-7 was a trailer for S8... like yeah... of course its meant to make you want to watch the next season?! lol (not that I'm a big fan in how the did S8... but you get my metaphoric point! lol)

HBO should fire whoever made the call that this season should be 8 episodes. Honestly, it really weakened the season, and although this episode was good, I think it was the weakest episode of HotD so far (a testament to the show, really). Let the people who make good stuff make good stuff! If they had knocked it out of the park on this season I think it would have got more folks watching next season. After HBO’s hamstringing them, I’m not sure how much growth there will be. I hope lots, but I don’t know.

A viewer could literally go from S2 ep. 7 to S3 without missing anything important. This was the most unsatisfying episode of the entire season, and here's why. Overall, the show builds up to "final" moments that should have been the starting scenes of the episode because they were all things the show already spent the entire season building up to. There are exactly 3 conversations that actually moved the story forward. Most of it felt totally unearned, and worst of all were the contrived conflicts that were overplayed to replace meaningful interactions *(ex. Jacerys and Ulf)* or just didn't fit with the story. Other things happened out of nowhere but did nothing for the story, like *Alys Rivers* sitting on Daemon's bed when they've never been like that before now. The rest was padding the runtime so the writers wouldn't have to actually resolve any storylines *(like the brothers Hull and Corlys Velaryon)* or spend any money until season 3. There's a difference between "slow burn" and "buying time so we don't have to spend money." Ep. 8 was the latter. Even when the tension was valid the arguments were overly heavy-handed, as if the writers were trying to lump multiple off-screen interactions into one on-screen conversation in order to justify a future reaction between the characters (ex. "Ulf betrays the blacks all because Jacerys was so rude to him that one time!") or service casual viewers by overexplaining. The result of these tactics is that literally all of seasons 3 and 4 could happen without us knowing anything in this episode and nothing would be missing. It was pretty much all just filler of some form or another. In *Helaena's arc,* they just skip over a whole bunch of steps. This whole time she's been blabbing her dragon dreams half out loud, half to herself without any indication of understanding them. In book canon this is largely how dragon dreams work; difficult to interpret and often just huge info dumps with no context. Dragon dreams also have absolutely nothing to do with weirwood magic at all. So not only is it a departure from Helaena's story to suddenly understand and know all about what's going to happen at the God's Eye, but why would she have gone that entire time knowing Aemond tried to murder her brother-husband and have said nothing? Worst of all was the writers stuffing Helaena conveniently into *Daemon's weirwood dream* trying to connect two disparate forms of magic as either a plot device or just outright fan service to move the story forward by explaining rather than showing. Even the weirwood dream itself was done on the cheap, ex. why would they show that one random white walker from the trailers instead of a horde of them or the night king? One creature isn't enough to tell Daemon a long winter full of ice zombies is coming. *And speaking of offscreen:* What a rip-off that literally everything significant in this show happens offscreen OR ends with cutaways to something else before a resolution. For the alleged burning of Sharp Point all we get is Aemond standing over a CGI version of a town and then the back of a dragon?! This is what I mean when I said everything feels unearned. The *Rhaena* thing is obnoxious as hell. The show writers kept trying to build some sort of anticipation around something we've known was gonna happen for 3 episodes already and nobody notices her total dereliction of duty toward her younger half-brothers, who she left completely unprotected with the staff. The writers chopped up a total of 90 seconds of screen time into this episode to make it feel earned when they finally bring her in on Sheepstealer sometime in 2026, as thought the audience is going to think "Aww she suffered so much hardship for that dragon" instead of "she abandoned two little kids for literally no payoff." And another thing: *what's going on with the army from the Vale?* It looks like Rhaenyra screwed herself out of that, since the deal was a dragon for an army and we just watched all the hatchling dragons head off to Pentos while Lady Arryn mean-mugged them from the back while she closed her gates. But the show completely leaves that hanging without a conclusion. On top of that, they had to throw in a couple of *needless 'girlboss' moments* not in the books. Obviously making the Triarchy captain a woman AND a lesbian was Emma D'Arcy's (they/them) idea just like the stupid kiss with Mysaria that doesn't fit with the story whatsoever. At this point why not just have Disney or Marvel write the rest of the show? Then, even though they at least have the grace NOT to do that again, now *Mysaria* is all "muh queen" like Jon Snow and suddenly all for attacking small folk with weapons of mass destruction?! One kiss and it's "meh, screw the small folk I've been talking about for my entire character arc?" Then they ended the *Harrenhal arc* with a repetition of the whole "King of the North" scene from GoT in place of any actual meaningful events that move the story forward. Honestly IDK how much Gurrm had to do with how this season ended but if I were an HBO exec I'd be thinking about canceling the series. Game of Thrones season 8 writing is not what I started watching House of the Dragon for at all.
