There hasn't been a single conflict with any of the books so far. It all comes from a deeply flawed understanding of written historical evidence. I Love Rhaenyra’s bond with Vermithor and her facial expression. She didn’t hesitate nor showed fear in facing Vermithor. She’s the Queen of dragons calling and feeling him to calm down. Dragon and Queen felt the same blood boiling in their veins. Vermithor understood the dragon call and so, the Queen gave him the honor to answer it in choosing the right one to be his rider. Beautiful! It was like a proper knight’s honor but in Vermithor’s case, it was a dragon call and honor to the gods. Rhaenyra could have mounted him if it’s only possible. Love it❤️

@christiangwenner63844 ай бұрын
It might very well be that it has nothing to do with blood at all. That might be nothing but ancient PR. Nobody knows. Much more likely, it's simply a question of character. Which might even be the whole idea at the show's core.

@Shelbzz4 ай бұрын
@@christiangwenner6384 oooooooo never thought of it that way. Nicely said! 😊
@christiangwenner63844 ай бұрын
@@Shelbzz Thank you very much! I'm never quite sure how sure-footed I am in expressing myself in English, which is not my own language. But I actually think Martin's work is very much about challenging our entrenched notions of quasi-medieval religiosity, legality and politics, the danger of mixing the three and, not least, the latent racism that can underlie questions of succession. Or at least a form of classism. Rhaenyra is just beginning to realise this, while it shakes her son's world view, who clings to his blue-blooded superiority because he was not granted ‘white-haired supremacy’. The idea of divine chosenness also played a central role in the actual Middle Ages, on which GoT is ultimately based, which is why candidates for the throne always endeavoured to be consecrated as early as possible by the most respected archbishops. With sword and sceptre as insignia of worldly and spiritual power. The dragons unite both spheres. So how could a dragon rider not feel chosen? It is quite possible that it is this false sense of uniqueness that gives rise to the self-assurance that is the real attraction for dragons. Combined with an ‘after me, the deluge’ attitude, which certainly characterises most dragons. Finally, the specific form of self-confidence must also match the respective dragon. Rhaenyra's youthful impetuosity and curiosity, together with her subtle disposition, are reflected in Syrax, as is Daemon's cunning but also fighting strength in Caraxes. Hugh's ‘I'm not going to take it anymore’ attitude and the hard life he has led are fitting for a dragon with many years of hardened experience. The young Aemond also had this attitude, though not the age, and the feeling of being excluded. Much like a dragon who prefers to rest in the deep grass outside the castle walls. The nefariousness that Aemond acquired over the years may again be a sign that the influence is reciprocal. We can look forward to seeing Ulf and Silverwing. However, the flight over King's Landing points to a shared streak of playfulness, even though both are long out of childhood. Much remains to be discovered. And what a discovery it would be if GRRM's final message was that it's not the surname you're born with that should determine your extraordinary life, but the character you bring to the table. Enjoy the ride!

I felt Vermithor's personality took after Jaeherys' personality and 'soul' even if he didnt care much for his granddaughter he still wouldnt want her dead. It looked like Vermithor actually wanted to follow Rheanyra when she left and his head was tracing her.

Is it self righteous to fight for the kingdom she was promised by her father the king 🤔🧐🧐
@Radonatorr4 ай бұрын
@@geoffdb8118 Viserys wish was against the Westerosi customs, traditions and against legal precedent established by Westerosi lords during the Great Council, which placed him to the throne. Otto was absolutely right in saying that "history and precedent support Aegon's claim". Yes, it is self-rightousness. Team Black stands for royal absolutism, where king's wish is an absolute law no matter how outrageous it is. Team Green stands for monarchy bound by moral and cultural norms of the people it rules over.
@EllieDaisy4 ай бұрын
@@Radonatorrthis is such an interesting take, I don’t think green are moral at all!
@Radonatorr4 ай бұрын
@@EllieDaisy Admittedly, Aemond and Aegon are definitely not moral. But everything Alicent did throught her entire life was in accordance with how she saw her moral duty - duty to her father and her family, duty to the House Hightower, duty to the Faith of the Seven. Even if she broke her moral codes several times, you can definitely see that she tries to act in a way she sees as moral. She is an honest believer in the Faith, it played a major role in her life. She even placed a gigantic symbol of the Faith inside Red Keep. House Hightower in general is very close to the Faith. They rule over Oldtown, which is the holy city and the major stronghold of the Faith in Westeros, kinda like Rome/Vatican is the seat of the Catholic Church. So on the symbolic level and in their political propaganda Team Green definitely stands for native Westerosi moral and cultural codes, in opposition to Team Black, who emphasize the Valyrian traditions of Targaryen conquerors and doesn't really care for Westerosi morality. Agnatic primogeniture as a rule of succession, that is the belief that sons must always inherit before daughters, is also one of the native Westerosi moral rules, supported by religious teachings of the Faith. Otto Hightower was very much aware of that.
