You guys nearly maimed or killed your selves by not knowing how to properly use the tools properly. Like not a small chance but a significant amount. The shield being on the incorrect side put Brian's finger at risk and if the disk exploded the shards would fly into his stomach. By not putting the knives in a vise before sanding you could've sent the knife into someone's stomach. Relieve cuts allows you to take chunks of material off safely with a cutoff wheel.
@lykonic1763
@lykonic1763 5 жыл бұрын
Not to mention how they've mentioned not only in this video but several others how you should properly secure the vise when you use it, as well as nobody seemed to know or care that wearing gloves with rotary tools is widely frowned upon because they increase the chance of getting caught up so much more (literally cringed in anticipation of something bad to happen when I saw Brian actually start going at it with gloves on).
@allstarwoo4
@allstarwoo4 5 жыл бұрын
Lykonic well I let the vise go cause they put in as a disclaimer. And yes and no, yes you shouldn’t use gloves with rotary tools but that more applies to tools with larger teeth that can catch on the glove. In this situation their chance of that happening are very low. In fact I know metal workers that work on large belt sanders or use the grinder regularly will still choose to wear gloves in those situations.
@lykonic1763
@lykonic1763 5 жыл бұрын
@@allstarwoo4 Compelling arguments all around. I've mostly picked up the absolute rule of "no gloves with rotary tools" from ZNA Productions because he tries to never use gloves with rotary tools (usually his angle grinder) unless there is a bigger risk presented by something else, like the wicked sharp burrs on the folding chair he cut a hole in to make a forge. I guess he'd just rather not take the chance of his glove catching somehow, or maybe he also feels like he has better dexterity with bare hands too. Either way, I suppose there are different ideologies, biases, and circumstances surrounding the gloves with rotary tools debate. I personally prefer no gloves for the sake of tactile feedback and control.
@MicahBurginGTVPO
@MicahBurginGTVPO 5 жыл бұрын
@@allstarwoo4 From a machine shop, the no gloves rule is pretty much ironclad. From a general perspective, like for electrical work, rotating tools with gloves is somewhat less enforced. Personally I'll take grinder spray to bare skin before I use an angle grinder with gloves but that's just me. Really it depends a lot on what kind of gloves they are... Nitrile gloves (Aside from the melting) don't really make a difference but cotton ones? Huge problem.
@allstarwoo4
@allstarwoo4 5 жыл бұрын
Micah Burgin from my understanding the chance of you glove getting caught in angle grinder should be small considering both hands should behind the tool. But then again I understand the blanket rule of not using gloves with rotary tools.

6:11 - That finger... holy shit. O_O Put your disc guard in the correct position! Bolt your vice down! Make relief cuts! Put the item in the vice so the cut you're making is at a comfortable angle, not an awkward one! Clamp the piece down when you're grinding it. I like Evan and Katelyn, but it's clear they barely know what they're doing. This video is like the visually impaired leading the blind and there were so many reckless things that made me actually uncomfortable watching this. I've watched every single Modern Rogue video and this was the first one I've had to throw the downvote on because it was just reckless and dangerous. If you want to do knives, do em right and partner up with an expert. As others have said Alec Steele is awesome, and he's now in Montana! Time for a rogue (road) trip!

You can't.. YOU CAN'T MAKE KNIVES OUT OF BIMETAL SAWBLADES. I don't think E&K have any knowledge about anything beside talking loudly and being flamboyant. I've made knives out of actual saw blades before and they turned out great, but a bi-metal blade, unless constructed with an HC steel back-end and carbide teeth (which even then would be a right pain to use) would be too soft to work properly as a knife. anonymoususer 111333666 it honesty depends on angle grinders and what your using but common practice is gloves and face shield the gloves are to protect you from the blade it’s to protect you from shrapnel if it were to explode / the cutting wheel they were using would’ve cut straight to the gloves I’ve had it happen to me a few times

This is either hilarious or horrifying. A little of both, but mostly horrifying. I've seen a finger that fought a grinder before. The finger lost the fight, and had to be reattached. At 6:11 Brian put his finger out to try and stop the disc from spinning. No. Just... NO. Even with gloves. Perfect video for showing how NOT to handle a grinder. I love these guys, learned a lot from them, but this ain't the learning experience I came for. XD

just a tip, when you are cutting longways with curves, cut lines down first that way you are cutting pieces off instead. This lessens the possibility of messing up, and also makes it easier than trying to cut the entire shape.
@dragonqueenarts
@dragonqueenarts 5 жыл бұрын
When you realize that you watch so many videos on how to make knives that you start thinking of how you could cut the blade, and attach a wooden handle, and make a sheath for it, and do it up all pretty. like, seriously, it's very easy to make the handle thinner and cut a hole in the center of a piece of wood, then attach them together and carve out a nice handle shape with a grinder and sandpaper.

I have a Suggestion for an Episode: A modern rogues wardrobe. Now hear me out on this. To be a Gentleman, warrior and/or scoundrel, you require proper attire. The Gentleman must look the part, the warrior must be protected without being unduly encumbered, Maybe have a hidden weapon, and the scoundrel Needs Things like secret compartments to hide stuff for tricks/Escape Tools/secret Intel/you Name it inside, etc. A modern rogues Outfit would naturally cater to as many of those Needs as possible, Maybe specialising for Occasion. A suit, the quintessential mark of a Gentleman, is suboptimal in the wild, just as a Survival based Outfit would not help you blend into a Fancy ballroom. I would love to see an Episode exploring that in Detail.
