Brian is like the super laid back dad that never gets mad, so it much more jarring when it does happen. I understand totally why he freaked, but I still felt bad for Jason because he would have never done it if he'd thought it through. It hurts more to get in trouble when you know you did something stupid to deserve it and you can't even tell yourself they overreacted about it. It's awesome that they used it as a safety lesson.

Love the video (as usual)! I'm actually very glad that the editor decided to leave the part at 8:50 in. This is an amazing laid-back show, but some of the things that you make are very, very dangerous. By the way, Jason, if you're ever using blowguns ever again and the same situatuon arises, do the same thing but without a dart in it :D. Thank you so much for the endless hours of entertainment, while still teaching safety, engineering, and so much more. Keep up the hard work!

He had a burt of about 10 seconds of yelling, likely from the startle, then immediately creeped a grin back on his face and calmly explained the issue. I used to use bike spokes also. I've also made a few using chunks of dense hair from a stuffed animal or simular for the flights. As long as you have enough hair/fur to fill the tube out it works great. Wrap the hair around the end of the nail or spoke and attach it by wrapping thread around it very tight. Then seal with superglue or simular glue. I've noticed a straighter flight with the hair. Essentially you want the end of the dart to look like a trolls hairdew. I know. Bad grammar .

If you want to be dead ass accurate with a blowgun, read this. You take the blowgun with both eyes open and don’t concentrate on the end of the blowgun, concentrate on the target. Don’t look directly at the end of the blowgun but you will be able to see two blurry blowguns out of the bottom of your eyes because you have your eyes open. Line the target up between the two blurry blowguns images and then just get the elevation right and it will go dead nuts. Try it. Edit: Not trying to be a suck up but you should pin this so people can see it. It has been helping me kill squirrels for years.

Brandon Szparagowski yeah it takes getting used to but it’s the only way I could get the dart dead on eyeballing it I end up shooting more left or right but yeah different stuff works.

A few years ago, I was working new construction as a plumber. One of the electricians noticed that the yellow wire nut was the same diameter as the 1/2 inch cpvc pipe we used. By poking a nail through the end of the wire nut we made a pretty badass blow gun.
@willcool7135 жыл бұрын
A friend at Will Vinton Studios in Portland, back in the '90's, made a blowgun out of spare tubing and darts from straightened steel wire. Then he built an adapter for the pneumatic tool system they had. We shot a dart clear through a basketball backboard.

The 2 best parts if this vid is when brian says "how to make a non-cursed blow gun" the followed by a small yellow caption saying 'no guarantees' and then a second later brian asking "what are blow guns used for?" and then jason replies " to kill".that is comedy gold right there

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Dissolve baking soda in hot water. Add to batter along with salt. Stir in flour, chocolate chips, and nuts. Drop by large spoonfuls onto ungreased pans. Bake for about 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges are nicely browned.

Over 20 years ago I used to work for a big box hardware store, and we used to make blowguns very similar to these. We used 1-1/2" drywall screws, along with the thick label paper that we used to print the prices on, to make the dart cones and clear packing tape. For the pipe we used 1/2" pvc electric conduit that had a coupling molded onto one end cut to about 5' in length. These were very powerful and accurate and would actually stick the dart into the cinder-block walls of the store. We successfully used these to "remove" small birds that got into the store through the always open garden center doors. We had to hide them from management but they looked very inconspicuous wile carrying them on the store floor.

I totally understand that Jason was trying to be funny, but he really has to think things through. Thank god it wasn't more than a scare. I get that it's a pretty laid-back, hanging-out-with-the-boys kind of show, but you gotta remember, these homemade weapons are still very dangerous. I really love/hate that they kept that section in. It gave the rest of the episode an awkward feeling, but it also shows that they're willing to be genuine, even when making mistakes.

I felt him when he blew the dart at the board while he was holding it, once I was at a place where you practice archery and I thought I was the only person their I didn’t bother looking to my left so I shot an arrow but I didn’t look to my left at a man down range clearing his board of arrows and that was breaking the rules what I did. But the guy wasn’t mad at me but my dad chewed me out for like 30 minutes.

the blocking with tongue technique is spot on. had a blowgun as a kid, and it makes a huge difference (plus your body doesn't move like when merely exhaling hard, affecting aim). mine was 3' and fired 4" ~1.5mm steel darts with small light plastic cones (43 calibre), apparently up to 200fps (probably more like 100-150 for me); if I missed and hit wood it took pliers to remove them, and I was a tiny 13 year old. was probably shooting from 3 meters maybe.
@ClintMaverickOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
As a child my grandfather made these with 1/2 metal conduit. Our darts were made from wire clothes hangers. The buffer on the back was cotton balls and thread. The narrow diameter of the wire made it pierce hard objects effortlessly. Also red wirenuts fit the 1/2” pipe very well.
