I made a board very similar to this, but I put a switch on the QC power supply so it doesn't start to boot every time power is presented, because on stage when they are setting up the front of stage power the power goes on and off until its time to line check, at that point the QC gets turned on and hasn't been switched off halfway through booting by accident.

Very Cool and very helpful. I am thinking of building my own now. The only question I have is about the Crux and the 2A supply instead of 3A that is required by the QC. Isn't that a potential reliability issue for the performance of the QC?
@templeboards3 ай бұрын
You can double check with Neural, but - as far as I know - the QC only draws around 2A and it’s perfectly safe to use with the Crux. I’ve had zero issues.
@HarryDime2 ай бұрын
@@templeboards Yeah you are right it draws around 2A. I am building my own in the next few days. I just decided to power the QC with its dedicated adapter since getting the Crux and the DC7 is overkill and more expensive than just getting a cheaper power brick that also does the job. The only downside is that I will connect two power sources instead of one.
@athoslucchini71593 ай бұрын
GREAT video! Have a quick question - why do you have to use the CRUX? I am curious if you could just set one of the 7 channels in the DC7 to 12V and run a power from that to the QC?
@templeboards3 ай бұрын
One channel on the DC7 doesn’t supply enough current. You could either bridge four channels to combine the current or use a Crux.
@DiegoScagliariniАй бұрын
@@templeboards you can use 3 parallel adapters to connect 4 outlets into 2, and then those 2 into 1. You'll have 12v DC with more than 3A for a very cheap price... instead of buying a 80 bucks Crux. Or even better, since you are not using other pedals, why not saving another 250$ by just using the provided power supply? 😅 I don't really see the point of spending more than 300 bucks for, in this case, a useless power supply.

I’m not an expert but mounting the power supply directly under the Quad Cortex doesn’t sound like good heat management. Especially when you’re covering the vents on the bottom of the Quad Cortex. I used the mission engineering 529M power supply. Very compact (just larger than a 9 volt battery) and it runs the Quad very nicely.

As far as I know, there’s no forced air cooling in the QC so it wouldn’t be blocking air flow. If it were problematic then it’d be easy enough to move the DC7 over. There is a bit of space for ventilation between the QC and the perforated top sheet of the board. The same amount of space as if you used the included rubber bumpers with the QC on a solid floor.

@templeboards4 ай бұрын
These particular builds were designed for Plini and Jake Howsam Lowe, who prioritized a highly compact setup. As you can see, the cable connectors stay neatly within the board's footprint, ensuring a good fit within the case and eliminating any concerns about cables extending over the edge and getting stepped on. We understand that not everyone has the same space needs. That's why we offer a range of sizes! If you prefer a different layout, you can explore options like the DUO 17, DUO 24, or even larger sizes. Couldn’t move the QC over any more because I needed access to the cable management hole on the left side. On a larger board (eg. DUO 17 or DUO 24) you could go all the way to the left and give yourself more space on the right. The handle doesn’t conflict with proper use of the expression pedal.

For powering the Quad Cortex? Yes, you can use the original adapter included with the QC by using our IEC MOD and NEMA 5-15 adapter. You can then zip tie the adapter and cable slack under the board. A couple other brands will work if you can bridge enough channels together to get 2A of current. Walrus Audio’s Canvas Power HP has a high power output that you can set to 12v.
