The director of this episode said that Rheanyra, Viserys and Daemon emerge out of episode 3 reborn with new perspective on who they are and what their purpose is. Well we just saw Daemon hear that help is coming and he can finally take a breather, but instead he rows out on his own, feigns surrender, and like a coiled snake he strikes cutting down 16 MEN all on his own like he’s playing Middle Earth: Shadow Of Mordor or Devil May Cry 5, gets saved by his army, and then kills the Crab Feeder and drags his corpse out showing off his new trophy! Daemon just leveled up to Legendary Badass level with that scene alone.

Matt Smith is perfect for Daemon Targaryen. Some fans say they wanted another actor because they imagined Daemon being more physically imposing. I prefer if the actor nails the personality more than the looks. It's similar to how I feel about Austin Butler portraying Elvis. I used to watch Once Upon A Time In Hollywood a lot, so I knew who Austin was. When I read he was going to be Elvis, I scoffed. He looks nothing like him. But when I saw the movie, he nailed Elvis perfectly. Performance matters more than physical looks. I'd rather have an actor not look how you imagined that character as long as he got the character traits nailed down over an actor who may look like that character but acts nothing like him. Example of the latter is Demetrius Shipp Jr. portraying Tupac Shakur in All Eyez On Me (2017). Looks like him but couldn't capture Tupac's charisma. While Matt Smith captures Daemon's charisma. Basically how *most* of us picture him from the books. It's crazy to think Queen Elizabeth II died yesterday and we're watching a show called House Of The Dragon about royal succession. Queen lasted 70+ years. Longest rein similar to King Jaehaerys Targaryen. Then we have a woman as the next heir which is Rhaenyra similar to Elizabeth 70+ years ago. And then Matt Smith portrayed Prince Phillip in The Crown.

Matt is super charming....something that I imagined Daemon Targaryen to be....charming and dangerous with alittle bit of softness to him. That was an all time great action sequence, but it was much more than that. It really showed what Daemon is all about. He's crazy. He's hardcore. He's a true warrior, not just a tourney knight dilettante. He's the real deal. From these three episodes, it's clear to me that Viserys is a dithering fool not to make Daemon Hand of the King. Daemon would keep the scheming lords in line and always have Viserys's back while Viserys's caution would keep Daemon's worst impulses in check. Could have been a great ruling duo.

You say that but stranger things have happened in real world military history, and without a doubt, archers can sometimes struggle to hit moving targets (especially those deliberately zig-zagging to avoid being hit, and if they are running through a debris strewn area) It's superficially like an action hero stunt to do, but if you think about it, 1 on 1 Daemon Targaryen should not be beaten random mercenary soldiers of the Triarchy. It's not so crazy. He is a major fighter and loves fighting. He is a Prince of House Targaryen. He isn't going down to 'some scrub no 27' just cos. Daemon isn't being swamped by them he is getting the better of a couple of them at a time and easily killing them. Nothing strange about it at all. Daemon can do that. Hero characters can do that. If you put say, Ser Barristan Selmy in the same situation, even as an old man, he'd pretty elegantly just cut his way through the beach towards the caves. Nobody would have a problem with that, so why not Daemon? No, he is not as good as Selmy with a sword, probably, but he was still more than good enough to be way better than your average joe soldier anyway. The fact Daemon is hit multiple times by the archers is technically more unrealistic than not. It's not a video game. It isn't as mad as you think for a lone runner to avoid even a lot of archers, especially at range. They still come close to him and then start to hit him when he slows down due to too many dudes rushing him. That is more a testament to their archery skills more than anything else to the contrary. And as I say, military history is littered with examples of stranger things than this. One man armies going ham on the battlefield aren't unknown. Daemon intended to either successfully distract the Triarchy troops or to die trying. Either way, he was at peace with that decision in the show. 'Realistic' you say? Well, in comparison to what? Again, the truth is stranger than fiction. Nobody would believe 'Mad Jack' Churchill went into battle in WWII with a broadsword while playing the bagpipes, or sometimes armed with a bow and arrow, or that he actually did kill German soldiers with that bow and arrow. But there you go. The real world is mental. P.S - I've seen some criticism of the scene saying it's odd that the Crab-feeder sends the troops out in conveniently small groups for Daemon to cut his way through with Dark Sister easily (let us not forget he is wielding an impressive Valyrian Steel sword, and he clearly knows what he is doing with it) Now, yes, it might seem convenient, but again, I'd argue it's more than acceptable. Besides the fact the Crab-feeder is off his rocker (insane), he was still weirdly pretty tactically aware enough to be smart at frustrating the men of House Velaryon and Daemon's mercenaries. He knew better than to send too many men out at once, to potentially get incinerated by dragon-fire. The Crab-feeder was constantly keeping an eye on the skies, and anticipating a dragon swooping down. He was no fool, ironically, in spite of being unhinged and clearly not well. It makes sense why, initially, the Crab-feeder would send small groups out to (as he hoped) bring Daemon down. If they died, well, at least he didn't risk losing dozens and dozens of men in a dragon attack. Moments later Laenor Velaryon would swoop down riding the dragon Seasmoke, and kill a lot of his men after he _did_ send them out in larger numbers, to surround Daemon. Yet one could still at least give the Crab-feeder credit, tactically, for at least _trying_ to judge things right and let Daemon come closer to the caves, before sending his men out in proper numbers. There was _an attempt_ to be smarter and not just rush out all his men for one guy. It did cost them quite a few, but nothing compared to how many Seasmoke soon burnt up on the beach and on the cliffs.

The fact Daemon is hit multiple times by the archers is technically more unrealistic than not. It's not a video game. It isn't as mad as some think for a lone runner to avoid even a lot of archers, especially at range. If you've ever done archery, you'll know it's not as simple as movies sometimes portray (most people are not in fact Legolas or Robin Hood, and a small margin of error on the archer's side of the range, will create a large angular difference at the point it hits the target or the ground) Archers can hit moving targets, especially if shooting in large numbers in a volley, don't get me wrong; but it's harder with fewer archers. Even if everyone is aiming at Daemon, it doesn't mean they will necessarily get lucky. I'm sure some skilled archers could shoot him down. But it's still reasonable to portray him running and dodging arrows. There are a lot of misconceptions around this. Archers aren't using covert tactical snipers or something. It's still prone to pure luck. They still come close to him and then start to hit him when he slows down due to too many dudes rushing him. That is more a testament to their archery skills more than anything else to the contrary. And as I say, military history is littered with examples of stranger things than this. Your thing about stranger things happening in military history reminded me of a Canadian sniper who fought it WWII and ended up liberating an entire Dutch town all by himself from the Nazis. So knowing something like that happened in real life makes this battle scene seem actually possible to me but that’s just my opinion You archery comments are also quite true as I have shot a bow and arrow a few times in my life and it’s not easily hitting a still target just a few feet in front of me, I can’t imagine having to fire a shot at a quickly moving target that’s more than a few feet in front of me

Parts of Daemon's daring dash felt a little silly, but I'm not mad about it. Overall great episode. Viserys and Criston Cole were the highlights for me.

I really, really hope they expand more on Criston and Rhaenyra's relationship. The book is so vague as to what happens.

I wish they hadn't skipped 3 years, I would have loved to see the King and Rheanyras reaction to the birth of his son and wish we had seen a bit more of the war, felt like a lot of hype for 10 min payoff. Also, why couldn't the dragon just breath fire into the cave?

I have ONE complaint about this sequence. I BADLY wanted to see a duel between Daemon and The Crabfeeder. Albeit, watching Daemon emerge dragging with his half-carcass behind him was awesome.

The Battle of the Bastards and the Long Night may have been visually spectacular (if you could actually see what was going on), but nothing about those battles made any goddamn sense whatsoever. I mean I'm not expecting hyper-realism or anything but just basic logic and logistics shouldn't be difficult to get right. I've never seen such poorly written and contrived battle scenes. So as long as HotD tries to make its battles more logical and well written, I'll be happy.

Enjoying the show and not hating, but am I the only person that thinks it was a badly done battle scene? There was no tension. Daemon was a terminator and there was a dragon again and the cool villain dies off-screen with zero character development and then it was over.

Deamon actually is a Terminator in Battle. And dont forget that this were just Sailors and "Common Folk". some Slaves maybe. Its not uncommon for lifetime trained experts to cut through a lot of enemies before being tired and stopped. That was a thing actually. Besides, Crabfeeder wasnt a real Story. Just some little concern to the king and only interesting for the prince to gain personal glory. This wasnt supposed to be a full out war or something.

The amount of arrows he managed to skip is overwhelming and that's why the only thing that bothers me about the scene is the lack of a shield. I mean, it didn't have to be an actual shield because in fact that would look out of place for the surrender facade but instead a piece of wood laying around could be useful at least in the part when he starts running for the first time. I'm so excited for the next episode! Just two more days🤟

Fantastic! I’m a bit concerned about the action in the show going forward, as so far it just hasn’t been very well shot and edited. It’s one of the few complaints I have but hopefully it gets a lot better. Show us more of the fight! The long continuous wide angle shots have been fantastic, but it’s when the camera gets way too close to the actors with way too many cuts that it becomes difficult to follow

🇦🇹👍🇭🇺 I dont watch the Game of Thrones because I'm really totally another series fun (scifi thriller and horror) But I do added some new series to my favorite list 😉 House of Dragons Now nr1 with *Olivia Cooke * she's a super actress! Good choice!👍👏🏼 can't wait for the next episode! ---Negative: I read often the comment section in Hungaryan Movie sites and all people write the colored characters are a bit strange in a series like that!
