Hi I just wanted to jump on here and mention a few things. Everyones skin is different, some have very sensitive skin and some have more forgiving skin, some oily, some dry, people have allergies, some of the ingredients mentioned work great with certain people and some simply do not. I personally use all products mentioned in my skin care routine, and i have been using them for years, I do not use store bought products *at all* . I do not have acne and I am not prone to break outs or clogged pores and those who experience these things obviously need to use products suited to their skin. Research your skin type, do patch tests, as you would with ANYTHING YOU PUT ON YOUR SKIN. I have been putting coconut oil on my face for like, my whole life, but a lot of people say it makes them break out- sure, not everybody is the same. I'm not a dermatologist, just a gal tryna inspire w/ some creativity and fun. Informative and respectful comments are welcome and appreciated as always 💕

Coconut oil is just such a large molecule that it just clogs pores. Avocado or especially rose hip oil have so many vitamins that can be absorbed by the skin and the molecules are small enough that they don’t clog pores!

A couple thing. I am not a dermatologist or professional at making makeup i have done my research, a lot of it. The honey mask will be awesome on the rest of your body but avoid the face with it! Its great if you opt out the brown sugar as sugar isnt good for the skin on your face, it causes micro tears in the skin. Anything rough or grainy isnt good for your face. The lips are different so sugar scrubs are great for lips. For the face toner you need a perservative or it can grow bacteria, persevatives dont have to be expensive or hard id suggest doing some research. Also for your face scrubs make sure your hands arent wet when you grab some of the scrub because water exposure can cause bacteria growth. These are amazing diys just please be careful making them.
@sophiabastos10355 жыл бұрын
Sugar particles do not cause microtears on your face, since they're not rough or pointy, but coffe is, so it is not recomended to be used on your face anyways.
@MummyBrown5 жыл бұрын
To piggyback off of this: ANYTHING that is introduced to water will go bad very quickly and can potentially irritate the skin. This includes used coffee grounds. You should really use what you make in that session and remix as needed. If you have a tad more, keep it in the fridge. Don't keep your mix for more than a couple of days as it has no preservatives in it. Also, the honey is only appropriate to use on your face if it's RAW, UNFILTERED honey or Manuka Honey. Anything else is not good for your skin...* I'm lookin' at you, cute little honey bear bottle * Coconut Oil is excellent when it works for you. If you are acne-prone, you risk breakouts with it if you don't do an extra cleanse afterward. It's really not the best oil for acne-prone skin. A great switch if you are acne-prone or straight up allergic to coconut oil is Babassu Oil. The texture is the same and it actually has even more properties for skincare than coconut oil. It's also not as rich so you don't have to have dry skin to benefit from it.

I do understand that everyone's skin is different. But lemon juice really shouldn't be being applied topically to the skin regardless of whether your skin reacts to it or not. Not seeing damage doesn't mean damage is not happening. The rest of the ingredients I can kinda shrug about due to everyone's skin being different. But lemon juice is not for anyone's skin. Even if your skin isn't sensitive. It is too acidic for anyone's skin.

This needs to be pinned! - Honey doesn’t do anything special: You’re better off with a formulated cleanser and moisturizer. Cinnamon is too acidic, lemon is too acidic, sugar and coffee grounds are too rough. Vitamin E can give you dark spots and skin discoloration, Geranium is an essential oil and is toxic to us and lavender is too much of an irritant to be applied to skin. Coconut oil clogs pores and is a terrible moisturizer. Lemom has a pH of 2.0 and our skin has a pH of 5~6. It will make your mucus membranes weak and frail and you will burn in the sun. DIY skin care is dangerous!

While I don't know if anything else you have said is accurate or not, there is one thing you said that IS inaccurate. MOST essential oils are extremely hard on the skin (especially those in the mint family) if used without some sort of carrier, be it alcohol, oils, or water (I have even seen people use a raw egg as their carrier with a few drops of an eo). They can leave burns on the skin from how concentrated they are, and that is a competely valid worry if you're thinking about handling them barehanded. But there are two essential oils that can be used straight on the skin as long as they're the genuine article (has the scientific name, the means of extraction, and country of origin on the bottle with no additives) - lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) and tee tree (Melaleuca alternifolia). Straight lavender essential oil can be put directly on fresh burns (speaking from experience here) to speed up the healing process, and while it doesn't soothe the pain it does also help lower the visibility of scarring.

For those wondering what to use other than a physical exfoliants i will reposts a reply i put under this video: Physical exfoliants in general are bad even when it seems relatively gentle. A better option is chemical exfoliants (don’t be scared of the word chemical) which are healthy gentle exfoliants that will break down dead skin and gunk at a much deeper level than even physical exfoliants do at a much gentler level. There are a broad range of diff chemical exfoliants some are more gentle than others so you can pick one that’s best suited for your skin do some research!! the results will be more subtle than physical exfoliants(because obvs when ur literally tearing a layer of ur skin off it’s going to feel super smooth) but overtime u will see the harsh results of using physical exfoliants. The only physical exfoliant that i would recommend would be the aztec clay mask which I really like after you use the mask just gently allow for the water to rinse it off with slight help of ur hand to get excess off for slight exfoliation. I hope this helps ALSO i recommend the brand : The Ordinary they hve incredibly CHEAP ass products im talking under 10 for practically all their skin care they are a clean brand, fragrance free, and extremely transparent with all of their ingredients.

The "honey face mask" is a good exfoliant for your body, especially before shaving, but don’t use it on your face. The coconut oil will clog your pores, the lemon juice is too acidic for your face and the cinnamon is bad for people with sensitive skin as it’ll make you get rashes and redness (I thought my skin wasn’t sensitive but I used this cinnamon mask thing in my hair once and it got onto my forehead and made it red and itchy for days). Also, the brown sugar, or any sugar in general, is too harsh and exfoliating for your skin, especially sensitive skin. But you can use this scrub on your lips since it will exfoliate the dryness away. Only use once a week though or your lips will become sensitive. P.s : I’m not a dermatologist but I really want to be one when I’m older since it’s my dream job and I love biology and skincare :)

Just a little suggestion for those who wanna try coconut oil. You have to make sure it's a virgin coconut oil and cold-pressed because it is the one that is good for skin, so make sure of that. Also don't microwive coconut oil, instead just put it in a warm water for it to melt. But then again, honestly you just have no other option but doing trial-and-error for your skin. Because everyone skin is different and what works for others doesn't always mean it would works for you and vice versa. So just try until you find the one that works

Megan Nguyen make as much as you’ll need in one sitting. The oil and sugar is perfect for bacterial growth like mold. Though the lemon juice might help preserve it for a day or so, lemon juice is never recommended to put on your skin so you should skip that step, so I’m reality a mixture of oil and sugars should last you one use. Don’t make more and use it next week. That’ll be horrible. If you need more information i recommend this KZbinr Kenna, she reviewed Bella Thorne’s skin care routine and her scrub was pretty much the same thing and she explained how long you should keep a scrub like that.

Mrs Mendes yes, it’s def not for everyone. Coconut oil makes my skin clogged and poop smelling (no joke. A fresh newborn poop 💩). Also sugar can disturb PH of skin or vagina so I would be careful with it around intimate areas and when added to bath

Do you know how long the face mask keeps? Great video and love listening to your voice!
@gachaowl27485 жыл бұрын
lifeonpaper7 it will last quiet a long time as long as you keep it in an airtight jar, after a while the honey and coconut oil will begin to solidify a bit, so you may have to stick it back into the microwave for 10 secs

Omg pleaaase Never ever use brown sugar for your face
@safiaahmed5 жыл бұрын
Why not?
@jule36395 жыл бұрын
Safia Hussein bc it’s a physical exfoliation which is 1. not good and 2. it’s waaaay to rough to your skin an can cause microtears
@memep.92204 жыл бұрын
@@jule3639 Well white sugar is known to be more harsh than brown sugar So with skincare DIYs when they have sugar they say it's better to use brown than white sugar but it probably is harsh but not as bad for different people As skin types can vary and some may have very sensitive skin so ig you're right
@jule36394 жыл бұрын
MeMe P. Yeah I mean for some ppl it can work and sugar is probably the best physical exfoliating ingredient but also the fact that she but lemon in it ahhh
@memep.92204 жыл бұрын
@@jule3639 oh I see what you mean about the lemon but I've grown up with people who'd rub a literal lemon on their face so it can't be that bad but they wouldn't put an exfoliant on so it would just be alot of acid on their face which would probably dry their oily skin so not for everyone But yeah if it's really harsh plus lemon bad combo somewhat Oh they'd also rub tomatoes on their face as well

For people commenting how coconut oil is bad for the skin or that they are in cosmetology school and that stuff in this video is wrong, well let me add my two cents as a med student who's going to be going into the dermatology stream: yes coconut oil can clog pores, that being said not everyone has the same pores. It all depends on the type of pores you have and the type of skin (enlarged, blackhead, whitehead, acne ; normal, dry, oily, or combination). If you suffer from acne issues and have oily skin then of course coconut oil is not a good option. However if you have extremely dry skin and relatively normal pores, adding a little bit of coconut oil is good to moisturize and the antimicrobial properties deem it a helpful medium since the linoleic acid and unsaturated omega-6 fatty acid renders it an emollient and skin soother. Concentrated lemon juice is not good for the face but there are many ways to distill the lemon to make it more alkaline yet still have the right amount of acidic properties to help as an antibacterial and a good source of vitamin C (i.e steam distilling lemon peels). If you plan on using lemon juice use it as spot treatment only and do not use it frequently. My point is, there is nothing wrong with using products like these as long as you know your skin type and as long as you treat them chemically to make it compatible for the facial skin.

As far as I’ve researched (which is extensively) I can’t find any cosmetic substitute for honey that isn’t just a heavy moisturizer. There are plenty of options for honey substitute in cooking, but I can’t find one for skincare. Maybe I’m just not looking in the right places, idk 🤷🏾♀️
