Very nice workmanship. Nice to watch such a large ship being made just as they have done for years and years. Interesting that they have adapted fibre glass and resin to protect the wood planking from the enviornment. Sur prolongs the life of the vessel for many years. Beautiful... Great video.

The work they all did is worth watching. You can see the quality of the work and the consistency of the design. If that were my boat i would be proud to take it up and down the river and enjoy what has been created. Having the wood types to do such a wonderful build is very impressive. All of the men know exactly what to do and never miss a beat and doing it well. I am very impressed.

Here in the Philippines, FIRST CLASS WOOD is VERY EXPENSIVE, hence, it cannot be considered as "scratch". I am amazed that first class wood in Vietnam is just SCRATCH.

This is not the way wooden boats are "generally" sealed. Wooden boats are caulked with a special stranded cotton fiber tightly packed between the planks and all around the sims with a caulking iron and mallet. then sealed with a compound. When the boat goes on the water, the planks swell and tighten. This provides a flexible connection between the planks allowing them to move, shrink, and swell while maintaining the integrity of the hull. it is very labor intensive, but it's the long-standing way since the Vikings set sail in the open sea.

Very interesting. If i recall my boat bulding time correctly the tropical hardwood alone would make this a very expensive build in europe. I remember how carefully the Master stored his teak planks. :D The wood-glass fiber build is strange though.

Về cách thức thực hiện thì không khác nhiều đâu bạn, chỉ là bây giờ có máy móc phụ giúp nên công việc sẽ nhanh hơn, những cây đinh tán bằng kim loại thay thế cho đinh gỗ thì tàu được bền hơn.... Còn cách thức thực hiện không khác đi nhiều đâu, bao năm nay vẫn vậy và chúng tôi tin rằng nghề này được truyền lại từ đời này sang đời khác...kể cả những việc cúng bái, tâm linh phía sau công việc này mà video chưa đề cập đến...đó cũng là thừa kế từ thế hệ trước.

I don't think they'll show that in the video. I assure you that the shipwright I know has sustained some sort of injury with appropriate working clothes and in a safe working environment. It's part of the trade. I'm nervous just looking at them work. Good shipwrights, but how many of them actually last long in the job under such environment?
