Amazing video! Thank you for sharing it! You are the first one I’ve seen who’s actually used epoxy to protect the threads as well as leave a drain port at the bottom. Right on for thinking of that. Maybe other folks do as well but I personally saw you do it here. And thank you for the easy music. My aging ears can’t do a whole lot of heavy music anymore. Lol. Stay young as long as you can. Nice vid dude. I glue the welt in on both sides then stitch. 100 and 1 ways to do this. I don't dye much of the inside of the sheath, just what folks will see. If you cut deep enough for the stitches on the inside of the sheath for the belt loop there are no worries about cutting the stitches, they are below the cut line. Never thought of gluing them, I'll try that. The taper on the knife helps with that too. I wet form after stitching too as everything is already lined up and stitched. Not complaining about your process as it works fine. I just do it a little different. Same results.

CraftShop I think it's only a matter of time. I began blacksmithing, took a course recently, a wood shop and tools at my disposal. To make a knife/axe/hatchet/hammer and all the accessories from start to finish is extremely rewarding.

Great Video: next time at hardware store,check out Johnson's wax in big yellow can( get much+ lasts) Handed down from my grandfather..Scent disapates in 5 minutes.Great for leather,read can..I let residue build up storing same rag with it.Even if refurbishing a mower,give it a wipe down.Rubber,ceramic or even storing your carbon steel blade.I have unused Union cut kabar collection I trust Johnson's for storage..(beats cosmolene)..I learned organized fashion to do sheath,liked the drill press,never thought of that..Subbed...

Well done and quite informative. You'll find it much easier to glue the sheath together then drill out your stitching holes. A stitching horse will hold the leather while you stitch. Easy enough to make one.

Brad, Just a word of caution .. you use the power sanders without any sort of mask protection. Leather does not dissolve in the lungs. Remember coal miners and black lung 'disease' from coal dust in their work environment and you get the idea. Leather dust from what I've researched can be very fine and hard to detect. Get a good mask with filter cans on the side. You can open the cans from time to time and see how much gunk they saved you from. This would also apply if you are hand sanding. It's a pain, but you are young and have a lot of leather crafting potential ahead ... Short term hobbyists [including retirees like myself] don't have to worry too much ... but even then ... a covid mask is better than nothing.

I second this. I’m a wood carver. For a long time I was an “ehhh I’ll be fine” type of person when it came to sanding and not wearing masks. My lungs are fine, I think, but not wearing a mask absolutely annihilated my sinuses. It’s a slow progression so you don’t really notice it for a while at first but eventually it’ll get to the point where bloody noses are a regular occurrence and you get sinus infections anytime there is the slightest irritation to the sinuses. Allergies? Sinus infection. Cold? Sinus infection. Tiny bit a dust breathed in while cleaning? Sinus infection. Not fun.

Wow,love the way you made the sheath look well worn.for burnishing the edges i saw in an other vid the guy had an old drill press pully mounted on a bench grinder,asked him about it,he said it did a better job and saved alot of time burnishing,might want to try it out.

A round file just a little wider than the leather would put a perfect groove in your dowel for burnishing. It also works to put a plastic burnisher in the drill press. Nicely done!

You have a lathe and wood, just cut a trough in a piece of scrap wood. In 10 seconds you have a burnisher.

Great sheath.I use Johnson's floorwax in big yellow can.Leathermens secret.Antique restoration secret,works for anything.I never tried wetting to shape.I am making Kukri sheath.I will try that.I alway's use rivots but will stitch this.Many thanks for posting.

Some very good ideas. The strip between the free margin to prevent the knife edge cutting the thread. The single piece pattern for the sheath. Use of the drill to widen the stitch holes.(considering the thick leather).. Wonder if a simple nail can be used by those who do not have a drill. Use if the epoxy too,-good idea.
