S125V steel is capable of achieving quite high hardness, about 66 HRc when properly heat treated. This steel has a hardness “when quenched” at 400°F. The following hardness values ​​are obtained from heat treating small coupons by austenitizing for 20 minutes, plate quenching, cooling with liquid nitrogen and tempering twice for two hours each.
