Hi. I just bought one today for 100 dollars. I'm very excited and It is for my restoration project. Your video is very helpful since I have never owned a lathe before yet alone, taking it apart. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for this. Now I won't be worried about taking apart my 109

In the headstock, beside the pulley is a sun gear. It should have a small sliding mechanism on the side that locks the gears in for backgear drive. I just gave away a 109-21270. Joe

i dont see anything that looks like the sun in the head stock. i see a split bushing that they both screw together to tighten around the shaft and on th chuck side has a bushing and it has a little metal bracket about an inch long screwed to both the bushing and the head stock body and sound as it it is in back gear. chech the next video im editing right now on putting it back together and maybe you can see what i could be doing wrong this is far from how atlas made stuff lmao

If you pull the spindle completely out, you will see where the pulley and the round housing next to it come together. Inside that round housing are planetary gears. I am assuming that yours is similar to the 21270 that I had. I will watch the video. By the way the spindle will come out towards the lathe bed and as you slide it out the pulley and stuff will come out. Look for a very thin key on the spindle shaft as you pull it out. The bearing on the bed side of the head is split and that is how you adjust the endplay.

I don't recall seeing the bolt that you slide to engage the back gears, is it there?

The thrust washer you picked up came off when removing one of the gears ! I think it was the last gear you took off but you can check on video ! Do you have a straight edge to check the A.s on bed for runout wear, Love these little lathes for turning small's ! cool little hobby lathe !

Don't feel bad about returning your sockets. Sears sold Craftsman to Black & Decker
@BisonWorkshop6 жыл бұрын
so black and decker will still replace them for free?
