I have to admire the intelligence of the mouse -- or the mice -- that built the nest. Consider this: they found a protected, dark location. Building up the nest just right there will let the creatures stay cozy warm even in very cold weather. The creatures can raise multiple litters and do so without being disturbed for months at a time. It is pretty smart of them -- until a human tries to start the engine, or until one or more of the creatures start a fire. By the way I hope you gave the tractor engine a good scrubbing to get rid of the mouse messes and so you can check for hidden damage.

Thank you Tyler! Wow that was a big nest compacted under there. Here in Ohio I get a lot of those in snowblowers and tillers.

Tyler Great video mice moved in don’t make it easy to run your mower damage will happen sooner or later and it will cost you plenty in repairs

When I saw the fire early in the video, my first thought was - "he gave up on that Craftsman tractor awful quick...." 8^) That Mouse-O-Matic pre-chewed ignition wire never was real good (on any engine). Cheers!

Have that same mower that I bought in 2001 if I remember right. Had to replace the head gasket twice due to it blowing out between the piston bore and the push rods (common on these). Other than that the engine never game me an issue until 2019 when it developed a bad surging issue. Carb rebuild didn't fix it, new carb didn't fix it, adjusting and then replacing the governor didn't fix it. At that point I had about $125 in it and still wouldn't run right and my lawn was starting to look like jungle. Looked online and I discovered I could get a complete new engine for about $375 so I went that route. As long as the deck doesn't rust out and the transaxle doesn't take a crap on me I should be good for another 15-20 years.

Interesting video. I had mice eat the evaporation lines in my car. The car check engine light wouldn't go off. $1450 and 2 weeks later, the check engine light was fixed. Expensive just to pass emmissions testing. So, if I park it over the winter again, I'll encapsulate it with a tarp. I hear mothballs are supposed to work as well but not sure.

I was thinking the exhaust on the nest started it. It turned into a conflagration all the way back to the starter, then it died due to mouse urine, then Mickey and Minnie came back and put a second story on!

I happen to stumble across yours I like what I’ve seen so far look forward to seeing lots and lots more content 😊

Mice can create a big mess when allowed to have rent free accommodations. Wonder if the nest was started late last summer while the tractor was still being used periodically and then as winter set in more "insulation" was added to make for a nice winter home?? Thinking the owner needs to invest in a four legged mouse trap as featured at the start of the video. Thanks for sharing.
