I have the Craftsman 20V brushless drill & impact kit and it works well. Sometimes though the batteries get funky and I need to remove it and reinstall it before it works. It’s great for around the house for sheds/decks & such however It bothers me that it can get finicky and I need to get off the roof or deck to swap out a battery for no apparent reason but an iffy battery connection. I am really hesitant to continue with the Craftsman line for that reason alone. The battery issue is the same across both the drill and impact driver. I really like the Milwaukee line but the price point is insane!

Yet another stellar review. I used to be a Craftsman fanatic. I had every 19.2v in the C3 line they made. Yes, even the paint gun. Haha. They didn't hold up well. They were underpowered. I had an impact go bad after a year and took it back to Sears for warranty/repair. I was given the runaround which lasted weeks. Still no repair or replacement. So I did what any red blooded American would do- I went on the hunt. For a new line. Black Friday was a week away and I researched as much as I could in that time and ended up buying three sets. A Red, a Yellow, and an Orange. I ended up keeping the 12v Red and 18v Orange. I couldn't have been happier. I needed more torque while doing an exhaust job last year and ended up expanding into the 18V Red stuff. Oops! I've since bought 10 more in that line. I'll never look back, but I'll definitely give the new Craftsman hand tools a gander.
@amp12345amp5 жыл бұрын
J D .....do you still have your Craftsman C3 tools? Those tools are becoming somewhat of a collector's item. How do you think this impact gun compares with the previous C3 impact gun? The previous C3 with the Li-ion battery normally gets fairly good reviews on KZbin.
@jd96415 жыл бұрын
@@amp12345amp I sold it all as a set to one guy. If I remember correctly, I sold it all for $350. That was a helluva deal for him but I just wanted it gone as I was disgusted with Sears' warranty issues and wanted to wash my hands of it. In my opinion, the impact was the best tool in the C3 series. I don't think the C3 was as long as this new one. But, back then I didn't expect a whole lot from battery powered impacts. I still used air for heavy duty stuff. Since getting into the Milwaukee and Ridgid, I barely use any of my air tools.
@amp12345amp5 жыл бұрын
J D ...oh damn I missed out. LOL. I talked to another guy on here about the C3 line of tools and he said the paint sprayer is so rare that it can fetch up to $600.00. I see the C3 grinder and one handed reciprocating saw listed on eBay for about $150.00 apiece so if you sold those three tools you may have given that guy too good of a deal. As for these new Craftsman tools, they seem "plasticky / toy-ish" to me when I looked at them at my local Lowe's store. I am going to try out the new Craftsman hand tools myself, some sockets/ratchets stuff. Hopefully Craftsman can't screw those up.

I’d like to see Stanley Black and Decker break the mould and start making batteries compatible across all of their platforms. I think it would put them light years ahead of the competition. It’s no secret that all of us hate that every brand requires its own battery type and that those lines have a shelf life, after which you’re left with a defunct line of tools.
@lesswatt5 жыл бұрын
I think the idea is to force people to invest into new lines of tools with different battery connections. Some of these craftsman are just rebadged Porter Cable with new batteries with polarity swapped. It looks like some of it is clones of Dewalt and just as good but depends on the model. I would invest in it if they had made compatible batteries with Porter Cable but at this point...I'm thinking TTI and Rigid. I'm not a pro so I really don't need Milwaukee.

A few months ago I scored a ridiculous deal on Marketplace from a kid who spent way too much of daddy's money on a huge lot of brand new tools at Lowe's then immediately decided he didn't care for jobsite life. My neighbor talked me into this tool a year ago and I was very 8mpessed with the power. Problem is after about a dozen uses the thing went kaput and i can't get any warranty because the neighbor bought it through his account and he died. I took it apart today and there is some kind of large power transistor in the trigger switch along with a mini electronic board. I doubt i can even get parts so I will sell the batteryto recoup some cash and have already bought a used dewalt. Damn shame Craftsman gave up on customer satisfaction.

I love how some folks think Craftsman "makes" these tools. Open a few different brands and you'll see similarities more aligned to price-point than label name. Most retailers (Lowes, HD, NT, HF, Sears) contract with just a few manufacturers for a given set of specs, production quantity, QA limits, and price. Brushless is still a pricey feature because it's more expensive and purchasers will pay for it because it works better. Same for Lithium vs. NiCd vs. NiMH - cost and price are related and Lithium, like brushless motors, requires a better controller, but works better.
