Craftsman has a place in my heart. Grew up using these with my dad back when they had the MADE IN USA tools
@NGMonocrom6 ай бұрын
Look.... Truth is, the *REAL* Craftsman is gone. The factory where it was made, the hard-working fellow Americans who made Craftsman tools.... Gone. Literally the only thing that survived is the name. And, when a certain company bought the Craftsman name from Sears for $900 Million (not a typo) their lawyers for some incredibly stupid reason, didn't bother getting the _exclusive_ rights to the name. While Sears was still in business, they were able to legally continue to make tools using the Craftsman name. And, due to some more legal nonsense, another company was also able to release tools bearing the Craftsman name as well. All three entities had legal rights to the name, shortly after the sale. All three had a line of cordless power-tools. With three different proprietary battery-packs that didn't work with each other. Sears in its dying day had Craftsman, Lowe's was supplied with Craftsman tools from the company that paid $900 Million for the non-exclusive rights to use the Craftsman name. And, outside of Sears, and Lowe's you had companies selling the 3rd Craftsman line of tools. It was insane! Highlighted the truth. ONLY thing that currently exists nowadays is the Craftsman name. Slapped onto tools that are good, but they used to be great. Brushless models, a very good bargain. Brushed tools are horribly overpriced for what you get. Same goes for Craftsman tool boxes.

The CMCF940 is essentially the DCF899 in red. SBD did the same thing with their mid-torques, repackaging the DCF894 as the CMCF920 after the DCF891 was released. The Craftsman line works for the average home user/DIY mechanic.

I’ve been running a pretty crappy porter cable impact since I was like 18 and was buying my first tools, probably going to grab this one since all of my drills and drivers are craftsman just for battery interchangeability, and it seems like a decent upgrade over my porter which has honestly been a work horse for how cheap it was. If I was going to be wrenching full time I’d probably grab a dewalt or Milwaukee though.
@lesswatt Жыл бұрын
They have a Porter Cable high impact now as well and although I'm invested in both lines I went with the Craftsman High Impact. Craftsman seems to have more clearance deals at Lowe's and Porter Cable only seems to be at Tractor Supply now.

@lesswatt Жыл бұрын
Craftsman is basically the replacement for Porter Cable which I still have plenty that I picked up clearance and I've been doing the same with Craftsman V20. I now own all three Craftsman impact wrenches the 3/8, the 1/2 mid-torque, and now the 1/2 high torque. I just had to run out and get high torque to get off a Honda crank bolt and it did it easily but the mid-torque wouldn't move it.

Try the 9.0 A/H battery on tests please. I have the new 921B mid torque. It is surprisingly good. The tool is absolutely a different animal switching to the 9.0. And as soon as craftsman gets a 12.0 A/H battery... One is to assume correctly that it's a beast of an impact
@MoneyManHolmes2 жыл бұрын
I have all of the batteries too. I haven’t noticed any difference between the 6.0 and the 9.0. The 6.0 really wakes everything up. The 9.0 gives that extra run time. It would be cool to see some real world tests and numbers.
@loucifer42052 жыл бұрын
Depending on the tool 9amp battery is great with the circular saw, miter saw and recip saw that's where it shines, impact driver and wrenches don't consume as much power, that is why on Milwaukee impacts the 6amp is better than the 12amp

Did you use a 5ah craftsman battery? Where did that even come from? I’ve only seen the 2ah, 4ah, 6ah & 9ah.
@emmettturner9452 Жыл бұрын
I got my Craftsman CMCF940 used from a pawn shop and it came with a different charger and 6AH battery. The manufacturing date on the battery was newer than the tool and the tool itself was only months old at the time, so I lucked out. I actually fixed my DeWALT DCF899 and didn’t need two of essentially the same tool so I ended up giving the Craftsman to a friend who absolutely LOVES it. That means it’s on at least it’s fourth owner despite being less than a year old (counting the pawn shop that mixed up the batteries). :) I’m using my DeWALT with 5AH batteries so it’s kind of a small downgrade for me but I didn’t have anything else to use Craftsman V20 Max batteries with making it the logical one to pass on.

FUn thing is in actuality, the craftsman has shown more torque than the dewalt 899 yet the 899 is rated higher. Some weird things happening at SBD. Go watch the torque test channels dyno tests. They also tear them down and the craftsman was significantly better built on the inside. Wires were double in size over the dewalt. Not sure why this is a thing.
@stgsux2 жыл бұрын
they took an old design(in dewalt), tweaked it based on their internal research, it benefits from the latest components & design guidelines and the result is slightly better performance overall. they never change existing designs unless theres a safety recall and theres no need to change the existing supply chain for something that is tried and tested but they continuously release newer iterations that also feature those benefits(result: the dewalt900). like apple releases new products, but never change the old ones as theres no need.

I bought one and used it one time and it broke. I use a DeWalt at work every day and it’s going strong. The only reason I got the Craftsman was because I already have most of the Craftsman lineup with batteries and chargers.

Hello again WorkshopAddict Thank you for another Great Video 👍 I am researching for my next tool purchase. And cordless tools are on the list. I don't need something that big and heavy duty for aircraft maintenance. The warranty and how that works. For most of my work a 12- volt drill and impact wrench are good enough. And if the charge goes say to the eight hour range and recharges fairly quickly. Then I'm good 👍 Neither of these tools sound like a fit to me. If something comes to mind, please let me know. Again thank you 😊

I have the P262 and it's no slouch but it's still a mid torque. The new RYOBI high torque would be the one to pit against this Craftsman
@nathanielbonde77162 жыл бұрын
If on a budget go with ryobi because you never have to worry about them making a battery format go obsolete. Craftsman seems like they change their battery format every couple years making their tools automatically obsolete.
@bmir892 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily obsolete... but yes it is very annoying to have to buy adaptors just because they changed their battery platform. Worked at many shops that used Dewalt or Milwaukee... the number of times some poor crew was out somewhere and forgot the stupid adaptor. It's like 80% of the reason I'm with Ryobi.

Craftsman just feels like a hollow company. No real people or innovation behind it, just slapping the name on some copycat tools to take advantage of the old heads that remember the brand.

It’s a entry level brand meant to compete with Ryobi. I say it excels at it. Dewalt is the answer to Milwaukee Craftsman is the answer to Ryobi Porter Cable meant to go against Hart. Black and Decker is super low tier. Meant to compete against Chinese knock offs. Kobalt and Flex although not black and decker is meant to go against Ridgid.

That’s how I felt in the years prior but not now that the CMCF940 is literally a DeWALT DCD899 high-torque that fits Craftsman batteries and not now that Stanley Black & Decker is ramping up to produce Craftsman-branded hand tools in the USA again. Even at their height, Craftsman was just a label on quality American tools made by other companies. It seems like they are headed that way again in SBD’s hands. No one can complain about their best power tools being rebadged versions of what was DeWALT’s best only months ago (new DCF900 kills the DCF899… and everything else).

I got the hercules ultra torque with a 12ah battery. It will obliterate that craftsman and the dewalt. The dewalt dcf900 cannot even compete with the Hercules ultra torque. TTC did the test on Hercules ultra torque and one for dcf900. Hercules ultra torque broke 2,000 foot pounds loose. Dcf900 struggled to break 1,700 loose. Dcf900 is not the most powerful 1/2 inch. HERCULES ULTRA TORQUE IS! Matco 1/2 inch high torque is pretty strong but Hercules beats that one too. I use power tools all the time at the shop so I know what I am talking about.
