With a robust and compact design, the Speedmaster Automatic ref. 175.0084 aka the Mark 40, is an undercover badass in the neo-vintage category of watches. The Omega Mark 40 is a triple calendar, with a 24hr indicator, and of course, a chronograph function with 30 minute and 12hr totalizers. Powered by the Omega cal. 1151 movement, this is all accomplished in a satisfying dial format that is well balanced and clearly legible.

Love how even back in the 90's Omega was finding ways to show more information on each subdial - similar to how they do with the hours/minutes on the 9300/9900's on the modern Speedys, and the lume color on that dial is just amazing. Great video 👍🏼

You forgot to mention that it has an anti-glare sapphire crystal. I bought my am/pm new and I still remember when I first open the box, it was so clear that I thought the crystal was missing. Coincidentally, I just replaced my leather strap today and happened to be wearing it now. Never realized that this watch has 8 hands. 40mm and wider lugs would complete the watch.

Thank you so much for the review!! This year i purchased this speedy. I love it!! It was a hard decision between this and the mark II. But you can find the mark 40 in better condition than the mark II and my wrist is very small so it fits perfect.

Only downside is the 30m WR which is even risky for just washing hands and rinses, so it needs to be pressure tested often given its age. I own a '99 blue version, and an '05 chronometer version with the 100m WR upgrade.

Great video about a great little watch. If the Speedy Pro was the watch for astronauts, the MK40 would probably be the one for the mission controllers. It shows you everything you need while you are locked away from daylight for hours or maybe days focused on your screens and the mission progress. I love the design of the Speedy Pro but it was kind of too simple for me. No date, no hacking seconds (how was that no requirement by NASA?!?) nothing but time and chronograph. And the MK40 really packs a punch with all its complications. Especially considering its size. I had to have one. Found a very good example 2 years ago and it will never leave my collection again. Mine seems to have Luminova dial and hands I think. Do you know if those are service parts, or was the MK40 also produced with Luminova and not only Tritium?
