Heres one for you, I used to go and watch Forest train behind the City Ground on Holme Road whenever was off school etc, you had to walk down the back of the ground down the Trent towpath at the side of the river. The players would walk down/back up into the ground. One day I was bit late and training had started so as I was walking down I saw BC come out the ground and start walking down. I got my photo or book and asked him to sign a few bits but my pen wouldn't work - BC said "your pens not working son but I'll see you in my office" I was about 12. I nodded and he went "Come on, walk with grandad!" so I carried on walking down the banks of the Trent with him. Just madness! Then a bloke came up with a young son and asked for his autograph and Brian spoke to him. I thought that's my claim to fame done and carried on walking. BC shouted "HEY ALAN! HOLD MY STICK!" My name's not Alan by the way he just made it up! So I walked back and he handed me his walking cane that had been presented to him by Nottinghamshire miners for letting them hold their meetings in the Jubilee Executive Club at the City Ground during their strikes!!! So he talks to the fella and asks if he can hold his son, his son, just a toddler doesn't want to and BC said "thats good, stay with your dad, my boys wouldn't leave their dad either!". Fella went one way, me and BC carried on....!! walked past the Junior Reds Soccer School on the other side of the fence with everyone shouting "cloughie cloughie" and there's me 12yrs old, me and Brian Clough!!!!. Got to the gates of the training ground and BC said "thanks for walking me down, be careful the balls are very hard". Just an unbelievable thing, just utter dreamland. Me and Brian Clough walking down the banks of the Trent! Never felt nervous after that 1st bit about the pen, didn't feel out of place with an adult despite him being my hero etc. Just the kindest fella you could ever imagine meeting. Brilliant memory, still is.

Behave, anyone who used to go down to watch them train was treated well. Was raining on another occasion so they were inside playing 5-side. Everyone who was down getting autographs was allowed in, another occasion in the players carpark, Ron Fenton and Clough got out holding loads of easter eggs, guess it was one for each player, another time my mate got BC to sign a ball and he asked what his dog's name was and Cloughie replied "Dog, because that's what he is!" ( as it happens his name was Del Boy) haha. It was common mate, but you weren't there!

Hi lads and Craig, I served with Aaron in the 1st Battalion Light Infantry .We spent 6 months in the central American jungle in 1992.I obviously didn't realise his upbringing was so impoverished. He was a decent lad .Its a shame that he is no longer with us RIP Aaron 💔 I also used to live in great houghton and regularly saw parky in the bookies in thurnscoe . Don't reproach yourself too much Craig we all make mistakes in life ,it's how we learn and move on . Great story thanks for telling it

thanks to all who have watched it and the lovely replies. To those who rightly criticise me I can only apologise and say no-one can criticise me as much as I criticise myself. What WE did was unforgivable and wrong but try not to let that take away from the beauty of what the family did. Really enjoyed meeting the lads and recording the show. Thanks to all involved, much appreciated.

Remarkable story. Whilst theres sadness in how it ended the impact they've had on you is wonderful, if you could do even 1% of that for another young person growing up in tough circumstances it would be a wonderful thing too. Class episode.

I'd seen Craig's YT video about his time with BC & family and how he ended up living with them. But didn't know about the shop saga. A great podcast and such a lovely story of happiness, love and emotion. Who needs the banter when true life experience is an avid listen for such a wonderful family and humble lad like craig. Thanks. I was born in Grangetown Sunderland, never grew up there though, but my Uncle a huge Sunderland fan used to talk about Cloughie when he was younger so I had a modicum of respect for him only due to that as a kid.

I'm a massive Under the Cosh fan and this has been my favourite episode. Everyone makes mistakes big and small. Rather focus on the good you do and have done than the negative which you have already paid the price for and shouldn't have to anymore. Inspiring story and one I won't forget. I wish you every happiness and look forward to reading the book. Top family and you're a top man Craig. Well done UTC for getting this one together. Loved it!

Fascinating watch, a story about emotions/feelings, great understanding of the human condition explained. Football is merely the backdrop. Craig one of the most honest accounts I've ever heard, you're a brave lad. Love the Clough's even more. What impressed me Craig is how well you articulate the impact those years had on you. Think we should all try to be the best person we can. Thanks to all involved in this 'Under the Cosh' and Craig himself. Take care mate, hope to see you at the WFCG one day.

You got a chance with the Clough family and you blew it that's all I could think Craig, because it is easy to moralise. Made me think of the mistakes I made during my life and we all make in or life and we most of us bury it away. So brave of you to front up in the end, don't know you, however proud you done the best you could to put it right. d thanks for letting us know the family Clough are. Bless you and keep straight.

Absolutely loved this Podcast episode and the show as a whole. I’ve been a Forest fan all of my life and experienced first hand the heady Brian Clough days - 1st Forest season ticket, summer 1974, great timing 'eh. Anyway, I’d read Daniel Taylor's 2019 article of the story in the Athletic but it had stopped short of the way it had all ended. Thank you Craig for the amazing insights into, not only Brian Clough, but the incredible Clough family as a whole. It's so sad to learn how you let the family down and the deep regret you obviously have to live with. Then again who hasn’t done something stupid that we later live to regret! However, if that regret has now made you a better person then Brian and his family’s efforts haven’t been wasted. Good luck with December’s William Hill Sports Book of the Year award, I hope you win it. All the best Ken Abbott
