There was also absolutely nothing racist about this portrayal of Craig David. It was a surreal parody of celebrity culture. Craig David is definitely not from the north of England and doesn't have a kestrel. However, I would say the parody of Trisha crossed the line. Anyway, he was picked on by Leigh Francis because he was a successful celebrity, like all the other celebrities mocked by shows like Dead Ringers, Star Stories, Alistair McGowan, 2DTV etc etc. He should really take it as more of a compliment. As for being bullied. This is not bullying at all. I assume if CD is so fixated on this, he hasn't really experienced real bullying.

Trisha was one of the funniest characters. For the same reasons you mentioned for Craig David. That it was just nothing like her at all and was surreal and silly. Is it because he used a Jamaican patois for the character? If he made her Scottish it would have been fine I'm guessing. Ridiculous. It was funny then, and it's even funnier now that all semblance of humour has been sucked out of everything. How come Michael Jackson didn't cross the line too? He used a stereotypical black American accent for MJ. At least be consistent.

Thing is he took it way way too seriously. No one was realistically a huge fan of Leigh Francis and a load of other celebrities also got ridiculed on the series too and didn't perceive its impact in the same way . When the show ran it's course and got decommissioned, no one really cared after it went away as viewing numbers had dropped and it had run its course and people moved on from it. He was overly concerned about it when in reality I don't actually think it had any effect on his record sales or music career because people still liked his music. What had happened is he had just made some poor choices in terms of the songs and albums he was making, and the producers he worked with and had not had the same success as he earlier music which meant he had become less popular musically, and he was wrongly attributing it in some way to bo selecta.

Well if you aren't at the front of that sort of thing then you can't really say for sure how it would affect you now. You know All of these older shows with extreme treatment of cast or extreme comedy etc sometimes led to mental health problems and suicide right? Ever wonder why magazines and news papers would depict celebs as "mad'..its because of ignorance on journalists and the news papers part. I ain't saying comedies bad. But sometimes we don't really see how the shit affects people behind closed doors.

well you can pyschoanalyse it all you want..........Leigh Francis created caracatures and tangents which weren't even remotely connected to the characters. Craigs trying way too hard to link it back to racism to make his point but its bollox.....it was surreal comedy and i am both a huge craig david fan + a leigh francis/bo selecta fan.

The skitt isn't racist BUT the fact that he chose the 2 of the most successful black British music performers and ripped them to shreds.. Keith didn't just joke he made them appear grotesque, stupid etc. Those 2 characters he went soo far with, too far with. I don't remember any other characters but Mel B and Craig because he made them loom so awful. I suspect if you did a deep dive on Keith Lemon you'd find he doesn't have any positive relationships with black people and probably is a bit prejudiced against black people (perhaps unconsciously). To anyone paying attention it was obvious Craig left the country because Keith made him into a joke. Craig was only 21 at the time and Keith a grown man, something doesn't sit right with me about it.

@@bwilliamson3887 No reason for disagreeing? Is that how you prop up an arguement? Your empty, pointless comment speaks volumes about you as a person. Leigh has been constantly on our screens for over 20 years. Bo Selecta, Bo in the USA, A showbiz tale. Celebrity juice. Keith Lemon sketch show. He kept edgy humour alive when everyone else cowered to the woke mob. He has provided endless laughter to us and has earned his place in the comedic hall of fame. And he ain’t done yet. All of Leighs characters were absurd caricatures that took one line they may have said (or not even in some cases!) and exaggerated them into a cartoonish parody that was so far removed from the original celebrity that it was completely ridiculous and that's what made Bo Selecta funny! I mean celebrity culture takes itself so seriously and puts itself on such a high pedestal, all Leigh did was humanize ya'll and to say he was being racist is just so silly as he was equal opportunist with his piss takes. This is what makes impressionists so funny, you gonna consider that bullying too? Being famous is fair game for mockery I'm afraid and you gotta have way thicker skin than that to rise above if you want to play in that arena.

He didn't get it then - he doesn't appear to get it now. It wasn't a personal attack on this utterly humourless bloke, who clearly took himself far too seriously. It was just a bit of poking fun at celebrity culture and the Patsy Kensits and Mel Bs of this world could laugh at themselves and so came out of it none the worse. But this guy...pfftt...he behaved like a baby, and many people saw that and turned on him for taking himself so seriously when the bloke was making millions and adored by his fans. HE fucked up his own career because he behaved like a knob - can't blame Leigh Francis for that Craig Daaaaaavid because he's proper bo I tell thee.😇
