I thought this was going to be about responding to a sucker punch that has already landed.

This is awesome, I am always try to avoid conflict but self defense and awareness is important to me. This could save my life someday.

We do this in Tritec (defense lab variation ) , but we make point cover back of you neck with you hand as that is one of the knock out points as well. Nice simple technique. Good video

A true sucker punch is not a thing you can block or cover up from. It hits you and expends all of it's energy into your head before you even know it's coming. That is why it is such a dangerous punch. There is no way to counteract a thing that has already occurred. At best you can minimize your exposure to the potential of being sucker punched by having a real life 24/7 obsession with situational awareness, but that is only a reduction in the potential of being sucker punched, not in any way a garuntee of safety.

You can also just avoid certain demographics that engage in the Knock Out Game.

Nice technique and good video. I would just make it a point to always keep your eye on the attacker. Looked like Craig was looking down or away and never mentioned eye contact. You can still stay protected and keep that solid platform while maintaining a visual of the attacker. Overall solid video!

Good advice, but I always thought that the sucker punch was an ambush, the attacker coming from behind, or when the victim is oblivious and is hard hit. I can be wrong in my idea of what a sucker punch is. and please don't get me wrong, I like Mr. Douglas advice, but I was expecting something different. No disrespect nor offense intended.

That's what I thought too, but I guess there isn't really something to counter a sucker punch, your best tools to avoid that i think would be to be aware of how people are acting around you and prevent being in a bad position

Yeah if you don't see it coming then you don't see it coming but this shows what you might do in an instant if you did see something coming at the very last moment. Cover the temples, jaw, and neck!

Good video Craig Fact is most people (sucker punching a-holes included) by far, are right handed. Thus it must be the left arm that you default to. I don't think Mike Tyson could knock you out or even put put you on queer-street with that defensive default. Thanks for the tip buddy.

Sucker punch by definition is when you don't see the punch or strike till you've been hit.... You basically giving tips on how to take a hit and survive.

Body language some are better at hiding it than others. I had this dude trying to do the drunk shuffle towards me and as soon as I went and lit my cigarette he threw a punch at me. Now there was before hand knowledge and I understand not all situations are the same. Some might come from out of you visual frame.

It's not a sucker punch if you see it coming and have time to react That's just the aggressor throwing the first blow The title How to survive a sucker punch is misleading This should be how to block a blow to the head
@percyfaith11
@percyfaith11 3 жыл бұрын
Action beats reaction, a sucker punch can come from the front. You may see it but you may not have the time to react.

Craig, as soon as your hands are locked around your head like that you are wide open for a prison shank. Better would be a weak hand head protection, with a strong hand counterstrike to create distance. Be safe.

A weak hand head protection and strong hand counterstrike sounds good in theory, doesn't work under pressure. Nobody can defend and strike simultaneously, it just doesn't happen

It’s simple, don’t get punched! Slipping a punch is an art and I have been slipping punches and counter punching since probably eight years old and then junior AAU, street fights, and then US Navy smoker events. Gotta know how to handle yourself.

This is not a very good video. First, guys who give advice like this should use real-world example videos. There are 1000s of videos to show what they mean by a suck punch, so they should use it. Second, if the sucker punch is good, you wont survive it. You will go down and at least be staggered. if not KOed. If you are only staggered, then you work with what you have. 1. MOVE - forward, back, to the side, rotating, ducking - as you cover guard 2. Escape or counterattack. Having said this, if you watch a lot of real fight videos, you will notice that about 50% of sucker punches or initial attacks ("initial entries" I call them) in fact are very weak or fail to KO or stagger or injure. So that is good and while nothing is guaranteed, if you MOVE, cover and escape or counter, you can improve most such bad situations, even those where there is more than one attacker - a situation that is very common indeed.
