Had my knee pop during a roll and I was in denial too. I stood up and tried to walk it off while my knee kept slipping out alignment. I got the cold sweats but acted like all was fine. It's a denial/pride thing. I was out for 6 months. Hope Vinny heals fast. At least it was his ankle and not his knee.

murray1234567891011 Exactly. Happened to me too. The pop was so loud it was heard by everyone over the music we had playing during our spars. I said the same thing Vinny did, thought it was air/gas like a knuckle crack. I felt fine and finished the roll. After class and the adrenaline wore off, the swelling and pain kicked in. Turned out it was my MCL and Meniscus!

the ligaments in either the knee or the ankle generally tear first. In this case it was the ankle which is usually what happens in a really clean heelhook. In the knee i believe its the MCL and ACL which are most likely to tear from a heelhook. Its possible for bones to break too but its much rarer since the ligaments tend to give way first.
