A favorite for sure! I get sweet vanilla, slightly overripe peppered bananas note and an oak char. I love the viscosity of this whisky, and I'm sure it has to do with the worm tub cooling. Great mouth coat, thick and weighty, with an enjoyably medium long finish. I keep coming back this -- it never grows tiresome or boring. This has become a staple. A few drops of water and it really opens up...

I'm about to buy a litre bottle in NZ which retails about $150NZD. Haven't tried it yet but looking forward to buying and trying as soon as I can pull myself away from a wonderful bottle of Aberlour Casg Annahm, thanks for the great review. The Aberlour was batch 2 so reasonably new release and well worth trying.

got this bottle cause it was on sale and didn't have a clue what it was besides it being a Speyside. What a tasty Scotch. It's hard to describe. It's sweet, spicy, but also I can taste iodine and smoke. So good. And I've got more and more drawn to it as the days go by. I will certainly be getting another bottle.

It’s a flavor explosion! On the first sip, the image that popped into my mind was a mouthful of fireworks! Not all the flavors are for the faint of heart. It’s a full-bodied whiskey. I think that Copper Dog, a NAS, Speyside only, blended malt, is probably largely made up of young Craigellachie if you’ve ever had it. Copper Dog is not quite as bold and flavorful, but it’s less than half the price of Craigellachie 13.

1st time watching one of your videos, great job. Love Craigellachie, and love the undefinable note or notes. I do think the opposite of your comment that it's not a "beginners whisky". I love to use it with newbies to help the serious ones see the possible complexity of a single malt. That is not just a drink that burns. But especially that there is varying changes even in 1 glass/dram if your patient and willing to be a true appreciator of whisky. Thanks for showing a true appreciation despite the challenge.

Great review sir. Thank you. I am about half way through my first bottle of this little beast. It definitely fights back a bit. But in a really good way. My guess is that it will keep revealing more as I go through the bottle and my palate begins to understand this savory and very interesting malt.

The nose to me is a bit higher in alcohol content than I usually prefer. But a roasted pineapple comes to mind on tasting. There's a lot less wood flavor than many others, which I like. It doesn't leave me with a medicinal finish, but like you said, it's very long. Second and subsequent tastings are less overpowering and honestly sort of warm. I don't like peated scotch, so this one in particular is becoming a favorite.

Smell is awful. Taste is quite original. Like it. Burnt rubber and some spice like white pepper. The burn rubber taste is not a turn off but rather a curiosity. No after taste at all. Don’t dilute it with water!!! It is a bottle to try one time only. 60$ in states.

The Job of the Worm Tubs is exactly the opposite. They are used to NOT get a lot of contact on copper. The Craigellachie distillery does everything to not get a lot of copper contact. First and foremost to keep those sulfury notes from the oil fired kiln from Glenesk that produces the malted barley for them. Less copper contact and lots of heat gives Craigellachie that sulfury, meat, musky flavor next to the typical Speyside exotic fruit notes. The company construction is very simple. Bacardi is owner of John Dewar's & Sons since 1998 and JDS is basically the Scotch Whisky department of Bacardi.

Craigellachie is not for beginners. I remember a grassy, herbaceous "green" note, a faint hint of smoke along with a woody spiciness from the cask. It's a pretty astringent & unique dram.
