I've been a Hogan fan for 60 years. I've applied as many of his principals as I could figure out. I'm 77 years old and a 4 handicap.

Hi Nick ...i have looked at Hogans swing for many years . And watched many swing analysis on his swing i used this film because in my opinion its the best there is of hogan .The camera is fixed no movment. And its a close up .Its also before his accident when he was younger . In my opinion its a great picture and the best there is to as he was in his prime .Even if it is like you say strectched which i dont think it is the image remains constant in size and still Wayne Defrancesco also used it

It is & was an amazing golf swing...the lowering of the body during backswing & impact without hitting fat of behind the ball never mind the flattening of the plane & then to get out the way to release Through to a well balanced finish in 1.2 secs is amazing....& worked like clockwork

Nice analysis. In talking about the lowering of his head, many people fail to mention one thing. Hogan rode his right elbow on his hip on the way down and through impact. Notice bent right elbow just before impact. At address and at top of swing, the right elbow is away from his body. On the downswing, he tucks it in and rides it down. In order to return to the ball, you have to bring your body closer to the ball (ie head lower) in order to get to the same position since tucking decreased the arm extension.

Hi Nick ..yeah ive got that one ...i have looked at it many times it is good ..it probably shows exactly how he was built ..but unfortunately theres to much camera movement ..so when i draw the lines in it becomes difficult . Its hard to find still camera shots from him and also from the correct camera positions.But the movements are still consistent with the head lowering ..hip deepining etc ..i am pretty sure everything that has been filmed from him is already out there ..anyway thanks

Hi Craig,I really struggle keeping my hips in the box.They tend to move and end up toward the target line.Is that something that can be fixed or is it hopeless?

Hi John it could be many different reasons. John i am teaching people online from all over the world. If your interested you receive the same type of video quality as the Hogan video above.... perhaps check out my website and the online area.- kind regards Craig

John Adams try standing taller during your address. The hips usually move forward to allow the head to move upward and create space for the arms to swing through. Also, you can focus on keeping your right elbow and wrist bent through impact. Not just flexed, but bent. Hope this helps

Craig, The best video I have found is the Pepe Cano "Ben Hogan Swing 1953" posted on KZbin by paseodelnardo25 3:11 mins long. The conversion of formats is tricky because the same person has another Hogan video squashed sideways making Mr Hogan look tall and thin which judging by the book is also incorrect - HTH - Nick
@NickLightbody
@NickLightbody 11 жыл бұрын
Hi Craig - Mr Hogan is in my the best possible model for learning how to strike a golf ball well - so I agree with you. However, you need to use images of Hogan which are not foreshortened if you want to talk accurately about angles - otherwise you are attributing angles to Hogan which are significantly inaccurate. Of course the drawings in the original Hogan articles and book are a good guide since I have no doubt they are spot on.

I like the video and analysis. Aside from whether he is short or tall, due to video formatting, is that the lowering of the head and the motion of the hips back, was pointed out, along with the direction of the hands post impact. IMO, this is directly responsible action of the club head resulting in the penetrating ball flight.

Hogan was and still is the best ball stiker of all time ...when you say hogan is not as amazing as i suggest ..i disagree.. i think he was even better than i suggest . Nick if you have ever played with a world class golfer in full flight it is simply mind blowing ! I dont mean sitting on the couch and watching it . This amazingly athletic swing has influened many of the best trainers and players of all time !! 9 majors with a career shortening accident could of arguably been the best ..
@NickLightbody
@NickLightbody 11 жыл бұрын
When you talk about Hogan's angles I don't think you are taking account of the shortening effect of the original film being stretched sideways - Hogan is amazing but not as amazing as you seem to suggest - it would be interesting to see your analysis on a correctly proportioned series of I images.

@@CraigHansonGolf In my opinion Tom Bertrand's book spelled out more insights than all the other articles about his swing thru his associate John Schlee - someone Mr Hogan took under his wing later in life.

Dont understand how these guys shallow the club right from the transition. I've tried everything possible. I wouldn't even care but I'm always being told coming down steep and coming out of the shot robs me of power. I don't understand how that correlates. My swing is very similar to Mickelson. I guess that's why he doesn't bomb it like the guys shallow and on plane. Lol or maybe its just that me and Phil are 45 and up
@CraigHansonGolf
@CraigHansonGolf 5 жыл бұрын
The guys that really shallow the plane in transition really early or have it already on that plane at the the top have amazing external rotation on the trail shoulder. For many people this is physically not possible. Greg Norman , Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson some of the best players of all time haven’t shallowed the club early. But later in the downswing. There are a many different patterns and ways to load the club.
@littlelarry2912
@littlelarry2912 5 жыл бұрын
@@CraigHansonGolf Makes sense now. I just thought early shallowing correlated to more power. I guess exercise and flexibility and where that comes from.
