There is a small misconception about the Mountain Commando Group in the video, this is not a Foreign Legion specific unit, this is a Commando unit attached to the 27th Mountain Brigade, so it recruits anybody that can pass the test from the Brigade. Also they are not Special Forces in the French organisation. But I think he was specifically invited by the Legion in his case. :)

They are not SF... In France, only the Commandement des Opérations Spéciales (COS) hosts SF units and few tier one units around. Tier one SF units in France are only : Ground army in COS : 1er RPIMa (Delta forces like) 13 RDP ( Intel) CCTFS ( Radio guys) 4RHFS (Rotary wings) Air army in COS : CPA10 (Delta force like) CPA 30 (drones, special stuff) Poitou (Planes) Pyrénées (Rotary wings) Navy Commandos in COS : Jaubert, Trepel, Penfentenyo, Montfort (Delta force like) Kieffer (EOD, K9, radio guys) Ponchardier ( Boats and vehicles) Hubert (Navy Seals) And outside COS : GIGN (countryside, small-town, CTHR) RAID (big cities CTHR) BRI (FBI HRT like) CPIS ( CIA SAD like) Kern ( CIA Seals) All other units are tier 2 non SF : GCM, GCP, PSIG, GAO.... Hope being clear 😜

@@yumyum7309 Don't say Delta Force for the Navy commandos since Delta isn't even a Navy unit. I saw you said that 1er RPIMa is like CAG/Delta Force but that's it. Jaubert, Trepel, Penfentenyo, Monfort are like the Navy SEALs team 1,2, 3 etc... Hubert is DEVGRU equivalent. And I am not familiar with CPIS but for me our CIA SAD equivalent is the Service Action of the DGSE. BRI like FBI HRT ? there wouldn't be an equivalent since FBI is national and BRI more local. And also BRI is very gang related

@@jo90569 Hello buddy, As said below, it's just a recap to allow foreigners to understand approximately how it works in France. Why I said all navy Commandos except Hubert are more "delta like", I said "like".... than seal like is because there is a crucial point : Nobody dives in Lorient (I mean dive with rebreather, have wet submarines, work with SSN etc etc). The navy seal course in France, the only one is delivered in saint mandrier and is received only by Commandos from Lorient Wich then become navy seals and are automatically assigned to Hubert and, Commandos from ground army (1er RPIMA, 13RDP) and are automatically assigned to DGSE Kelern (Wich is part of SA). I get what you mean with Lorient...but you can't say you are a seal...if you don't dive. Even 1er RPIMA and 13rdp have boats and divers....but they are not seals...they are palmers, IO, and present some water capacities...but not seals.... Then, for BRI, it is complicated to get a equivalent for a US/ENG, that why I said it's like FBI HRT because they mainly work for Police Judiciaire wich is the equivalent of FBI ( on strong cases with gangs and anything that's armed or require special means ). Their competence is national, you have two BRI (nationale and Prefecture de Paris) and both have a national compétence due to investigation needs....like any basic cop in France wich have a national compétence H24-7/7.

Correction, the GCM and PCG ( former DINOPS ) within 2 REG and the GCP ( former CRAP ) within the 2 REP are not Special Forces, they can however be called in to support the Special Forces. The Foreign Legion do not have and have never had Special Forces units. These units are considered the elite within the Foreign Legion You can find all Special forces units in France under COS ( Commandement des opérations spéciales ) French Special Forces Command. There are three "2nd Regiments in the Legion, 2 REG, 2 REI and 2 REP. I served 5 yrs myself in the Legion. 1 REC 1988-1993. So anything you want to know I can either tell you from my own experience or I can talk to or ask friends that are active in the Legion. Also, for Example 2 REP have 8 companies, CCL, 1-5 Cie, CA ( former CEA ) CMR and finally reserve 6 Cie. 1REC have 7 companies, but you get the point I do not have to list them.

There is a specific profile in the French army we call a "chat maigre" (a thin cat ?), bein fit is nice, but if ure too bulky, u'll have to support your own weight and won't be able to sustain the effort at the end of the day. Smaller / thinner ppl will succeed on the obstacles where bigger/stronger ones will fail after some time or too much attempts. It's also related to muscles shape, elongated muscles (filiforme ?) have more stamina. Sorry about my poor English, hope that made sense, and thank you for this review :)

French soldier here - FFL has no "special forces". They are shock forces but our SAS are paras for 1st Regiment (Bayonne). We also have special forces in navy commandos.

Slightly surprised the 8k run didnt have a heavier pack attached to it. In my unit we had to do 7k in 42 min with 22kg and these guys are tougher than I was or ever will be. We did emphasize the recon aspect and had easier strength tests than these, so i guess it's a balance. Edit: I was also in the back of a truck being called Shrek while going into a night mission back when!

I’d guess Magnus has prior military experience as he likely has done conscription in Norway, which probably showed during the obstacle course. It’s not that easy to integrate into a team like that while facing an obstacle course, especially with a language barrier.

@titanic18794 күн бұрын
He had no previous military training, other then the videos he has done on his YT channel. He was exempt from conscription, because his climbing career was kicking off at that time. Which again explains his physical and mental strength.

I think I remember him saying in one of his videos that he got out of conscription because he was able to represent Norway as an athlete, but he has made a few videos of him spending the day with other military's.

This test, which continues without rest throughout the day, is not specific to the legion. All the tests to enter a commando type unit of the French army are approximately the same, whether in the legion, in the paratroopers, in the mountain units, in the navy units, in the units infantry or gendarmerie (GIGN, GSPR, or PI2G) are identical. These are just the entry tests; after there are several weeks of other tests where you must not fail, and after (for the GIGN for example) 2 years of training, this is the reason why there is an age limit for taking these tests ...
